My father bought me one in 1976, it was my first guitar, it cost £45 then. The sound was and still is awesome particularly with new set of strings. I saw one in a music catelogue in 1984, it was priced at £120, which surprised me, but when you hear it you can understand. I’ve still got it and play it and it still sounds awesome, I can understand now why the guy who taught me then (who played in a band) regularly asked to borrow it for gigs. I’m pleased I’ve turned down numerous offers for it over the years.

I bought a hummingbird acoustic by Columbus in th mid 1970’s, I still have it and it plays as it did new. I think it cost around 90 UK pounds at the time but cannot really remember. I knew nothing about the make then and little more now. I can say it is a player guitar and wellworth having.

My Dad bought me one for my 13th birthday back in 1973. Unfortunately the headstock broke last year and i need a repair but it is still worth repairing in my view

If it’s any use now I bought one of these in 1978. It was priced at £65.00 but I got it for £37 owing to a cosmetic flaw. It lasted for years until the neck broke in an accident.

I bought one of these new in November 1970 for some £31. 00 pounds sterling in Guildford, Surrey, England (from Andertons Music which is still in business).
Like everyone else’s comments this is a brilliant guitar and still with me 40 years on. Well made, very versatile sound and can be played in many different styles. I have had no trouble with the guitar over all these years apart from replacing the top nut on the fretboard.
I believe from memory, that Columbus were just entering the market and were making a good effort to Copy the Gibson without regard to cost or mass production at that time.

i’ve got an old bat-wing sg that has an oval inlay that transites the trapese tremlo. there is also some weird inlay along the upper horn. it came with a old super distortion in the lead that i gave away to one of my friends. the top, including the inlays, was painted black. any info?

I’ve got two Fenix guitars. A Strat in vanilla yellow and a Tele in the same color.
At the moment the Tele is at a luthier for an upgrade. I’ve chosen for a Callahan bridge (with the modification string through body which the guitar didn’have) and new pick-ups from the brand Rio Grande. The luthier will call me when he starts the work to inform me whether the guitar (mainly the used wood) is worth of it. Altough most comments on the net praise the quality of this guitars I need to be sure before I invest 300€ into the axe. My first impression is rather good althoug

The Strat has got a fixed tremeloe (I bought it that way)and the pick-ups are from a Japanese Fender.
I think (hope) that Fenix Strats and Tele’s are well made but that you need to upgrade the pick-ups and the bride (or the whammy bar).
I’ll tell you what my luthier think about it.
Have you got any information about the serienumbers?

My Fenix telecaster is made of baswood. My luthier replaced the pick-ups by rio-grandes which he modified personally. He also put another heavier bridge (string-thru-body-one).
This is the BEST telecaster I’ve ever played on.
(and I also have got an american and a japanese fender)

My other Fenix is a stratocaster with a large headstock. The quality of this guitar is amazing. If you see a Fenix and you have the opportunity to buy it…. Don’t hesitate, just do it!
I bought a Fenix Stratocaster this weekend. The bloke had it stored under his bed for several years. I gave him £30 for it thinking it would be scrap, but having got it home and given it a good clean it looked really good, playing it was a pleasant surprise as well. Nice tone and good to play. I’m impressed!
I’m looking to find out how much an old Guild guitar is worth. I purchased it used sometime between the late 1970’s to early 1980’s It is in very good condition. – Hi elaine, try checking e bay for a similar guitar, i think there is one available. all I know is that in america barclay guitars were made by harmony, but here in asia barclay guitars are made in japan, I have a barclay guitar, it an electric les paul copy, probably from the late 70’s. all I can say it sounds awesome,and the craftmanship is superb.in japan i think the company that manufactured these guitars is associated with guyatone. im not sure if harmony guitars is the distributing company in america. I also have barclay gibson les paul copy, "let’s play" music written on headstock.Don’t know where and when it was made, sound really great.
I own a Barclay American made guitar, and have found out that they were made by the Harmony guitar company in Chicago around the time they were making Silvertones, Aldens and numerous other brands. The Unity Buying Services had Harmony make their guitars (similar to the Harmony lines) only with their headstocks and specs. Mine is a H74-3, which is found on the inner part of the body in a greenish type print. They guitars also will have another number on it such as f-67, which means it was made in July of 1967. These guitars featured high dollar features like DeArmond pickups, Maple bodies and necks, Brazilian Rosewood fingerboards and abalone pearl inlays, as well as nitro-cellulose finishes (which will crack as time goes by).

I dont know much about barkley guitars but my first electric was a barkley.It was two pickup with a vibrato, that was in 1971 boy was I cool ha ha. My mother bought it from some discount mail order cat. in Chicago I believe. I also got an amp but it wasnt as loud as my freinds Harmony so it was sent back & I got the same Harmony amp but I played it until I bought a Fender Mustang.The Barkley was a red sunburst kinda 60s color I have a Norma wall hanger that looks about the same.Sorry I cant offer more info.
I got given a twelve string by my guitar teacher, he thinks its from the 60s. It definitely looks like it might have been. On the inside it says its a barclay and the serial number is 1277 and is made in japan.

