This popular thread has been given its own page : Aria Classical Guitar Model A 554
: I just recently purchased an Aria A 554 in an estate sell. There is no serial number on the label even though there is a serial number block for it. The guitar has rosewood sides, solid spruce top, and the fingerboard also looks like rosewood but I’m not sure. I would like some history on this guitar if anyone has any information. The guitar is in excellent shape. With the exception of a couple of marks in the finish it looks like it has been in storage for many years. I will be in Narita, Japan if anyone will be able to give me history on it. Thanks, in advance.
I have an Aria A555 dated 1974. It’s a great instrument, very easy to play and with a good and sweet sound. I purchased it in 1977; I’m looking for others Aria A555 players in order to discuss about impressions, features, etc. Thanks for that.
Regards.

Trying to find out the value of late ’68- early’70s Aria model 5102t.It’s in the sunburst pattern with F-holes four tone and one volume knob. One toggel switch for the two pick-ups ,appears to be a mapel neck with rosewood frets and pearl inlay. It is in exellent shape and still plays great.

1st Grimshaw troubadour acoustic t.6E ser: 6902249

Hi Justin,I too have a Grimshaw Troubadour, the Company founder was a well known pre-war Banjo and Guitar virtuoso,’Emile Grimshaw’, who founded the Company. He passed the business on to his son who manufactured guitars Banjo’s,etc.until 1967, Head office was at 54-55, Picadilly in London. The last Grimshaw, an Electric,(made in 1967)is currently on the market for £3500.00! The Troubadour was a useful range of guitars and more often than not, made to the buyers own requirements. Mine is such a special, extra deep body (5"!),along with many other extra features. The current value of course depends mainly on condition, but a good one can realise a £1000 or more,if a special. I have had mine from new, but intend to put it on the Market soon. Like any good guitar, they improve with age, 50 to 150 years is the optimum, so the Grimshaw can be a good investment. If you require more info.let me know, pics. are available.
Cheers , Gordon.

hi,
I just read your posting of 2011. I also have a maruha 12 string t160. The wood colouring is not in good condition due to humidity in my country. I played quite alot on it some 30 years ago but then let it uncovered for years. Sound is ok. Playability is ok.

its like 40 years old. It used to be my mothers but she handed it down to me. I have played many guitars in my life and this guitar is one of the best sounding guitars i have heard. It is loud, crisp but also has a lot of tone. This guitar is every thing and more. I dont know any real specifications or information. Just wanted to share my opinion.
My daughter has just played an FB 130 today she happened across where some friends are staying. If you don’t mind my asking how much did your FB cost 40 years ago?
I have a 38 years old maruha FB 160. Sounds great…
I HAVE AN OLD MARUHA GUITAR # 222 WOULD LIKE INFORMATION ON IT
HI I have an old MARUHA guitar which I bought in Limerick Ireland in 1969. It was originally gut strung as far as I can remember. This Instrument has been through a lot nd bears the scars of many hears, even falling off my back while riding my motorbike. Now despite all that I have found it difficult to replace it with anything with a good as sound. As mentioned above there’s no model No. specified on the I.D label. Just n instrument No.652. The main noticeable feature is the thickness of the neck and body size leading it to being referred to as the beast.
It just a matter of curiosity but I would appreciate any information anyone would have on this instrument. also the text style is of a different character on the label .
Regard’s Jim and keep safe.
Own a #305 model. Internet has nothing. Looks to be from the 60’s.
I have an old F100M myself, and love it. You can find that brand of guitar mentioned on Japanese sites and blogs, just have google chrome translate the Japanese for you, and…be prepared for a very strange translation. Nonetheless, Japanese musicians who own one tend to love them, and have info that can be picked out from the comments.

