There have been many attempts to mix electric bass strings with standard electric guitar strings in one fretboard all to gain extended bass note range. Eureka’s aim is to make hybrid instruments that require as little adjustments to playing as possible.

The brand defines their hybrid instruments as “a novel combination of bass and guitar, that play like a standard 6-string guitar.” Both models feature familiar 25.5″ scale length and regular EADGBE tuning so that fingerings, scales and chord shapes are retained – while the lower frequency range of the instrument is extended by one octave.

Buitar OMB1 is as close to the guitar as possible, the only difference is that it features a single low E bass string. Baitar OMB2 takes it a notch further by replacing the low A string with another bass guitar string. Buitar OMB1 and Baitar OMB2 represent the brand’s second design iteration, featuring upgrades and changes based on actual user feedback.

The body of the guitar is made of Alder woods carved into an offset shape. According to the brand, a thinner coat of urethane finish is used for improved wood tone & feel, as requested by users of the first version.

The neck and fretboard is made of maple, and both models have a new thinner neck profile with a nut width of 1.75″. Another requested feature that made it to this release is the redesigned reverse headstock where the strings have a straight pull over the nut. A 3D printed nut was also used.

Eureka equipped both the Buitar and Baitar with EMG 6SW passive pickups that separately output the bass sound from the guitar sound. This will let you plug into both a guitar and bass amp at the same time. The pickup configuration were optimized and a vertical adjustment mechanism were added to the pickups in this release.

Other features include custom made highly adjustable Schaller Roller bridge, Hipshot Ultralite tuners for the bass strings and Hipshot Griplock tuning machines for the guitar strings.

Both the Buitar OMB1 and Baitar OMB2 is now available for adventurous US based guitar players, it can be yours for $1,499. You can head over to Eureka Sound for further details.