I have my great grandfather’s guitar.
I a few years back sent it to Martin. They let me know that it was manufacured in 1893 and everything is original on the guitar. They said it was in good condition. I have been told by someone that theer isn’t a huge collectible market for it because of the small body and can really only utilize gut strings. I still wonder what it is worth appoximately. Rosewood with ivory pearl on neck. Does any body have an idea what a range would be for it?

As I’ve said earlier BARCLAY is still around!! In 2006 they are now on another Japaneese site "www.mascorp.co.ip/index.html " I guess they must have been bought up by another co. You can still see their current models though.

BUT THE COLOUR pix showw all models currently still built. The site, I can’t remember, but try barclay guitars, or burclay musical instuments or something to that effect. I guarentee the co. is still in business and if you look on some european guitar sites, you will see the still use them over there.

I own two Lord Guitars model 9402. They are both half sized six string acoustics with no serial #. Im very interested in learning more about these guitars as they seem to be cheaply made from great materials. One of the two playes very nice and the other one is unplayable due to severe warping. Yes I Own A LORD BASS. It’s a violin shaped Paul McCartney style. It was my first bass. My Dad bought it for me November 1966. I also have the original case. Both are in very good condition.

It’s black and roughly the same dimensions as a Les Paul. The headstock originally had a Lord decal, but that wore off years ago. I used it all the time in a working band after purchasing it around 1968 along with an after market case. The sound was fairly mellow and much lighter than a real LP. Also has a bolt-on neck, unlike a LP.
I still have it and it still works to an extent though it’s become difficult at best to keep in tune. I was looking to restore it about 10 years ago but I (like others here) found virtually nothing about it on line and no available LP/Epi parts would fit. It was supposed to be a clone of the LP, according to the dealer I bought it from but it soon became evident that the dimensions were not exact. The former owner of ABC Music in Burbank, CA was able to fill in the blanks one day.
He told me that a number of companies flooded the market with cheap LP clones after the patent lapsed briefly. Ibanez made the famous clone and ended up being sued by Gibson. But a lot of the cheap Korean clones were (in Gibson’s opinion) not close enough to fool anyone so they were allowed. He didn’t know the name Lord specifically, but said that importers would have hundreds made under one name, then more under another and so on. The catch, in terms of restoring, is that the Korean models were all made to metric dimensions that were close but not the same as the real guitar they imitated. Thus I found out that restoration was probably not possible unless I wanted to fill the existing holes and risk drilling more at what would be nearly the spot of the originals.
Overall, it was decently made to have held up through 6 years of active playing all the time. I can’t complain that I didn’t get my money out of it, but despite the sheer volume supposedly made at the time, I’ve never been able to get my hands on any of the metric dimension parts to fit. I saw one other similar to mine in a pawn shop (brand also unknown due to decal being long gone) that I thought was probably of the Lord era.

I have one that I bought new. I love it and it’s in perfect condition. I don’t think there are many because I have seached it and never found any for sale.

Dude I have also! Trying to sell it for $450 (has a slight "hum" in pick up) … But I have seen another guy selling it for $750 online … I also do not know what it’s worth.

I also own one of these fine guitars. I bought it in 1963 in Paris, France, for about $200, which was a lot of money back then. I still play the guitar. It’s sunburst in color, has 3 pickups, and push button pickup selectors.

I bought a Galanti guitar in 1967 and have used it ever since. Its still in great condition (black,sunburst with white plastic cover.) The serial # is 4614. There is some belt buckle wear on the back of guitar but otherwise still looks like it did when I bought it. I’ve been very protective of it all these years. This guitar has the 0-2-1-m black button controls at top of white panel and volume and tone controls at bottom right. Also treble bar.
I have only seen this guitar used by a professional player once on tv many years ago and have never seen another one besides mine. I was wandering about the value of my guitar. I don’t want to sell it but I am curious. When I bought it in 1967 I think it sold for $267.00 which was a good deal of money at the time. I actually bought it from a jewelry shop in Larenceville, Virginia.
I’d appreciate any info you could give me on this guitar.

