: Can anyone give me any info on an Alvarez 5086 Silver Anniversary, such as hen it was made, cost when new, fair market value now if in decent shape, etc.
Here is the response I got from the guy at Alvarez: Good guess on the woods. These are laminates, by the way. This guitar should have the bi-phonic system. You can split the output to stereo, or use it mono. This will split to bass strings to one jack, treble to the other. The switch will convert from stereo to mono. This model had a $950 list price when discontinued in the mid 1990’s.

no Alvarez catalog seems to identify my 5020N serial#. Any ideas out there that will help me find the value of this beautiful sounding and easy playing accoustic? When other guitarists are around they always seem to want to play my Alvie when given a choice. I don’t blame them, it’s sweet as it gets…..Jimmy B. P.S It was purchased used in Bowling Green Oh, by the Music Director of BG University, Depue, for his son Alex Depue, aka the "FIDDLER". He was my next door neighbor and was and currently is one of the greatist violinists in the country today. I believe he needed money badly. I may be a little off, but it seems I paid him about $225-$250 for it about 8-9 years ago.

I have a 1971 Alvarez K. Yari model number 5075 in exellent cond. and I was wondering when it was made, and what it is worth. It sounds better than most Martins of the early 70’s. Not really interested in selling, just want to know what I’ve got.

: Hello, does any body knows the value of this one?
Probably somewhere between $100 to $200 depending on condition and whether it has the original hard shell case.
These are nice guitars made out of good quality wood. If you find one whose neck is flat and hasn’t started collapsing into the soundhole, it’s worth every bit of $200. It’s got a big full sound that you’d expect from more expensive dreadnoughts. Tuners are high quality on this one.
Does anyone know what it typically costs to get the neck reset on one of these? With companies like Martin moving to wood-alternatives, the price of a quality Korean made guitar should start to increase. Getting guitars like these restored is always a good investment when you love how it sounds.
: Hello, does any body knows the value of this one? I am able to buy one but don’t knof if the price is right! Thanks from the Dutch guitar playing girl!!
I bought mine brand new in 1995 for $450, but just saw one w/ a case on craigslist in little rock, Arkansas for $299.

I just started researching this one, so this is the 1st I’ve heard of others. I own 302/800. My Dad bought it 1976 for my mom, who gave it to me because she never learned to play it. It has only a couple of minor surface scratches, but has original case and is in excellent overall condition. I’ve played it regularly since around 1988. It sat in it’s case until then. I think she said he paid around $500 for it in ’76. I’ve been offered $2,000, but would never part with it. It’s the only thing i remember being around as long as my parents…It’s like an old friend.
i played one for about 5 years in the clubs in houston . it was a great guitar had a warm tone and played great .i collected guitars for a long time and always was sorry i sold it — looking for one now
I have number 440/800. Bought it new in 1976. Great acoustic. I was under the understanding when I bought it that it was actually crafted by Yairi, which are normally their more expensive handcrafted guitars. Don’t know how true that is, but I have played Yairis and it plays and sounds just as good.
: Ive never had any luck finding any info on this guitar. just wondering if anyone new anything about it. an acoustic guitar with an engraved plate on the back of the headstock reading : "Bicentennial Model, Limited Edition, 763/800"
: Any info would be great
I got one that has "76" and star inlay with white ivory binding on the fretboard and a herring bone like binding on the body. It looks like a copy of a Martin d35 "76" but with a split back instead of a 3 piece back. I would also like to get an idea of the worth…I’ve had it since the early 80’s bought it at a pawn shop for $200. and have never seen another one like it. I think the model number is 5054

I bought this exact same guitar about 2 years ago at a Pawn Shop in Dallas and it was stolen out of my truck a month later. It had nice tuning machines and unusual inlaid abalone fret markings. I paid $225 for it with the HSC and they said It had been there for over a year. I miss that guitar!! If there is any chance you want to sell it give me a call. 214-228-6264 Thanks, RR
I have one but it has no plaque on the head. It was a gift from my father for my 16th birthday. It has a beatiful tone and color. The sound rivals my Martin D35. I do have an Alvarez sales brochure that came with it, but I have never been able to find anything on ot either.
I have 745/800. I assume Bicentennial means it was made in 1976(?) – but don’t know for sure. It’s the best sounding guitar I’ve ever played – got it in 1989 in Chicago for $300.
Model Number 5039…thought that would be helpful
I traded a newer Alvarez for this 5039 Alvarez. Mine is 6?? / 800, I forget. I cannot tell if the spruce top is solid or laminated. Has the adjustable bridge. Odd 70s vintage tuners with black finish. I have heard the 5039 described as a Martin D35 copy. It has the 3 piece back with contrasting wood in the center like a D35. The head stock looks like a Guild. It has a Washburn shaped pick guard. Fancy inlays in the fret board. Plays wonderfully. Sounds dreamy. Typical 70s Alvarez quality. Nice guit.
A lot of hubbub over a plywood guitar. The whole thing is laminated and the sides barely look like wood on the inside. Just the same, it sounds great. I’d sell mine for a fair price.
Still for sale?
What’s a fair price?

