Inside this compact and portable audio interface are three built-in mics and preamps and an audio interface that can accept guitar, bass and other electronic instruments.

The use of multiple microphones in conjunction with instrument inputs make the Sonic Port VX a truly versatile recording equipment. And as expected from Line 6, they were able to pack all of these features into a compact and portable unit.

Sonic Port VX comes with three built-in mics and preamps – a stereo matched pair and a front-facing mono mic. The company says that they chose this particular combination because it provided improved gain range and clarity, but the most obvious benefit of having multiple input options is the ability to record vocals, guitars and other electric and acoustic instruments in mono or stereo. Making it even more convenient to work your pending music production projects.

Line 6 VP of Products and Marketing Max Gutnik said, “With Sonic Port VX, we’ve expanded the Sonic Port family to allow musicians to develop ideas and record complete multi-track songs however, whenever and wherever they want. The Sonic Port family represents the next generation of professional-quality mobile recording, and Sonic Port VX is the only audio interface that puts the power of a studio into the hands of songwriters on the go.”

While you can capture both acoustic and amplified sounds via the built-in microphones, Sonic Port VX also comes with a dedicated guitar/bass input that features 120dB of dynamic range. As expected, Line 6 did not compromise electric guitar connectivity, they claim that the new Sonic Port VX allows for “best-in-class dynamics”.

Aside from plugging in your favorite instrument, this audio interface also comes with a stereo line input for recording keys, drum machines, DJ mixing and many more.

Complementing the versatile input options are the 1/4″ stereo outputs. These outputs are easy to configure and connects easily with studio monitors, allowing for zero-latency monitoring, which is very convenient for an interface that is this small.

Line 6 ensured worry-free compatibility, which means that you can record using an iOS device, Mac or PC. A Lightning cable connection enables iOS users to record along with Mobile POD, GarageBand, and other Core Audio music apps.

The press release concludes by saying, “Sonic Port VX is also the ultimate mobile guitar interface—the free Mobile POD app offers over 10,000 presets, 32 amps, 16 stompboxes and rack effects, and 16 speaker cabinets. An intuitive user interface makes it easy for guitarists to tweak and save custom tones, and even play along with their iTunes library”.

Pricing information is not yet available, but I would expect it to be within the same range as the previous generation Sonic Port, which is just under $100. Visit Line 6 for more information.