Re: the model t400
Hi, the T400 Tamura’s were a one off shipment of classicals that were brought in to Australia in the early 80’s by ‘Australis the music people’ (still in business) – handcrafted in Japan by Hiroshi Tamura. Does your guitar still have the label on the inside & do you still have it since your post is quite old?
Jill
Just picked up an old guitar at an op shop which is one of the batch of Tamura’s sold by Australis the Music people. The label states Quality Hand Crafted TAMURA frpm Australis the music people. The Model No. is T400 and it has a ‘Price’ but no figure underneath. Can you provide any information as to the quality of this instrument and its worth pease?
Thank you in advance!
I have recently bought A Tamura T400.. Can you please provide me any relevant information other than what you have already provided. (Mine still has the label intact)
Thanks in advance!
does any one khnow the value of this model in great shape
This popular thread has been given its own page : Re: aria model 9032
I wouldn’t sell my 9032 for twice that. Right now I have 5 acoustics. A ’68 Guild D-40, 81 cat’s eyes CE-250, Aria 9410, ’72 Yamaha FG-160, and the 9032 I payed something like $75 in a pawnshop in Toronto in ’71.Of all the guitars I have bought and sold over the years it, and a 72 Strat I bought new are the only ones I have kept for more than a couple of years. If I had to spend the rest of my life sentenced to one guitar I think it would be my choice. Huge sound for a little guitar. The mid to high notes have more roundness than possibly any guitar I have played.
I bought one r4ecently for 169 US dollars and think I got a pretty good deal. For the sweet sound they produce I don’t think 250-300 would be an unreasonable price
How can i find out how much my aria guitar model 9032 is worth???
This popular thread has been given its own page : Matsuoka classical
I also have a classical Matsuoka guitar. I have found conflicting information on them. I found information about a Matsuoka production line guitar, a good quality but not unique. I believe that Ryoji Matsuoka hand-made guitars in the 70’s, then allowed his name to be used for a line of Aria guitars or something of the sort. If you have a handmade one, I believe they can be worth a good deal of money. I think guitars are still being made with the Ryoji Matsuoka name, sold in Japan. I think they are fairly good quality. There just isn’t a lot of information out there about them, but all the comments by owners I found about them seems to reflect a consensus — they are much loved by their owners.
The label in mine says it’s a Model 100 (but not M100), serial number 7419. It’s stamped with Matsoka’s signature, but I’m not sure what the serial number or model number means. My dad bought it in the late 70’s or early 80’s for $600. It’s in mint condition and the sound is absolutely enchanting — warm, full, loud like a Spanish guitar. I’d love to know more about my guitar, too.

i have a ryoji Matsioka Luthier classical guitar and im not sure about the model. the brand label has no model in it. how can i get the correct details of my guitar. if needed i can upload a pictures of it.
Like a fool, I took the label out of my RM shortly after purchasing it in San Francisco in 1975 from a music store a door or two down from the Bud’s Ice Cream shop near USF. Anyway, over 30 years later, and one bridge re-attachment, my RM classical sounds as good as many Ramirez models. It’s full, warm, outstanding projection, etc. It looks almost exactly like a Ramirez, too, only the quality isn’t the same, obviously. Still, for the price and the way it has matured and endured, my RM is some of the wisest money I’ve ever spent. Had it wired recently with a Fishman setup, and it didn’t hurt the sound one bit. I love my RM! Just wish I would’ve left the label in it, is all.