I bought a bi centennial edition in 1976 it was a Alvarez Fox hollow, have not been able to find one or any reference to one anywhere, blonde, inlaid abalone, gold Keys, Paid 400 for it in 76.
I have recently bought the same guitar in an auction for 275, but I wouldn’t go by that alone because the auction company had no idea what they had, but Iv had the same problem of not being able to find ANY information on this guitar, but on a side note it is one of the finest sounding guitars Iv ever played.

I have one also 002\800 – model 5039
I bought it new in 1976 and have been playing it ever since. Wonderful sound – great to play. Have looked for others but I assume only 800 were made and I have #2. Will be happy to send photos
but would never sell.
I bought a Bi-centennial guitar new in 1976 and played it for several years
before it was stolen out of my car. I have often wanted to see pictures of one
again to remind me of how beautiful it was. I had always wanted a Martin D35 but
couldn’t afford one. I now have the D35 but would love to at least see pic’s of the
Alvarez. I remember a beautiful 3 piece back with gold tuning heads. A much prettier
instrument than my Martin. I occasionally check ebay to see if any are up for sale.
If I had one again, it would never leave my hands.
Pic’s would be appreciated.
Thanks
I bought mine in 1975 and it is #112 out of 800. Yeah, these were a limited edition. But as to value,I have no idea. Alvarez is and has been a great brand, I have played many tunes on this guitar, and now my son is doing the same.
Keep the faith on your piece.
We have #521 in mint condition..how much are they going for these days? Thanks

I just found one number 104, in immaculate condition, not a mark on it. Is it worth $350.00?
I was just doing some browsing and came across this old thread. I have the # 003/800 Bicentennial model. I bought it in 1976. It has a great tone but my action is high. I have a Martin 12-string and a Taylor nylon – so I don’t play the Alvarez much anymore. I’ll never trade it off – my first acoustic guitar. Any ideal what one of these are worth? Just curious – glad to see others have an appreciation of the the guitar too.

I have one for sale. Mine is in good played condition. There is a bit of visible pick wear on on the edge of the sound hold, minimal fret wear, a nick or two or three, a couple dings, no repairs, no damage, no signs of abuse. For a guitar almost half a century old, I’d say it’s in very good condition.

I just found this site while I was doing some browsing. I bought and still own an Alvarez bicentennial guitar from 1976. It is #3 of 800. I’ve played it all these years. The action is high but it has great tone. Any ideal what this guitar is worth? Thanks for any info.
i have #2 out 0f 800 my papaw had it for many years it stayed in the case never taking out but twice then my dad bought it he never played it he had it for over 20yrs then gave it to me ive opened the case 1 time and it still has never been out the case wounder what its truly worth?
One was listed on Ebay several months ago. It was in Mint Condition. The guy wanted $1,500. He kept
reducing the price until it went under $1,000. I don’t know if it sold or not. If it got low enough I was going
to buy it. I had one which was stolen from my car in Philadelphia somewhere around 1978. I’ve always wanted
another one because it was so beautiful and had a sweet tone. Mine had a 3 piece back unlike the one referenced
in another post.
I bought one new in 1976. One of the best guitars ive ever played.
i have a 5024 dove copy i am trying to figure out what year it was made the serial # is either 81609 or 305961. it is currently on ebay until dec 14th. check it out.

