This latest iteration of iRig is designed to work with the latest versions of the iPhone, iPad, Mac & PC, with improved sound quality to match the enhanced processing power of today’s popular smart devices.

The iRig HD 2 is the sequel to what IK Multimedia touts as their best-selling digital guitar interface. Carrying over the same digital connectivity that allows you to use your iOS device or computer to record music, or even for live performance.

The input section features a gain knob for finding just the right amount of volume without breaking up. There’s also a multicolor LED indicator that lets you know if the signal coming in is too hot. Your guitar signal is then greeted by the unit’s 24-bit/96kHz, which allows it to capture more of the sound details, while keeping unwanted noise at bay.

As mentioned, the iRig HD 2 is compatible with the latest iOS devices, including the recently unveiled iPhone 7. It has a lightning cable included in the package, which allows for direct connection with your iPhone. And with the iPhone 7’s controversial no headphones-out design, the iRig HD 2 saves the day with its dedicated output, allowing you to use your old headphones to monitor your playing without signal lag, or even for simply listening to music. IK Multimedia equipped the output section with a headphone specific preamp with its own volume control.

Another interesting feature is called “Amp Out”, which lets you connect your phone straight to a conventional guitar amplifier, without the need for extra adapters. This output is controlled by the FX/Thru switch, FX lets you can send processed signal from your device, while Thru lets you send the dry unprocessed sound. This flexibility is useful for live performance and for recording.

Another interesting and practical addition to the new iRig HD 2 is the bundled mic stand mounting bracket and Velcro strip, making it easy to setup the unit on stage or in the studio.

When you buy the new iRig HD 2, you will receive free downloads of the latest full-versions of AmpliTube, including the PC and Mac versions (valued at $149.99), and the iPhone and iPad versions (valued at $19.99 each). These apps by themselves are tremendous freebies that give you a wide range of virtual gear, from stompboxes, to amps to cabinets and even microphones. You can also get branded gear via in-app purchases including Orange, Fender, Mesa/Boogie, Ampeg, T-Rex, Seymour Duncan, Fulltone and many more.

The new iRig HD 2 is no available for pre-order for $99.99, and it is scheduled to start shipping before the month of September ends. For more information, you can head over to IK Multimedia.