how much is the orignal price of ryoji matsuoka m40
Hello- I bought my Ryoji Matsuoka #40 new in 1974 for $350 U.S. dollars (USD). Saw a used 1970’s #40 in Kyoto four years ago that was priced at $240 USD. Last year, I bought a used #30 for $175 USD. This year (2007) I saw a used #20 priced at $250.
This one has a gorgeous matched rosewood back with beautiful eyes and colour in the grain, and matched sides as well in rosewood. The neck is a 5? part mahogany lamination. Model number is 2861 handwritten, but no serial number.
Nothing so far on the net. I bought it used in the 90s with no history. It’s mint with a gorgeous case.
Anyone have any information on this guitar? Thanks
Joseph
hello- bought a used one for $175 USD last year. condition is excellent, but it’s not one of matsuoka’s better models. prices in japan are still around $240 – 350 USD for used models in good condition.
In response to Christine’s message:
I owned a Matsuoka #40 classical, purchased new in 1976 for $350. Learned about them via a friend, whose father bought a new Matsuoka #60 in Okinawa for $300 USD at a military comissary around the same period. At that time, the Japanese Yen was about 350 to the dollar.
As far as I know, Matsuoka’s were not handmade, but a good factory produced instrument. They were Japan’s challenge to the Spanish low- medium priced guitar market and were successful.
Have never heard of Matsuoka guitars being afiliated with Aria guitars, but per writer Tony Bacon, Shiro Arai (Aria) brought famous Spanish classical guitars to Japan and copied their contruction, etc. I own two old Aria classicals which look like copies of Fleta and Ramirez classicals. I paid less than $250 for each one in the last two years (2005 – 2006).
Also saw new Matsuoka guitars while I was in Kyoto two years ago. Model #80 was selling for about $800 – $1,000 USD, with higher numbered models increasing in price. They were well made, but unexceptional in sound. They had average sounding basses and tinny trebles.
As to whether used Matsuoka’s are worth quite a bit, that’s up to you. In Kyoto, I saw used Matsuoka #40 and #60 guitars (good condition)for $200 – $300 USD. This year, I communicated with a store in Tokyo that was selling a more recent (used) model Matsuoka model #50 for $260.
I think Matsuoka guitars are excellent period pieces. But collector’s items are only worth what a buyer is willing to pay.
Hello again- I purchased a 1979 Matsuoka #30 this year (2006) for $175.
It matched another #30 advertised on e-bay, along w/ the same rosette pattern. Boomy, full basses but the trebles are thin. Right hand tasto/ponticello sounds are o.k., but unremarkable. Was in New Zealand two weeks ago and saw old Japanese classical guitars for ridiculous prices. The vendors were silent when I told them the price I paid for the Matsuoka #30.
I have owned a Matsuoka classical guitar since the about 1973-75. There is very little information on the lable.
It says " RYOJO MATUSOKA – Luthier.
There is nothing where it says Model No. but for the serial number it says 60 – Thats all it says.
It appears to be solid rosewood back and sides and the top is solid spruce, perhaps cedar.
I paid about $300.00 dollars for it in the early seventies.
It has a huge amount of projection.
Does anyone have any idea how much it could be worth.

Read this if you are considering buying a Classical Guitar
Everybody is right, Matsuokas handmade are very good. The cream of the crop is serial #’s 20 thru 227. These were hand built by the master himself. he is no longer making them. One of these guitars should be worth around $2000 in mint condition. This serial numbers were made of solid top spruce very straight lines and rosewood sides and back.. very good sounding instruments (The hand made by Ryoji) Hang on to them. Regards
I went into my local guitar store in search of a new classical guitar yesterday, and came across a used Matsuoka. I’m not sure of the model no. or anything at all because I didn’t think of looking at the label inside the guitar then, but it was $1645.(The guy in the store told me it’s been used for one year) It has amazing clarity and great projection. However, after I came home I looked around the Internet and found that most Matsuoka guitars don’t even go over $300. Is it possible that the one I’ve found is a handmade?

: There is nothing where it says Model No. but for the serial number mine says 50… nothing else.
: My pals at Coyles Music in Richboro told me that the sides and back are laminated rosewood. The top is obviously solid spruce.

Previously owned a 1970’s Matusoka #40 and kept it for thirty years. Learned a lot of classical repetoire with it. Was a good instrument and I played the hell out of it. The cedar top peaked at about 12 years, and the frets in the first to fifth position became quite worn. The sound got softer, mellower thereafter. If I had kept it, a re-fret and neck job would have been in order. Recently saw an old Matsuoka #60 in Japan. Beautiful back/sides and cedar top. The guitar looked like it had been stored in its case. However, the sound was lousy, and the guitar way overpriced. I think old Matsuoka guitars were definitely well-made. But I think it’s a valid arguement that some of the best Japanese classicals were made by Masaru Kohno. I have played a 1969 Kohno and some of Masaki Sakurai’s intruments which are superb. It’s interesting how we value certain instruments huh?
I have a Matsuoka, in really good condition with lovely tone, its M40 model and i can see a D stamped into it underneath the certificate… it has been kept in a case, hardly played so i think its time I passed it on, any idea of value? or what the M stands for?? any info appreciated.
Have not seen not seen any Matsuoka guitars with single letters stamped under the label. In some Spanish concert classical guitars, builders have carved their initials such as "AM" next to the label. I have seen one Matsuoka where the label was missing; there was a sticker with M30 typed on it. As far as I know, "M" stands for the word "model". The "value" of your Matsuoka is subjective. I’ve seen a 1970’s Matsuoka #40 in good condition priced for under $350 in Kyoto, Japan. It had a Ramirez-style headstock, spruce top, veneer rosewood back/sides, and two rienforcing strips of stained rosewood inlaid in the back of the neck. The bridge saddle had inlay, the fret board was stained rosewood, and there was thin purfling inlaid in the top/bottom bouts. Sound favored the bass strings, and trebles were somewhat tinny. I would have offered $250 max.
In Japan you can still find a used, decent Matsuoka #40 for under $300, because they don’t value "something owned and touched by someone else". Some of the recent Yamaha CG series classical guitars are very nice, and sound superior to the Matsuoka’s of the 1970’s and 80’s. You can get these Yamaha’s new for under $450. I own both brands of guitars and have compared their sounds.

