I met Jackie Leven at a gig once and he told me about his unique guitar tunings. He likes open chords including BAGDAD. Sometimes he drops the D to an A. It varies from song to song.
: : desprately looking for tab/chords for any jackie leven songs. can anybody help?
hiya
went to jackie gig and asked him how he had it tuned and he said the strings are e ( bass string}, a flat, b, e, a flat, b. when you see him live you can pick up a lot of the stuff, but a lot of it is still unfathomable to me and sounds marvellous dont it!
I play a couple of songs of his with a mate in a slightly different tuning and it sounds ok - i use D A D Fsharp b d. Check it out! Good luck maybe see you at a jackie gig up north leeds way? All the best!
please forgive my ignorance but i got a hard time trying to use this (or any other alternative) tuning...any ideas on how to play this actually? Any website?
: : : Saw a documentary on Scottish ITV on 040700 in which Jackie talked about having his own unique guitar tuning. Can't find out what it is though.
: : hi there sunshine
: : hope is here
: : i chatted to the great man after a gig and he told me its E Aflat B E Aflat B
: : try it out its a fun tuning
: : you can put it a semitone higher or even a tone on each string otherwise they are ver y loose
: : enjoy it
: Wow Thanks ! I've been trying for years to figure it out.

Thanks for the tip.In the meantime I had signed up to the Yahoo bulletin board devoted to Jackie and posted the same question.Deborah Greenwood Jackie's singer/girlfriend/PR person (?) Checked for me and got the same formula.Interesting that he thinks of it as Ab not G#.
What about capo positions? How about 9th fret for Jim O' Windygates and 10th fret for Call Mother a Lonely Field?
I would recommend the group.