lol keep looking you probly still won’t find any info on em. i got two jedsons both very nice, refurbished by myself… erm can’t really say much except you refered to a bass picture… well for some reason some jedsons were converted from bass to normal guitars. if look at the heads on a lot of jedsons they resemble bass guitars. one of mine is one of these. they are not that rare but they are a nice old vintage guitar with a decent tone all of its own. i love em
I have a mid seventies les paul copy. But it does not have a brand name or serial number. All their is is a sticker that says lp-29t. Ibanez copies don’t use that serial and so I was wondering what design your jedsons have on their heads.
im a guitarist in an up and coming band, i only use jedson guitars in that band for the tone etc etc… i use a shortscale 335 copy, and two telecaster copies one single pickup with a vibrato (converted by myself), and the other is a two pickup that had a broken vibrato when i bought it but i have put a solid tailpiece on it. i cant find any info on them really, i aquired my first due to the fact that i like the cheap 60s ‘lawsuit’ guitars. i believe the full title of the brand is ‘James Edward Dean and Sons’ hence JEDSon. and they began in the 20s or 30s making lap banjos and slide guitars, later being distributed by the Dallas Arbiter company of London. http://www.remembreremembre.tk

Hi i think the guitar is from the late 50s to mid 60s thay were a cheap guitar turned out for all the budding guitarest of that error.Hope that helps

I have a Barcley from 60s too. Barcley is not Barclay! Barclay is a pretty well known american brand. There are hundreds of thousands barclays in the world. And I guess there are only few Barcleys.
I have no idea what the value of the Barcley I have is. I tried to search it on Google but it only showed me Barclays. I don’t know what year it is either. Any help?
My dad has this guitar from the 60’s, I’m sure, but I don’t know the exact year it was made. It’s a 12-string Barclay Custom, sunburst pattern with an interesting pick guard. I haven’t found anything on it, and all that I know about it is what I’ve told you, but I’d be interested in finding out about the Barclay guitar company.

THE THING THAT STRUCK ME ODD WAS THAT HE SAID THAT HE WWAS COLLECTING THEM AND THAT THEY MAY ONE DAY BE WORTH SOME MONEY HOWEVER THAT BECAUSE MINE HAD NO MARKING IN IT TELLING THE DATE OF WHEN IT WAS MADFE THAT IT MIGHT ACTUALLY BE THE FIRST ONE MADE BY BACLAY! HE SAID HE HAD A 67, 68, & A 69 AND OFFERED ME A $100.00 FOR IT, WHEN I TURNED HIM DOWN HE OFFERED $125.00 AND THEN $150.00 FINNALLY I TOLD HIM JUST TO GIVE ME HIS NUMBER, LET ME DO SOME MORE REASERCH ON IT AND I’D CALL HIM. RELLUCTANTLY HE GAVE ME HIS NUMBER BUT I NEVER CALLED BECAUSE I COULD NOT FIND ANY MORE INFO OTHER THAN WHAT HE HAD TOLD ME. A friend took a good look at the instrument and found some numbers…. Anyone know what they mean? First group is S-69-W (or possibly H?)Next group is RN followed by some unintelligible script. Last group is probably an actual serial number 7914 1203-3

I have a Barcley Custom guitar, Model R-340 distributed by RMI in Ottawa, Canada. It’s a beautiful guitar. I know nothing else about it.
I have been given a barcley custom R-360 not 340 and it wasn’t ever played just collecting dust and inside it says barcley custom R-360 made in Japan distributed by R.M.I. Ottawa. It’s was my sons grandfathers and he was about 12 when he got it and lived in Ottawa he is in his 60s now so I am pretty sure it’s from the 1960s. I can not even find information on R.M.I Ottawa. It would be interesting to compare the guitars
I have a 1967 Barclar. It’s an "ice tea" burst hallow body manufactured by Harmony Guitars. My serial number is 7522H74-3 F67 (Fall 1967). Mine looks like a combination H74 model and a "Rocket" model. It has a Harmony trem and Rowe DeArmond PU’s. It’s very KOOL! I believe that Barclar was a brand name used by a dept. chain and Harmoney made the guitars…
Correction – my guitar is a "BARCLAY". I mis-spelled it in my previous message…
I recently found an accoustic barclay in my grandmother’s closet, apparently its from the mid 70’s, it is made of some light hardwood, has very cheap tuners and an arched fretboard. The only writing i can find on it is "barclay" and "steel reinforced neck" it has a pretty severe crack and the neck is seperating from the body but it sounds decent enough to fix.
There seems to be two different kinds of Barcley
guitars around. One type was made in Japan and the
other was made in the Midwest. I know a little about
the ones in the Midwest.
Back in the late 1970’s, early 1980s the Barcley
Brothers had a shop in my home town of Bartonville,
Illinois, just south of Peoria. The brothers hand
made jazz archtop quitars. I didn’t have the $1500
they wanted for a new one back then, but I did have
them work on my Martin. They flattened the frets on
the Martin. I noticed at that time that all the frets
on the Barcleys were flat.
The jazz player Mary Osbourne played a Barcley for a
while. They are nice guitars if you find one in nice condition.

hey I recently found your folowup and I have a 67 Barclay that says "Barclay USA Chicago, Illinois" it has one single PU everything but 2 screws are original the headstock has slight damage but elsewhere there is no visible or structural damage

My dad has a Barclay guitar as well. It’s a gorgeous mahogany acoustic with a white pick guard. Decent sound to it as well. I asked him and my mother when they got it, it’s believed around the early 70’s sometime. Aside from that, I can find no info on them, nor does there appear to be any on EBay.