But I think it’s a valid arguement that some of the best Japanese classicals were made by Masaru Kohno. I have played a 1969 Kohno and some of Masaki Sakurai’s intruments which are superb. It’s interesting how we value certain instruments huh?
Follow up: the old Matsuoka #60 I mentioned was from 1970. My #40 as mentioned had bigger bass tones and brighter treble tones before it peaked. Interestingly, the #60 was supposed to be a better, more expensive model, but the one I played was not exceptional. While in Japan, I bought a new Matsuoka Aranuez 710 "Damman" copy. I also tried a new Matsuoka #100 but it was no match for the 710. Overall, the 710 has much more overtones and complexity compared to the old Matsuoka sound. I think luthier Robert Brune’s comments that old Matsuoka’s have no collector’s value is plausible. Enough for the soapbox today.
More soapbox:
What’s the big fuss over old Matsuoka guitars? Have been looking at prices on the web, as well as my latest trip to Japan.
Used Matsuoka guitar prices in Japan ranged between $200- $400. Even an old #50 went for under $400. C’mon guys, this is a decent guitar, but a Bouchet or Fleta it’s not. Looks like people trying to make something out of nothing.
: Previously owned a 1970’s Matusoka #40 and kept it for thirty years. : I have had my M40 since 1979 and i paid NZD310 for it.
I have no intetion of repalcing it – it is still in mint condition and had needed no re-fretting so far. Classical players that have tried have commented on it’s mellow tone.

I have a matsuoka classical guitar that has on its label Luthier Roji Matusoka and the model number says M65P and followed by a set of numbers 00100960 and label says made in japan. I can’t seem to find anything about this Guitar. It does have electronics- PR 500 na DUKER. I got this from a friend selling it supposed to be brand new from Japan in the lat 1990’s. Can someone give me an idea on the history of they guitar? I mean its type of wood and it’s cost if at all possible. It sounds great.
I’ve bought my Ryoji Matsuoka M40 classical guitar as a second hand instrument in 1985, in Paris (France). It was – or it looked – brand new, but maybe it wasn’t. I still have it today and I really like its beautiful sound. And it’s so easy to play ! How much did I pay for it ? As far as I can remember, I got it for 1 500 or 2000 FF (french francs at that time, 17 years before €), which means about 350 US$ or 400 US$. There’s no serial number on the stamp, but the signature of Matsuoka appears clearly.
I bought my #40 in 1973, the same year it was manufactured, in a music shop in Tokyo. It was hard to hear the guitar because the store was playing loud background music. I bought the guitar anyway, and have never regretted it. It is well made. The interior is smooth and all the construction lines are clean. My only complaint is about the laminated top which has cracked over the years and which scratches somewhat easily. Otherwise, I love my guitar. It has great sound.
I found my Matsuoka used, about 15 years ago, for $175. Very nice classical guitar – good tone, great action, sounds very nice indeed with LaBella 413 Studio Professional strings. The guitar has never had any problems – well built, anmd the matte finish avoids the micro-scratching the mars so many instruments. The label shows the model as a M 12, no serial number. The signature stamp is there…
Guitar One:
Patrick Hopmans
European Spruce (French Polished shellac) and Indian Rosewood
650mm scale
neck 52mm wide
Patrick is from the Netherlands, but lives near to Barcelona. This
guitar is very light and responsive with an even response across all
registers. It has what I would describe as an antique sound.
Guitar Two:
Bernd Martin
European Spruce (French Polished shellac) and Indian Rosewood
650mm scale
neck 52mm wide
Bernd needs no introduction since his guitars are well known. The
guitar I have is his model normal, light, responsive with deep
resounding bases and lyrical trebles.

I have a Taka w-800 purchased 3/9/1974 from Village Music in Los Gatos, CA. It has great sound and is extremely well made. About 8 years ago I added a pre-amp and under saddle pickup and I use it all the time.