: I think my guitar may be an antique…can someone help me with a value on it?
I bought an alvarez 5227 new in 1986 for $200. My wife was recently told at a guitar shop that it is worth a decent amount, as it is an original, numbered Alvarez (not the new (Japanese?)stuff. The guy said that one of these in excellent condition could be worth $700-1000, but I can’t verify his expertise, and would get more opinions if I want to sell it, which I don’t. I’ve had this for almost 20 years and have only had to have the neck adjusted once. Great quality guitar.
I think my guitar may be an antique…can someone help me with a value on it?
Found another one on Ebay item #3736845338. 1st day of auction. Owner asking $600+. Is there any truth to the fact that this model, a Gibsopn Copy , was involved in a law suit by Gibson. I wonder how may were made. Could they be rare?

did you ever get an answer to this question? i have the same dilemma only the inlay on mine has cracked and pieces are started to flake off. YIKES!!!!
No I haven’t gotten any reply yet. My inlay on the fretboard is cracked and/or missing pieces as well. Hope I can get some replacement parts somewhere.
:hey just found the web site i also have this guitar a 1976 with the same problem the pick guard is cracked. let me know if you guys find anything
You are looking at to much money to repair these guitars for their value, as they are worth around 300 to 450 if they are in good condition. The repairs on these guitars could run you a couple hundred dollars, even upwards of 300.00 to 400.00, So unless you intend to have them repaired to keep them for sentimental value, I would not spend that much money on them. Even if you spend the money to repair them, there is no quarentee that you will sell them. I see these often just sitting on ebay and craigslist with no hits on them.

Guess what my friends!!!Hold on to this guitar….it’s going up in value….it is being sought after by collectors for it’s asthetics’…and man made value! It is a beautifully made guitar or else Gibson would not have sued the maker!!It has been under valued for years! As a lover of the Gibson Dove…which i own several, i have one of these which i know is a ripoff….but i love it’s sound and quality also …..know you have a treasure of time and appreciate it!! I do, and if you knew who I was….i would get into trouble for just making that statement…..ENJOY !

i have a 5024 model that i received as a Christmas present from my parents in 1977(they purchased two–one for my brother also) i love this guitar–nice feel, nice tone, good action and the look is beautiful have had many compliments on it over the years
I’m going on 35 and have had this thing since i was 5 or 6.
been through every step of life with it.
got a question though. did anyone elses have t-omatic style bridge? if not, whoever my dad got this from had it rigged.
sorry if its been addressed, but i’ve not enough time to read all the post.
That bridge is Alvarez’ copy of the late 60’s Gibson Dove Bridge which was very similar. Interesting Note: The pickguard on the Alvarez Dove is exactly the same (poor Gibson match) as my 1977 Cortez Dove guitar. A much higher quality matched pickguard is available on e-bay for about $11, and is virtually identical to the Gibson Dove pickguard, except for the mother of pearl dove. The Alvarez Dove is higher quality than my Cortez Dove, that said, I’ve enjoyed the Cortez for 31 years now.
I recently purchased one of these in less than perfect shape and was at first dissapointed, however after sending it to my guitar tech it has become one of my most favorite ones to play. And I ahve quite a few. He told me that they are solid built and are great guitars. Mine appears to be a 69 model with the tuneamatic bridge and individual saddles. I had them and the nut replaced when I took it in and I have loved it ever since. It does have a few battle scars, most likely play in a bar band but this also gives it a lot of character. This baby has seen some serious play time. But I doubt I could ever bring myself to sell it.: Tis guitar was left to me by my father in law. Does anyone know a value on it? (Originally posted 09:45:21 2/18/06)
I bought an Alvarez Dove back in 1976. I had to part with due to needing money to help out finacially about two years later. I kicked myself for selling it for 25+ years. 3 years ago I ran into some extra cash and saw a Dove on Ebay. I put a maximum bid of $750 on it but won it for 275. It had a "ding" on it that recognized. As it turned out, after I got it, I ran the numbers back with the music store that I purchased mine from. Can you believe this? It came back as me being the original buyer when it was new! It was out of my hands for 27 years. I had to do some work on it. The tunematic bridge was m
issing parts. I bought a brass bridge off of Ebay and replaced the damaged one. It need a lot of cleaning and the neck had to be adjusted. I have recently replaced the bridge pins with brass abalone pins. I have taken it with me to several guitar shops and have yet to find any guitar that has the tone and sustain that my Dove has. I have vowed to never part with it again. I have a few other acoustic guitars including, Takamine, Fender and an older Taylor and my Dove is still my favorite. If anyone has an Alvarez Dove, I recomend that they hang onto it. Someday, these guitars will be worth far more than they sell for on Ebay. I was offered $950 for mine and didn’t even give the offer a second thought when I said NO deal.
Keep your Dove and enjoy!
Hi, i also have a 5024 but i have a question. does any les paul tunematic bridge fit on this guitar? i read that you replaced yours. mine was missing when i bought the guitar for 50 bucks, just an empty space.
i hear these guitars sound great and i am anxious to get it going. any info you may have regarding this would be greatly appriciated. thanks!
Does anyone know the scale length on a 5024 dove?
Thank you,
Peter