It’s a 6 string guitar and is in pretty good shape, looks new but has no strings on it. The place where you’d brush the pick across is plastic, the rest is wood. More on the heavy side… seems like a nice guitar but… I’ve never really examined a guitar before now.

There is a Barcley (note spelling) guitar made in Japan. I’m holding one at this moment that my father gave to me when I was 12 in 1970. It has been in it’s case too much and I’m looking for someone to do some repairs on it to restore it. So the spelling is correct, just for the record : )
A friend of mine gave his old Barclay electric guitar to his 10 year old step-son recently. I’ve never heard of them but I took it home and totally cleaned it, smoothed the fretboard out as it was never finish sanded and was quite rough. I polished and oiled it a bit. I’d like to put a Duncan Hotrail in it too. I put some GHS Boomer lights on it and was quite suprised by the action. The PU has got to go though. It has a really cool chrome & gold metal cover and who knows what’s underneath it. It’s very retro with a Thunderbird/Mustang sort of body. It will be a good guitar for the kid to learn on for awhile.

I have a barclay les paul copy, it really looks like a real gibson les paul, they did’nt change a thing,probably straight out of the "lawsuit era" or probably older. all I know is that the guitar is made in japan, and yes they are still in business, but I think they only make acoustic guitar these days. oh and there is also barclay guitars that were made by harmony guitars, you can check out their pictures on harmony’s web site. all I can say is that my barclay les paul copy sounds and looks gorgeous.

I purchased a barclay electric (on ebay $100), thin hollow body, binding all around, double cut away, 2 s/c pickups, and vibrato bar. This guitar appearance was decent, electronics were a basket case. I completly re-wired, added new controls, this guitar sounds great, plays very well, very cool retro look. My first electric guitar was a Barclay semi-acoustic, cherry sunburst with white binding. It was an archtop and was fitted with two microphonic pickups (magnetics was very expensive in those days). It had a hardtail (trapeze-type) with a floating ebony bridge and was really quite attractive. I paid about $30 brand new in about 1967 – that was a lot of money for a kid in highschool in those days. I only traded it about 5 years back to ‘Better Music’ in Canberra for a Fender Newport acoustic. As I recall, they gave me $100, as the electrics had seen better days and the neck needed sorting after years of playing. I still have the Fender and a Les Paul Studio, but my taste for Jazz got the better of me and I recently bought an Ibanez Artcore semi. The Barclay was terh start of my long love affair with electric guitars and I still have fond memories of it.

Wow! Barcley, Barclay, Barkley, CMI, Harmony, Teisco, I’m totally confused haha. I recently picked up a Japanese ‘ Barkley ‘ 70’s L.P. Special copy, the guitar is all original with case and is excellent. By chance I found the same guitar in England labeled CMI, it’s easy to see they are exactly the same. Any thoughts?
barcley instruments were made by teisco…lookup barkley fender maverik….copies of mostly fender products or other stencil brands…apparently barkley was for the canadian market and barclay was for american..harmony did not mfg these guitars but may have ordered some to stencil as theirs…i just picked up a barcley solid body electric mandoline…teisci pup for sure,,zero fret..floating wood bridge…pretty nifty..very playable…thats why i did this info search
I bought this in 1969 .I paid 125.00 for it about 20 yrs ago I was offered 5000.00 for it the guy had d45 Martin and my Barclay put it to shame He wanted to buy it right away He didn,t get .I was just playing it tonight and it will put a Martin to shame
I have a Barcley Custom, I heard that Gibson had an over stock of Hummingbirds, and slapped a different sticker on them to move them fast at a better price. You can move 100 at $500 in the time it would take to move 10 at $1500. I like the story, and when I look at this guitar, if it didn’t say Barcley on it I’d swear it was a Gibson. Black bell an all. Out of all my guitars, which are many, that Barcley holds it’s own.