: I bought a TAKA W-800 steel string dreadnought guitar in Berkeley, California in 1974 for about $120.00. I bought it from a private seller, and I do not know how or where he got it. I have never seen another TAKA guitar. I love my TAKA, it is still my only acoustic. It has always had great tone and is very rugged. Needs new frets now. It has a mahogany neck, rosewood sides and back, and a solid spruce top. I can email photos if you want. Just let me know. I’d like to know more about who made these guitars.

Hello!
I also have a Taka guitar. Mine’s a model F80. It’s a fine little orchestra model, really a small body, but a nice sound and good action. It appears to have Rosewood back and sides, mahogany neck and spruce top with mother-of-pearl inlaid trim. I bought mine in 1975 at McCabe’s Guitar Shop on Pico Blvd in Santa Monica, CA. The guitar has held up very well for 30+ years. I’ve never had any work done to it, and have gotten years of pleasurable finger-picking fun out of it. The fretboard has some dimples in it where my fingertips have landed thousands of times, but it is still a nice instrument. Actually, I am considering buying a newer, nicer OM guitar now. Hope that helps!

I bought a used Taka "TATG 300" nylon/classical from a dissolute neighbor for $25, and every guitarist I know who’s ever picked it up has been awed by the sound quality. I have some other instruments, but the Taka is my favorite by far. I’ve never seen another Taka either though.
Am I correct assuming that the Taka you own is outstanding in sound quality as well? I haven’t been able to find anything close to it in stores.
Have you learned anything about this maker? I would be interested in buying another Taka classical for my wife, but can’t find any info.
Best regards,
Eric
I have a TAKA w-800 as well. I just picked it up at a garage sale in perfect condition for 2 packs of cigarettes from some guy that said he would never learn to play the guitar. He mentioned it had been sitting in his attic since he moved into his house and it was there when he moved in. It plays awesome but im more into electric guitar and would like to find out what the market is for these so i could get rid of it.. Any information on the value of these guitars please let me know via email at [email protected]

Just purchased a Taka 800s at a pawn shop in Westminster, CA. I had never heard of it before but the quality of the build really stood out to me and for $160 something told me I should buy it. Started doing some research and this seems to be one of the only threads regarding this make. It needs a new nut and is missing a bridge pin but those are very easy fixes. No cracks or damage that I can see and the frets are in fantastic condition. For those interested I’ll post more after I do a set up and get a closer look at it
I lost my Taka 800s in the fire in Paradise,Ca on 11/8/2018. So heartbroken. I had owned it since 1991 and it was a beautiful little guitar, fit me perfectly and rang like a little bell when played. Sweetest sound I had ever found. If anyone ever has one to sell, please contact me.

