PRS S2 Custom 22 Semi-Hollow
In line with the 1st Anniversary of their S2 Series, PRS introduces the S2 Custom 22 Semi-hollow, a dual humbucker thinline guitar with coil split.
PRS Custom 24 Semi-Hollow
This guitar is one of the three new semi-hollow guitars that the company is adding to their S2 line up. It is a 22-fret thinline version of the first PRS guitar that was presented to the public, the Custom 24.
The distinctive feature of the S2 Custom Semi-Hollow is its chambered semi-hollow body design, and according to PRS, this gives the guitar improved resonance and warm midrange that results in a vintage-inspired tones. Although their attempt at describing their guitars can sometimes be vague, I was convinced after watching the demo videos that this guitar is worth checking out.
It starts with a chambered mahogany body that is topped by figured maple. The body is shaped into PRS's trademark double-cutaway body with angled edges that makes it look like a hybrid of two popular guitars from two rival big-name guitar brands.
The neck of the guitar is made of mahogany, and is carved to what PRS calls as a "Pattern Regular" profile. This neck shape is said to be similar to the older regular necks as found on PRS guitars that were produced in the late '80s.
Following their basic formula, the neck is topped by a 22-fret rosewood fretboard that has a nut width of 1 11/16", and features "birds" inlay as fretmarkers. The guitar has a 25" scale length.
Giving the guitar its vintage voice is a pair of PRS S2 #7 Humbuckers. These pickups are wired to a 3-way blade pickup selector, a volume knob and a push/pull tone knob that engages coil split. This gives this humbucker equipped guitar some tasty single-coil flavor tones. The company describes the sound of the instrument as having " remarkable clarity, warmth, and resonance". But instead of just taking their word for it, check out the demo video:
Other features of the guitar include PRS S2 Locking tuners and a PRS Tremolo bridge. It is currently available in seven different finishes that include McCarty Tobacco Sunburst, Grey Black, Blue Crab Smokeburst, Dark Cherry Sunburst, Black Cherry, Black and Antique White.
This is what the company says about their S2 series: "PRS Guitars announced the S2 Series on July 9, 2013. Standing for “Stevensville 2,” the S2 Series is named for a second manufacturing line created inside the PRS Stevensville, Maryland shop that blends new manufacturing techniques with practiced quality control and workmanship to create instruments at a new price point for players."
The PRS S2 Custom 22 Semi-hollow is currently available with a tag price of $1,579. Visit PRS Guitars for more information.

When you consider how much time and effort you put into getting your rig to sound just the way you want, it makes sense to ensure your guitar cables are also up to the job - after all they're an important part of the tone chain. Also remember that occasionally things will go wrong, so always carry at least one spare cable to gigs and rehearsals.