I own a Barcley custom guitar which I purchased in Ontario Canada (new) in 1970.for $120.I bought it at a guitar dealership.I think it was there for a year or so , before I bought it .So I would say it’s 1969 or possibly 1968.Its exactly like a Hummingbird.The headstock has a black plate with a narrow band that is raised around the perimeter of the plate and is silver in colour.It is in the shape of a (T). On the top part of the T it reads Barcley and in the up and down position it reads custom.The plate is held in place by 2 rivets on each side of the word (Barcley) I’m pretty sure that the wood is Brazillian Rosewood. I installed a set of elixir Nanoweb .013-056 strings.The sound is like nothing that I’ve heard before.The highs and lows are nothing short of perfect.It rings like a Liberty Bell.I’ve been trying to root up info on it for awhile now but to no avail.Seems to be a Rare bird.I’ve been looking at the forums and there are a few (very few that is) around but everyone has the same problem in finding out info. on these Guitars.(What’s the Problem.)Where are all the(so called knowledgeable experts)? A friend of mine has a (Positively) Barcley Custom Acoustic Guitar that was made in Japan.He says he bought it in Toronto Canada in 1968.Its an exact replica,pick guard ,fret markers and all to a Gibson Hummingbird but far superior in sound I’ve yet to hear a guitar with such remarkable sound.The sustain is unreal.It appears to be Brazilian Rosewood.HEwasTOLD it was.Can someone shed any light on it.HEsays he’s been trying to find info on it for the past 10 years but keeps coming up Blank.Where are all of the knowledgeable Guitar people? Where are they Hiding.MY opinion ( for what it’s worth) is that I think it is a rare find and probably of value .HOLD ON to it if your lucky enough to stumble onto one in the dark. I have a “Barcley Custom” R340 acoustic. Seems to be a spelling issue pertaining to this guitar on this thread. My dad bought mine for me in 1969 in Ottawa, On. I recently took it to a luthier here and he corrected a nut zero line error on it and wondered how I played it the way it was made. He did a bunch of other adjustments and fixed it up nice and it sounds so much better.

I just started doing some research and found very little but here is what I can share.

Barcley Guitars,R.M.I distributing,Ottawa, Model R-340, printed in japan ( not sure what was printed and why it read like that , “Made in Japan ” may be more appropriate). I was about 10 years old when I discovered it in a basement closet and played around with it all the way through high school and into university at Carleton in Ottawa where i had very talented musical roomates from Sault Ste. Marie who got me into busking Stompin Tom Connors, John Prine, folk and bluegrass tunes etc.. As I progressed in my playing abilities I started to take notice of how rough shape this instrument had developed into over the years (comparing it to my all my roomates higher end guitars ). I frequented Song Bird music in town, purchased and traded in a few different acoustics on a student budget (About 4 or 5 different buy,sell and trade exchanges over 4 years ) but they never felt the same as I was use to the size and fit of my dad’s Barcley. After school and into the job market finally making some monies, I decided to try and see if it could be brought back up to a decent sounding and playing instrument again and was given the name of a local luthier named Fred Gabrsek of Freddys Frets (http://www.freddysfrets.com/). He took it, upgraded the machine heads, cut a new nut, hand worked the frets, action, did the intonation and got it tunned pretty good. I think the bill was about $400.00 back around 1995. May have been more than the guitar was worth but it was worth it to me as i love to play it to this day. I get decent compliments on its sound and feel from much better players than I who have takin it for a spin. Good tone, feel, playability etc.. For a 47 year old guitar, all the parties and campfires, thats pretty good. Suffice it to say, I would still rejoice in the purchase of a Martin D45 or D18 to take me through to the end.

I have one too! but mine is an R-340. My dad gave it to me in 1970 so that gives you a rough idea. I’m in Ottawa too. He originally went into a store here to get me one for my 12th birthday, saw one he liked, went back the next day and it was gone and ended up getting me this one. I’ve held onto it all these years, played it off and on and now paying the price for letting it sit in it’s case. I’ve been playing my new Yamaha. So I’m looking for someone to repair it. Some work has been done but I was told it needs a little more extensive work but I want to restore it. As the thread goes here the conversation is changing to “Barclay” guitars, not the same.

Where can I find information about appraisers of vintage guitars? I have a old Goya guitar (Model g25 made by AB Herman Carlson in Sweden) which I bought in 1961 and is still in very good condition. I want to find out it is worth today.

Sorry, but Fenix stopped making guitars in 1996. It was the brand name for Young Chang who are a superb piano maker. It ws the same company that made Japanese Fenders

Fenix guitars were made by Young Chang who used to make guitars for Fender Japan. When Fender quit making in Japan Young Chang started his own company. A retail outlet in Scotland bought a huge ammount of stock and sold them on a mail order basis. The guitars are usually well made and reasonably finished, in fact, worth more than their meagre retail price from £90-£150, depending on the model.
I managed to find one in a junk shop and bought it for £60. It needed a good clean and a set up but once this was accomplished it played very well. The pickups were made to look like Fender Lace Sensors and were OK but not great. I’ve subsequently loaded it with Seymour Duncan pickups ( alnico pro,neck, reverse-wound alnico pro middle and little screamin’demon humbucker in the bridge position ). It is now my main gigging guitar and produces all the sounds I need.