Hi I do have a Taka guitar I might sell
I had my Taka 800 S stolen 32 years ago. A few weeks before Christmas i was doing my daily search and went on ebay and my heart almost stopped. Before my very eyes was my guitar. Tears began to run down my cheecks. I knew i had my very own miracle. I emailed the owner and asked where he had obtained it and asked for more pics. He had bought it at a pawn shop and sent me new pics. I was sure it was mine because it had the nick i had put in it 32 years before. I put a bid in and watched all week. Only 1 other bid came in and i again countered it. No other bids came in. The final night i sat with my phone in my hands and didnt take my eyes off the screen. The final seconds and i knew i was getting my baby back. The last 3 seconds came and a bid came in, i tried to counter bid but there was no time. I couldnt believe my eyes. I sat and couldnt hardly breath. It was worse than the first time it was taken. I felt like it had been stolen from me all over again. I cried for hours. Im pleading with anyone who might come across another taka 800 S to please let me know. Mine had the abalone inlayed down the fret board. Please help me get my baby back.
I bought mine from Jack at Music Factory, SLO in 1977. Have kept it as a treasure ever since. I feel your pain! Had all my other gear stolen from our church on Xmas Eve…all but this one guitar. I’d be happy to talk more… If you’re still in the SLO area we could meet up.
Dave in LO
I’m not in SKI, I live in Oklahoma now. Are you in Los Osos? I really miss that area. I’m hoping with any luck I will someday come across my guitar again, or by some chance the person who bought it might see my post and let me buy it back from them. Thanks for caring and I’m really sorry about your loss. People dont realize what they take when they take your music from you. I havent felt whole since it happened.
I bought a Taka in 1979 in San Luis Obispo Ca. I loved this guitar. I have played many great guitars but this was the best I’ve ever played. Unfortunately I had it stolen from me by someone I thought was a friend in 1985. I have searched many times for it or another with no luck. I felt that me and my Taka were meant to be together and hoped someday I would find it but it’s been 30 yrs with no luck. Mine had a arched top and abaloney and mother of pearl in layer on neck that was rosewood. I miss it terribly even after all these years.
I own a Taka Guitar model W800-S steel string Dreadnought. I think thats what the S stands for. I bought it from a friend in 1975 in Bogota Colombia. The guy purchased this guitar in England. The interesting thing is that a very well know luthier saw this guitar and told me that the wood on the back side and side panels in called PaloSanto from Madagascar. Is a very hard wood because this instrument has been used and abused over the years and still stands still. The sound is deep and beautiful, a little hard to play. This guitar has been all around the world wherever I’ve been. Keeps in tune all the time. Because of its age and besides giving it a good tratment, the only consideration I have with this instrument is that a tune up one note lower, instead of E I tune up in D and use a capo to release the tension a little bit. I hace owned and play many guitars and by far this is one of the best. A little treasure.
Just got this guitar from Ebay for 399. Man, it’s a nice guitar! Indian rosewood solid back and sides, solid SP top, and the design is a dead-ringer for a Martin D28, down to the endpiece inlay. And the sound is magic…
I have had Martins, currently own a vintage Guild (ash back and sides) and this guitar is right up there with them! I have literally scoured the internet and this page has the most info. I can find, which as you who are asking about TAKA know, is pretty much nothing!
I can’t even find a serial number on this, but when I install the Baggs lyric today I will check inside with a mirror…but I say kudos to whoever made this guitar…Martin has nothing on them!
So far the only info I have on Taka guitars is they where or made in japan and sold in Cal in the 70’s. I own a Taka ta 501 with worn frets, amazingly I purchased this guitar back in the 90’s and have just started to play. I bought the guitar on a rainy day and if you live in California, you know it doesn’t rain much, and if its not rain,n ! I’m not play’n! Guess what the last couple of days its been raining, wow! I like this guitar, it even has peace sign, amazing!
I just acquired a Taka guitar also…and looking for any info on it. It is model number TA501.

I have an Asturias C140S that I purchased used about 20 years ago. I was wondering if anyone can provide me with any information on this model and its approximate age. Guitar has a cedar top, mahogany neck, beautiful rosewood sides and back. The label say: Asturias and below is written "Handcrafted by M. Matano." And below that the model number.
Thank you,

Hmmm… I have a 1978 manufactured WASHBURN Hauser copy, model number C-140S. It’s a fabulous classical, and I’ve played it for all these years….great for those Villa Lobos etudes, etc. Definitely a "concert instrument"!
The Japanese corporation that purchased the Washburn name in the late 1970s supposedly used one of the better Japanese plants when they started their acoustic line, and they put out a Ramires, a Hauser, and a Fleta model. Great "top of the line" type stuff. I’ve been looking for a used Fleta or Ramires copy of the same vintage and quality.
So my guess is your Asturias might be the same model as my Washburn, just sold under a different name? Rosewood sides and back and solid spruce top, for sure.

I bought an Asturias C140S second-hand from The Spanish Guitar Centre in Bristol England about 1967. I think I paid about £250 or less. It gave me great pleasure over some years until business and family seemed to prevent me from playing. However I still have the instrument and am resuming playing – almost as a beginner. Are there others who share such a lovely instrument ? Has anyone any idea for how much a C140S ought to be insured ? A contact will be returned.

I have an Asturias guitar which I bought second hand in the mid 70’s. I dont have a clue what the wood is by it was made by Masaru Matano and it shows Model 3452. I was told when I bought it that is was an AST80 – but it is a lovely instrument – unfortunately much neglected of late.

:Hi Sott,
my name is Giovanni Nibale from Italy (Milan). I read now your past E-Mail regarding H. Tamura classic guitar. I have naother one like you; same P-50 model and same label description. This guitar is dated 1972.
When I was young I was a classic guitar student and my father decided to purchase this graet instrument for me. He spent in 1977 roughly 500 USD.
So, now I think that he spent this money in a very good way!!
You are right; it’s a wonderful instrument; very "soft and light" to play and very sweet in terms of sounds.
Unfortunately, I don’t have any news about this japanese luthier. His instruments were imported in Italy by Mr. Battistini from Lecco (his store is still open). I asked to him news about Tamura production but he told me that he imported these guitars together Kohno instruments during the same time. He known Kohno and Sakurai during their visit in Battistini’s store but he never met or seen Mr. Tamura.
That’s all…for the moment!
Pls. Scott if you’ll receive more news about Tamura luthier, pls. let me know. Thanks.
Take care.

