: I have a gilbert les paul from around 80/81 that ive been unable to find any information about. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

They’re very rare, they sound rubbish but if you put good pick ups in them they sound decent, Also Paul Gilbert bought one.

hi, gilberts were actually from the mid-late 70’s and were for what they were, fairly decent guitars. they played great and intonated well, a good set of tuners and you were off…

the pickups are NOT humbuckers, more like large p90 style single coils in humbucker covers. changing the pups and hardware, you had a decent guitar that played and sounded great.

most likely made by hoshino or one of it’s affiliates…it has a similar headstock to the lawsuit era copies.

great guitar, wish i still had it.

  1. My strings doesn't last for a month
    André

I’m sorry I don’t speak english. I play my guitar 4 times a week and I use Daddario strings. But my strings are bad to play in a month! What can I do to get my strings life longer? thanks André (Brazil).

Wash your hands with soap and water before playing, or even Isotrophyl Alchohol and wipe strings down after playing with clean dry cotton cloth.

If your only playing 4 times a week you should be changing your strings once a month any way. If you where playing for at least a couple hours every day then you should be changing you strings every week or two. Strings are one of those general maintence things that don’t last forever.

What you do is work each string by itself. Don’t losen or tighten the other strings tension until you have the one you are working on tuned. Once that is done, move on to the next. After the second is done, check the first again. Retune it if needed. Move on to the rest, but remembering to recheck each of the previous strings that have already been tuned. (This is tedious after first, but after a while it becomes easier) ***** Also "NEVER!" take off all of the strings at once -(like when your putting new strings on). This will make tunning the guitar alot more difficult! – But if this is the case, fallow the same guidelines mentioned above. – Keep the strings slightly loose (NOT in exact tunning)at the head/keys. This is because the tunning is done at the bridge of the guitar, instaed of the head. By keeping the strings loose at the head, you are able to pick up tension at the bridge by turning the flat circular knobs (located at the rear of the bridge). You do this in order to lower or raise the tension on the string causing the string to have a more precise tunning and be able to hold the note longer. (You wont have to stop to tune your guitar as often – But it is good to always check – Helps develop your ear).

you just have it in drop c. but put your 6th string in D and your D is your standard like E would be.
