Gibson Firebird V 2015

The Firebird V 2015 is part of Gibson’s latest unveiling of their new 2015 guitar line, of which they highlighted some of the new features that are found on their latest production line instruments.

The most prominent change that this new model brings is the addition of a Zero Fret Adjustable nut, which allows for action and intonation stability and adjustments. No need to file the nut to adjust action or string gauge, just simply lower or raise the nut to adjust the string height, it also does not have the string cavities as found on traditional nuts, so it can be used with different string gauges.

Unfortunately, the new Firebird did not get the “G-Force” treatment, an automatic mechanical tuner option that is said to be the next generation of their Min-ETune system. But it does have new Steinberger tuners, which are known for their ability to improve resonance.

Still at the core of this new guitar is the time-tested neck-through body design with mahogany off-set shape wings. For improved stability, Gibson utilized a 9-ply multi-laminate mahogany/walnut neck that goes through the center of the body.

Another important change introduced for this year is the addition the more comfortable wider fretboard and neck. The one-piece rosewood fretboard is made thicker, buffed and sanded with oil treatment to improve playability. Like other 2015 releases, the new Firebird V comes with pearl inlays that will guide you as you play around your fretboard.

The guitar comes equipped with Mini Humbuckers that come with barrel jacks in their rims, specifically designed to better complement the guitar’s neck-through-body design. The innards of the guitar was also improved for 2015, your guitar signal will now be passing through thicker cables and feature an upgraded output jack that has better output contact.

The new guitar also comes with a tune-o-matic bridge with titanium saddles, to match the improved resonance of the Steinberger tuner. Finally, the guitar ships with a new and improved hardcase, which according to the company can provide protection up to 15 foot drop.

The Gibson Firebird V 2015 guitar is currently available for pre-order, with a ship date of around the middle of October which is interestingly still well within the year 2014! The current price tag for the guitar is $2,099. Visit Gibson for further details.
