This pedal is designed for guitarists who are not afraid of experimenting, and are looking for out-of-this-world sound. It offers clanking metallic modulation that will easily standout from conventional guitar effects that you are used to hearing.

Like the other DOD pedals, this is a modern reproduction of the original Gonkulator pedal, carrying with it the same core design and sound, while adding in modern features that improve on the original design.

The DOD Gonkulator is a 2-in-1 pedal with the main effect being the ring modulator which runs in parallel with a distortion circuit. This is an interesting combination that results in a tone that is described by the company as clanky, metallic, and raspy. As expected, this effect is not for everyone, but it can help you open up your sonic palette, making it ideal for creating unique sonic textures or for producing standout melodic lead parts. From alien-robot tones to gonk like rasping, there’s a lot of interesting tones that you can conjure with this pedal.

DigiTech Marketing Manager Tom Cram said, “Ring modulation can create inharmonic overtones, which sound just like what their name implies – edgy, discordant, and jarring. But with the adjustable Freq control, you can also get some very musical textures and overtones. The Gonkulator also features an aggressive distortion circuit to further mangle your signal. If you’re looking for sweet and subtle, that’s not the Gonk!”

When engaged, just one effected note from the Gonkulator will surely rouse the interest of your listeners. The RING knob behaves like a blend knob, letting you adjust the amount of the ring modulation signal that blends in with the clean signal. The DIST knob lets you adjust the amount of distortion while the GAIN knob also behaves like a blend knob, giving you control over how much of the distorted signal is mixed in to your output signal.

For further tone sculpting, DigiTech added a new FREQ control to the original Gonkulator design, that lets you tune the modulation from 90Hz to 1.5Hz. You can use this knob to adjust the ring modulation effect from slightly strange to wildly atonal.

Other updated features of this modern reproduction include true bypass operation, a 9-volt power supply input, a bright blue LED indicator and a cool looking metal chassis.

The new DOD Gonkulator has an MSRP of $187, for more information and other details you can visit DigiTech.