I am from the UK and bought a Fenix Tele in 1993 from a shop in Ayr – it was s/h but almost new and cost me 200 quid which was quite a bit. I still have the guitar and play and record with it all the time. Great to play
I have a Fenix electric guitar, Strat tipe with 3 single pickups. Serial no is E9114461. I would like to know where is manufactured and when. The guitar is unbelivible good sound and finish. So I would like to now a realy price for it. I don’t beleive that on net I cant find anything abouth it.
I have a collection of these fabulous guitars 23 so far and all are great they were made by the Young Chang Factory in Korea as copies of mainly the Fender range although there are some Gibson Copies as well. Although it is thought they originally made for Fender it is very hard to prove this I have seen one Strat made in korea which probably came from Young Chan who was one of three brothers. Because of the quality of these Guitars they were eventually shut down by Fender little information is available as to how or where they are now.
If you are lucky enough to find one keep hold of it as they are getting harder to find and thus more valuable often seen on German ebay but hold thier prices well.
i swapped a jap strat for my 1981 fenix telecaster in 2001,it was in a music shop in manchester for 400.00 pounds, i had never heard of fenix at that time so rang a mate in liverpool who’s knowledge of guitars is legendry who gave fenix a glowing thumbs up so i swapped the strat for the fenix telecaster and definately got the better deal.
the strat played and sounded good, the tele is superb.
i play classic rock and blues and the fenix is sweet as a nut going through a 100w marshall.
i dont use an overdrive pedal,i use the overdrive from the amp through a behringer hellbabe wah wah pedal and a behringer delay and a peavey chorus pedal,i get remarks about the sound and looks (slightly aged )of the guitar from other guitarist and many have offerd good money for it,but i always refuse, cos she’s my baby…

Hi there guitar lovers, I`m playing a 12year old Fenix young chang, and I tell you all I bought It in groningen holland for only €50. I won`t sell it for a €1000 becouse I never played such a smooth guitar, just as good as a €2500 fender. Hi, I have a white Fenix Les Paul copy. Ive had it for around 17/18 years now and its the best guitar ive ever owned. Would love to find out more about the history of the guitar, but info hard to find.
I have a Fenix B-10 on loan and I’m amazed by this instrument. It did require a little truss rod tweaking and now it sounds and plays like a very expensive ABG. IF I could find a good case for it I’d turn in my AgnosticClub membership card. Thanks, K

: : I managed to find one in a junk shop and bought it for £60. It needed a good clean and a set up but once this was accomplished it played very well. The pickups were made to look like Fender Lace Sensors and were OK but not great. I’ve subsequently loaded it with Seymour Duncan pickups ( alnico pro,neck, reverse-wound alnico pro middle and little screamin’demon humbucker in the bridge position ). It is now my main gigging guitar and produces all the sounds I need.

: Don’t forget that Fenix are made by Young Chang who made Strats for Fender – the story is that he made BETTER guitars under his own brand name of Fenix and this got him into trouble with Fender.I can understand why as well. This suburst model has the Fender shaped headstock and an earlier serial number than the other two guitars so could guess that these were ‘lawsuit’ models ( a well used term nowadays for anything resembling anything else) meaning that Young Chang had to change them.
: Hence we now have the wider headstock (can’t describe it any better than this because its unlike anything else) and the bevelled headstock. Regardless of the headstock shape, they all have the same quality build and feel to them. Tonally, they are similar (all 3 having the Lace Sensor looking stacked humbuckers).

mm, my dad bought me a fenix les paul shaped guitar ages ago, now that i play the guitar seriously, it is actually a pretty good guitar.. i have been told that it sounds tinny, but a hundred quid cheapo aint gonna sound like a custom shop gibson is it?!
but it looks good, especially since ive replaced all of the non electric hardware with gold ones. there are a few bad things about it like: bolt on neck, no glue. and a mahogany fingerboard, but its a pretty tough chappy, and while im saving up for the real thing, its a pretty good substitute i think…

Another point to make out is in agreement with fender fenix guiatars could not be sold under the "fenix" brand name, so if u have one its illegal 😛 plus quite rare increasing the price

have owned this guitar from new and purchased it for around £200 from the importer on mail order from Scotland, I use it mainly as my “Practice” hack so the frets are pretty worn and the paint finish is faded (the gold finish hardware wore away quickly from day one) The body has cream binding and it was very pretty when new……it is also extremely heavy (I,m sure it has a mahogany body). The playability on the neck is tremendous, better than any of the American Fenders I have owned since I’ve had the Fenix……..I am considering selling my current “Fat Strat Texas Special” and spending a few quid on the Fenix to replace the pick-ups, machine-heads and get a re-fret as it is obviously let down in these areas compared to the Strat as it was less than a quarter of the price new……..I’d like to hear from anyone who has modded a Fenix with regards to cost and final results!
I bought a Fenix TC-30 in 1991 from Musikhaus Thomann in Germany. This guitar features a mahogany-body with Birdseye-maple veneer on top (and rear!!!). The body is fully bound in cream on top and the under-side. The finish is a beautiful purple-burst, all hardware is gold-plated. The price was then a ridiculous DM 239! The bridge is the same as it was used on some Fender Elite Teles. In 2001, I changed the PUs for a Broadcaster Set STL-1B/STL-1R. It sounds fantastic. However, because of my preference of ebony over rosewood fingerboards., I had a special neck made (Birdseye maple base / ebony fb) which enhanced sustain and clarity even more. I still have it, as it is, but now facing the first problems with the tarnishing of the gold-parts. Anyway, I will still keep and play it.

