Fender ’68 Custom Vibrolux Reverb

Fender Guitars expand their Vintage Modified Series amplifiers with the new ’68 Custom Vibrolux Reverb.

Fender Vintage Modified '68 Custom Vibrolux Reverb

This release adds to the successful line up of “vintage” re-issue amps which include the ’68 Custom Princeton Reverb, ’68 Custom Twin Reverb and ’68 Custom Deluxe Reverb amplifiers.

Fender gave their amps a new look back in 1968, and the Vibrolux Reverb was among the amps that received a face-lift. Aside from the new look, the 1968 Vibrolux Reverb featured a distinct 2×10 speaker configuration, which were said to be ideal for twang.

Now, decades after they were first introduced, this face-lifted model is once again made available for today’s players. It features the same elegant “silver-face” exterior, with silver-and-turquoise front panel and aluminum “drip edge” grille cloth trim.

The new ’68 Custom Vibrolux Reverb Amp follows the classic look, tone and performance of Fender’s late-’60s “silver-face” amps. However, as the series name implies, the original vintage design is modified to accommodate the requirements of modern day guitarists.

The most notable addition to this Vintage Modified Amp is the addition of the “Custom” channel. Fender says that this channel has a modified Bassman tone stack, and they add that this channel is designed for better compatibility with modern day guitar rigs and pedals. When switched to this channel, the gain onset is quicker and negative feedback is reduced. This modified gain gives this channel improved touch sensitivity.

Fans of the original tone of the Vibrolux Reverb will not be disappointed because they can always go back to the Vintage channel. This is where Fender meticulously replicates the classic sound of the original amp, for modern players to enjoy.

With respect to size and tone, the Vibrolux Reverb’s 35 watt tube amp and dual 10″ Celestion speakers configuration sits comfortably between the Deluxe Reverb and Twin Reverb. The preamp section features four 12AX7 and two 12AT7 Groove Tubes, while the poweramp section has two 6L6 Groove Tubes.

Both the Vintage and Custom channel offer genuine Fender tube-driven spring reverb and tube-driven tremolo effects. The amp comes with custom-made Schumacher transformers just like the original.

The new ’68 Custom Vibrolux Reverb is expected to retail for $1,199.99. Visit Fender for further details.
