The Epiphone 50th Anniversary 1961 SG Special Outfit Limited Edition
Epiphone celebrates the 50th anniversary of the 1961 SG with a faithful reproduction that should earn them some cash at the value end of the market.
The Epiphone 50th anniversary 1961 SG Special Outfit Limited Edition guitars will turn back the clock and provide guitar enthusiasts with an affordable but instantly recognizable iconic guitar.
Since Gibson already made a 50th anniversary SG standard, their sister company Epiphone had to follow suit. Just like the original Gibson SG (a.k.a Solid Guitar), this limited edition series will rival other guitars in terms of sonic variety and will continue to raise the flag of hard rock and metal.
The Epiphone Limited Edition 50th Anniversary "1961" SG Special Outfit will give guitarists that classic style and vintage sound, with modern quality standards. We might not get to play with SG greats like Tony Iommi, Pete Townsend, AC/DC's Angus Young, Eric Clapton, Paul Weller or Frank Zappa, but at least Epiphone gives us a guitar that looks like what they used.
The Epiphone Limited Edition 50th Anniversary "1961" SG Special Outfit has a Mahogany body and Mahogany neck with a SlimTaper 1960's D-Profile, like the way the original SG did. And to match vintage SGs, the Epiphone 1961 SG has a 12" radius on a 24.75" handset neck, a Rosewood fingerboard and a 1.68" nut width for staying in tune during bends. It also sports Ivory Button Wilkinson Vintage 14:1 machine heads, and a 60's style Epiphone logo on the headstock.
Every detail of the Epiphone "1961" SG Special Outfit was carefully followed. The Alnico P-90T Soapbar bridge pickup and the Alnico P-90R Soapbar neck pickup carries both double and single coil sounds in one pickup. Back in the 60's, the P90s were usually found on archtops, but surprisingly it worked well in solidbody guitars, which became a staple in Gibson SGs.
The Epiphone SG Special Outfit also carries the vintage style black controls with metal inserts, having control over the Neck Volume and Tone, and the Bridge Volume and Tone for tonal variations. It has the Wrap-Around "Lightning Bar" Combination Stopbar Adjustable bridge for hassle free tuning and intonation and a metal 3-way toggle switch, designed by Epiphone. The Epiphone "1961" SG Special Outfit is available in classic Alpine White, Ebony, Cherry, and 50s era TV Yellow. Finally, each "1961" SG Limited edition Special Outfit comes with a padded 1961 SG Model 50th Anniversary gig bag.

When you consider how much time and effort you put into getting your rig to sound just the way you want, it makes sense to ensure your guitar cables are also up to the job - after all they're an important part of the tone chain. Also remember that occasionally things will go wrong, so always carry at least one spare cable to gigs and rehearsals.