I have owned my acoustic maison for 24 years and love it. I came here looking for info on them because I don’t understand how we don’t hear more about such a great guitar. I live in Australia and my maison is the only one that I have ever seen, I’m not deluded enough to think I’ve got the only one but this shows how uncommon they are and that is something that has baffled me for some time.

hi, my dad bought a white maison les paul deluxe along with a small park amp and a boss tuner for £50 at a boot sale in exeter, devon, England, the tuner was crap primarily because it was broken, the amp is fine, but the maison les was in a sorry state, knackerd pickup covers and machine heads, missing tail stop, dented frets, and the block inlay on the first fret was coming unstuck, my dad had the frets dressed, replaced the machine heads and pickup covers with gold parts as it was orininally he made better fitting control plates on the back and wired it so both volume and tones were individual to each humbucker, oh and the inlay was repaired, it now looks fantastic, very exspensive and shiny looking, it plays and sounds much better than the epiphone model, the head stock is much better than the epiphone and i think i prefer it to the gibson les paul i used to have. stefan price, ps my dad is the greatest!

The older ones, like the FA-740D that I have, were apparently made in a five-story factory. Ground floor was the guitarmaking operation, and the top four floors made plumbing fixtures and things along that line. They were hand-made (at least mine certainly and obviously was). It’s really hard to find much of anything on the original company. There’s a new incarnation now, but I don’t think it’s the same company, it’s someone who’s bought the rights to the name.

I was looking too for some news about Maison guitars but I found anything; the only thing that I remember is that about 10 years they were famous for good imitations of Les Paul guitars.

I have this wonderful guitar with me for more than 20 years now and wondering how much it cost now if I would sell it.
This so called museum/guitar seller sold me a guitar which arrived broken. I notified them and instead of making things right they resorted to making accusation and refusing to help resolve the situation. A real bummer that this seller is so unprofessional. They were very rude and unpleasant from the get go. Avoid this seller. Anyone interested in knowing more of just how bad my experience turned out to be, feel free to message me. My Maison SAS-620 is a perfect build instrument, produced by the professional line of that Korean company. It’s an exact Gibson ES-335 copy. The guitar is made in 1986.
She’s build in a professional way, nothing wrong with it. Finished in red transparent color with goldware and the wood is visible wich i find really beautiful.
Altough she sounded allright, the neck humbucker was a bit to weak and trebly for my ears.
I invested in a pair of very good PAF humbuckers, the HB’59 handmade by Andreas Kloppmann (Germany).

That Maison guitar have the sweetest tone you can imagine and can win the comparison now with any Gibson guitar, i’m sure about that.
Because i was so pleased with the quality of that Maison guitar, the moment i had the opportunity i bought a second one: It’s a Maison LPC-190W. Made in 1980, as i was told. That is an exact Les Paul copy, and a heavy one also, well understood! Same story here: she’s build with great craftmanship, has a glued-in neck. However, the block inlays are not mother of pearl but a kind of synthetic ‘pearl’. It’s a black one with goldware wich is still in good shape. This Les Paul plays very well and have very much tone and sustain.
No doubt: those (professional line) Maison guitars gonna be searched by musicians and collectors, i’m for sure, and prices will rise. If you can find such one: don’t hesitate and make her yours.

Galanti has not manufactured guitars since the late 60’s or early 70’s. I happen to love these medium quality guitars. I have owned several Galantis in the past bunch of years. I have seen them in Red, White, Green and Sunburst color schemes, all with matching headstocks (accept the sunburst ones) and I have also seen a hollow body model and a Galanti Amp! Galantis definately have a unique sound, and the neck size seems to fit my hand perfectly, which is probably why I seem to like them so much. I was e-mailed about 2 months ago by a person who said that he was writing a book on vintage European guitars, and that the book would have a section on Galanti guitars. I can’t wait. I will post a message when he lets me know that the book is out. In the meantime, feel free to e-mail me with anything regarding Galanti guitars! – Will

hello from Spain. I´m written for your interest in Galanti guitars. I have a guitar workshop and in this week I´ve seviced a sumburst hollow body Galanti. Is my first time I´ve seen this brand from Italy 60´s. I must to said I´m surprised with technical tips of this guitar so advanced for the sixties. ej. Roller saddles in the bridge, pickups mounting system, vibrato, electronics. The lock is diferent a hollow body (335 type) with bolt-on neck (fender type). The sound is very good for me after change some in the electronic. I´ll be locking for more about Galanti.

