The ES-355 usually comes in cherry, sunburst or natural finish, but this time around Gibson Memphis opted for a transparent Lemon Burst finish that highlights the figured flame maple top.

The company applied the elegant look of the Les Paul, into their semi-hollow instrument. It is basically a 335 dressed in a finish that is mostly associated with solidbody guitars like the Les Paul.

Underneath the new transparent finish and premium flamed maple top, everything about the new Gibson ES-335 Lemon remains faithful to the original design from the ’50s.

It starts with a semi-acoustic body that is built using laminated maple and features a solid maple core. It features carved spruce braces and basswood rim liners for stability and to give the guitar the versatile woody tone that 335’s are known for. What gives the guitar its distinct look is the triple-A grade flame maple top which comes in Lemon Burst finish.

The neck is carved from quartersawn mahogany and is glued in to the body. The neck has a slim profile that measures .800″ at the 1st fret and .875″ at the 12th. The one-piece rosewood fingerboard is hand-selected and comes with pearl dot inlays, just like vintage ES-335s. Both the body and fingerboard comes with Cream colored bindings, adding to the overall classic appeal.

Two DiMarzio Double Cream DP103 humbuckers are used to giving the ES-335 Lemon Burst its “PAF-certified” tone. The pickups come with no covers and are wired through a Switchcraft three-way switch and the traditional four-knob controls for adjusting independent volume and tone settings for each pickup.

Other hardware include Grover Rotomatic tuning machines, Tone Pro AVR-2 bridge and stopbar tailpiece, and Amber top hat knobs. Gibson Memphis utilized the latest PLEK technology for the final set-up of each production guitar, to help ensure easy setup and playability.

Gibson concludes, “Put it all together and it’s a stunning sounding semi-acoustic, with the looks to go up against the most elegant guitars out there.”

The MSRP for the new Gibson ES-335 Lemon Burst is $3,699. You can head over to Gibson for the complete specifications.