Hi,
The Tamura Bros. are some of the first and finest guitar builders in japan. i have a tamura P30 made in 1968 and signed by H. Tamura, my dad paid about 600.00 back in 1971 and now i have found that the guitar is worth about 3,000.00. it is a beautiful instrument and is made of rosewood. These 2 brothers were possibly the first to build classical guitars and took much pride in the craftmanship of the guitars they build. They are no longer with us, but their instruments will be with us a very long time.
i hope this helps!!
bye!!!

I bought a Hiroshi guitar in 1969. The label inside says: Hiroshi Guitar, Japan. It has a space for a model number but no number. It says it is handcrafted from solid cypress construction.
I thought I bought the guitar in 1968 but I don’t remember clearly. It could have been purchased in 1969 or 1970.
The guitar says nothing about Hiroshi Tamura and the label is not written in Spanish.
Any information that you could give me would be appreciated.

I had a Japanese made orpheus electric hollowbody 335 copy in the 60’s. It was inexpensive but an awesome guitar that I wich I had never parted with. If your guitar is of the same quality you got a good guitar. I would assume it is of the 60’s vintage.
how much does that guitar sell for now days?

I bought a 12 String Orpheus in 1967 in Hawaii. I still have it today. I have never been able to find where it was made. It has a "Green Colored Label" inside box, but no model number. I have always liked the sound and find it easy on the fingers when playing.

This popular thread has been given its own page : aria AC-5 made in japan , value ?
its not woth an immense amount, i have found one in a pawn shop in coffs Harbor for $130 it looks like a solid top to me… but i have heard it said it could be laminated. production of the AC 5 stopped in 1980 so its got a bit of age to it. they aren’t incredibly expensive, but the sound and action of the one i found was amazing. and its serial No was only 700. theres a little bit of info anyway
I just bought the same guitar from my neighbour. i was wondering if you could email me any details you may have collected about this guitar. IE. do you know whether it is solid top etc.
: i bought this guitar in a public auction, i payed 750$ for it. I would like the know the real value of this guitar. I can’t find anything on the net.

I’ve recently bought a Aria AC-5 and a Jasmine S31 for €25 the Aria is from the seventies and the Jasmine is made by Takamine in the nineties.
I think I’ve made a great deal.
The Aria is worth about €175
Can anyone tell me anything about this guitar and how much it might be worth
i did some research about aria guitars, if your guitar was made in japan it probably has much value. between1000-2500 $
i have also a aria guitar from japan and i sold it for 1800$

I am only 14 and have aquired the very same guitar from my grandfather who died before i was born so i will never part with it but it is a brilliant guitar and i love the firery finish on it and the rustic tone it has. just out of interest how much is it worth
: I have a kiso too 9507 how do you know if its a solid top or not?cheers tony
I had one from 1973 until about 5 minutes ago when my 12 year old son trod on it and snapped the neck. It was still sounding great after 33 years – he has said he is sorry !!
I feel your pain, one of my son’s friends stepped on mine! I am still trying to find someone to repair it! I had mine for 36 years without breaking it. It was devastating for me!
I also have a Suzuki 9507, Gibson Hummingbird look-a-like, exactly as you guys have described. I bought it in 1978 for around 80 UK pounds. It’s always been, and still is, one of my most prized possessions and plays like a dream- it compares with £500 plus guitars. I wouldn’t part with it at any price.
I too have a Suzuki 9507, Gibson Hummingbird look-a-like. Beautiful guitar with a lovely sound. Only problem is the front face is bowed in due to one of the ‘struts’ inside is broken. I was wondering if it could be economically repaired. I would love to get it straight again so I could hear the lovely tones without the fret buzz.
: I have a Kiso Suzuki Acustic guitar model 9507. It is a fire colour with mother of pearl fret board. It looks pretty old and i would like to know how much its worth.