I remember seeing the green sunburst version. I also remember seeing a Goya solid body guitar which was an exact duplicate of the Galanti. It wouldn’t surprise me if they both came out of the same factory. I don’t think copies were big back then.
Last thing, I checked E Bay a few weeks ago and saw a Galanti Semi Hollow body for sale. It had the same neck as the solid body. Any news on Galanti would be interesting.

Made in Japan mostly in the 80’s. A pretty high quality, neck-through Japanese guitar with humbuckers. Hard to find and reasonably collectible by the people who know what they’re looking for. I think the pickups are Duncans.

your crest archtop was made by harmony.they were distributed by sears and roebuck prior to ww2 some of them were carved archtops and are fine guitars. look inside with an inspection mirror and you can see if it has a solid spruce top. you will see tool markings on the underside of the arch.
Hello again folks, well it has been what 6 years? since I first posted on here asking for info on a Crest guitar that I have and I am sad to say that I havn’t found out a thing about it yet,mine is a acoustic arch top with "F" holes, looking down inside of it you can see the numbers 3758 and F20 and also S37, On the head stock it has like a family coat of arms symble and on top of a flag it has the name Crest on it,It belonged to my father and I know for a fact that it is around 80 years old going by what my mother knows,my dad bought it used when he was 16,he would now be 93, he won a talent contest when he was 16 while playing it in New Albany Pa.I had the news paper clipping at one time that told about it but it has since disapeared,well this is about all I do know about,it would sure mean a lot to me to be able to find out more about it, any info at all will sure be appreciated,Thank you so much,Don

I have one of the LP copies named "Crest" no Model or serial #’s or any other marking other than the crest name all cap’s in gold. It weigh’s just over 9 lbs and has real mother of pearl with the Gibson logo on the head stock Ivory like binding with a dual humbucking pickups the color is simular to my new les paul which is wine red.

Hello Cal my crest is a copy of a es175d. theres no numbers any wear on this guitar. I bought it at a garage sale. The pickups did not work, knobs and all hardware was in a bag.I brought it to a well known and reliable luther and he repaired it.His thought was that it was someones studio guitar onetime,next to excellent condition. He valued it at 800.00 to 900.00.I sent a photo.
Hi Cal,Thanks for your interest in my Crest guitar, I have just about given up in finding out anything about it, seems nobody knows a thing, Mine belonged to my father and was passed on to me, he bought it used when he was 16 years old,if now alive he would be 93 so this is a very old guitar that is pushing 100years old,it is an acustic with double "F" holes, there is a number down inside of it but that hasn’t helped me either, it is still in it’s original leather clad case(which shows the years of wear)it is missing the pick guard and one of the ivory tuner knobs but for it’s age other than that it is in fair shape, I wish I could send you a picture of it but I am not to swift on this computer, the next time my buddy comes over I will get him to help me send a picture, Thanks again,Don
There has been some discussion on the other sites that can be found if you run a search for "crest guitar." These discussions seem to center on a Gibson-made Crest. I had a Crest 12-string that I picked up new in the mid-1960’s. It wasn’t a Gibson because it had a violin type body, something like a Beatle bass, blonde color, with a rather narrow neck for a 12-string. It also had a vibrato tailpiece. It didn’t sound too bad. I used to string it as a 6-string since I was playing music on weekends and I got tired of breaking the octave G-string. I have never been able to locate any information on this non-Gibson guitar, and I haven’t seen anything that looks remotely like it since.

I also have an old Crest guitar that my dad bought from an army buddy in 1942 or 43…arch top, double cutaway with a family crest on the head…no other marks or numbers. no idea where or when it was made.
I have one also and I’d like to know more about it’s history, value (if any), etc.

I don’t know if that’s anything like the other Crest’s out there. But i’d like to know. But since i don’t see much on them on the net. And they have a fairly good sound, I think they might be worth a little something. Well any way. Any information on it would be appreciated.

I too have a Les Paul copy that looks a lot like a Univox LP copy, but after searching the internet the headstock is a closer match to the Crest model. I wonder if Crest were manufactured at Univox in the 70’s?
I just acquired a Crest copy of a Gibson ES-175 from e-bay, and it appears identical to the lawsuit copies made by Aria and Ibanez, so I suspect Crest was a brand made in Japan at the same factory that made Aria and/or Ibanez in the late 70’s
I have a old Crest guitar who made it
I was given a Crest Stratocaster copy in 1970 and learned to play on it. Never knew who made it or where it came from. Was not too bad to learn on.
Then I got a Gibson ES-330 four years later and realized what a nice guitar was like.
Do You have any info on Rider guitars.
I have a J 400 (copy of a J 200) It sounds better than a new Gibson

I have had one for 30 years and all my guitar buddies think it sounds as good as the Gibson does.I wonder what it would be worth today?