Just seen one of these online for sale, very good condition. £149. Mint would be worth a bit more I’m guesing.
I’ve just purchased a Suzuki 9507 in mint condition, absolutely love it!!!! Think the build quality and sound are superb, a nice bright sparkling tone, definitely the best copy of a Hummingbird I’ve found, but forget the fact it’s a copy, its a great guitar in its own right. I may see if I can track down the Suzuki dove next!!! Cheers all…..

hi, my dad told me about your guitars, I just wanted to say hi, and that i am Alfred’s daughter. Niece of Aida, and grand-daughter of Maria Rosita Figuera and Alfredo Yacopi. Hope to hear from you soon…
Sorry to say but you are not related to Jose Yacopi, his original last name "Giaccopi" was bastardized when he arrived in Argentina with my aunt Pilar around 1949 from Barcelona, Spain.

Been quite some time since you posted but here it is if you check by again:very nice Japan made Aria from 1982. Check out "www.therathole.org/guitars/models/a-ap2_acou/a-ap2_acou.html" (and leave out the quotation marks) for info if you haven’t already, then go to this websites homepage for a mountain of information on aria guitars.

Hi
Looking at the other messages on this site, there seems to be a lot of mistery over old Aria classicals!. The Aria archives don’t seem to go back far enough to list those from the early 70’s and 60’s. Ours is a classical mosel A558, serial 000342. It has Rosewood back & sides, and seems to be quite a quality instrument, although this one has seen a lot of life! Has anyone any information on it?
Mant thanks

This popular thread has been given its own page : Aria Maestro AA060
Chris,
I own a similar instrument, aria maestro AA080, which was purchased around 1979. It was bought through an albertan luthier – lotsberg (sic) – who performed a fabulous intonation setup on it (bridge and nut position adjustment.)
The top is spruce and the overall tone is extremely balanced with clear mids and highs – really beautiful sounding imho. Volume is a bit low when contrasted with some cedar top instruments but I find that savarez red card strings work well to compensate for this.
I really enjoy playing this instrument. It took about eight months of playing for it to develop its voice but it has held that tone for roughly 25 years. This latter is a bit surprising since classical guitars lose their high end over time. I suspect that it’s the spruce top in the aria maestro versus the traditional cedar top that’s behind that performance.
With respect to internet-based research I have only been able to find references to the MR/MF (rodriguez/flavia) 60/80/100 versions of the aria maestro instruments. These are briefly cited on ariausa’s archive page. There are also references in various usenet group threads.
I have an Aria Maestro with no serial number, but model number
AA060. Does anybody have any info on this guitar? It wasn’t
listed on the Aria website.
Regards,
Chris
I also have an AA060. Purchased years backfrom a student in Alberta. Set up was then done by Lotsberg as well. Said I got “a bright one”. I think it is 1978 vintage, by looking at serial number.
Great to see another aa080. Luv the guitar, was purchased 1980 in Alberta as well

I have played on a Tamura P80 since the early 1970’s. It is a beautiful instrument. I all those years, I’ve played other guitars that I like as much, but very few that I like better.
Are you thinking of selling yours? I have no idea what they are worth today. I hope it finds a good home.
I also play these guitars- having two of them a 69 P-50 and a 83 P-100. They play and sound very similarly. I may be selling the 69 as I rarely take it out of the case to play these days.

I have 2 old Arias, and the labels inside read: (1) Model No. AC8, no serial number, Made in Japan. It has a metal bar on back at top of neck that says Veneman Music Co. I also have a smaller (3/4) Aria Model No. A562, Serial Number 00315 construccion artistica de Guitarra Japan I was told these were from the 1970’s – any idea on worth? They’re in good condition. Thanks.
I purchased my steel stringed acoustic Aria guitar and case new in the early 70s. The model number shows 810 with a figure preceeding the 810 but I can’t tell what it is other than it looks like a zero with the top right side disconnected and curved in. The serial number is 3608. I can’t find any information about this guita on-line. All the hinges have broken and I would like to purchase replacement hinges or another case.
I found this at a yard sale for Ten Dollars and want to know more about it. serial# 10340 modle 780..Can anybody help.
Holy Moly! Ten bucks? I have been playing an Aria 780 for 12 yrs. and am most pleased with it. It is a great sounding guitar in tone and sustain. Craftmanship is top notch. I have never found any good info on the web. I e-mailed their sire once but never heard back. Your question peaked my interest again so I will call them tomorrow. Will let you know what I find out.