JJ here. JANARAE…..if you have a ’64 alvarez, you better not ever sell it. Reason? Alvarez didn’t go into buisness til 1965. so you have a very rare find. better double check your info. If you have a dove it could be a 74…..NOT 64

And my two cents..
You can buy a mint Gibson Dove for cheaper than that.. easily.
I doubt the Japanese made Alvarez is worth more than the Gibson.
I own one as well. Don’t know what the value is, but I wouldn’t sell mine for any amount of money. It is totally in mint condition. I learned to play guitar on it. It was my grandpa’s guitar. I do know they were in production at minimum in 1967, as I have a picture playing the one I have taken in 67 when I was four years old. Mine is serial 1833.
I think it is of better quality, sounds better, and has better action than the Gibson original Dove. It’s a very nice guitar, I love it, but wouldn’t put it above a Martn.
I was wondering how you came up with that value. I also own one and I haven’t been able to find the value of it. I looked in the Guitar blue book, but it doesn’t have a listing for this model.
Thanks,
Gary

: Tis guitar was left to me by my father in law. Does anyone know a value on it? I am wondering if I need to get it insured. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I owned a guitar like this. I bought it in 1973. It was one of the best guitars I’ve ever owned and regret selling it.
Originally, in 1973 dollars, it sold for aroung 275.00. A few bucks back then. Insure it if you want. IT IS IRREPLACEABLE.
I bought my Alvarez 5024 back in 1977 and paid
350 dollars for it back then.
There is one just like it on E-bay. The bid is
at $345 with four days left. The item # is
3729440595 with a lot of photos.
I would also like to know what the value is.
If anyone knows; please let me know.
Tks,
Don

Michael,
I own this guitar. I purchased it in 1980 at a guitar shop in Minneapolis, Minnesota. I love the sound it produces. I joke with my children that "it was my baby before they were my babies" 🙂 When I purchased it it was close to $500.00. I have since been offered quite a bit more for it than the price I paid. Due to the fact that this particular model could be considered a collector’s item, It could be worth quite a bit to the right buyer. This guitar was my 18th birthday present from my parents. I started playing when I was 10 yrs. old. I keep it in a humidified case, and I’ve only had to have the action on it fixed once. It’s a beautiful guitar and I get many compliments on it when I play. I hope you enjoy it.

Mint condition. Rosewood back. Diamond by tuner. Not one scratch. I think 1976. How much is this worth. Made in Japan. Alvarez Dove. Beautiful guitar.
I HAVE HAD AN ALVAREZ DOVE FOR ABOUT 34 YEARS – VINTAGE 1972 I THINK. IT’S IN VERY GOOD SHAPE, BUT PART OF THE MOTHER OF PEARL DOVE IS MISSING AND THE PICKGUARD IS CRACKED. DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE I CAN PURCHASE AN ORIGINAL PICKGUARD FOR IT?
I just picked up one of these today and in looking inside with a mirror I noticed there is a bolt from the neck through a hole in the body of the guitar. It has the tune-o-matic bridge which also has bolts holding it on. I can find no serial number except for a yellow label glued inside. There is a date and the model number stamped on the Alvarez label, but no other numbers visible on the inside of the guitar including the sound hole, the heel of the neck or any other exposed areas inside the guitar. Questions: #1 Where can I find specific information about the construction of the 5024 that explains the bolts inside on the neck and the bridge? #2 Where can I find a replacement saddle piece for one of that is chipped?
Just bought this guitar today. Love it. With only knowing the model & serial #’s, is there anyway know the year this guitar was made? Is it ’70?
Thanks,
Matt Warren
It should say a manufacturers date right after the model n serial numbers
I purchased this guitar in the 70’s. It has rarely been used and we re-conditioned a couple years ago. They said that they had never seen one in this good of shape. The model is 5024 but there is no serial number next to it.It also has the original hard case. I am trying to find out how much it is worth and possibly sell it. I can’t find any on Ebay. Can anyone help?
I BOUGHT THIS X135 AT A FLEA MARKET FOR $5.OO, ARE THEY GOOD, WHAT ARE THEY WORTH?
Any idea what this guitar is worth? Is there a web site that has pictures, history, etc of older guitars?
my Alvarez 5024 was apraised at $800 U.S.
I need to know the approximate value of a Alvarez hand crafted classic guitar. Model number 5002, made in 1986. Im hoping to sell to friend but need to know how much its worth. Any input would be great. thanks
How can I find out how much my mint condition Alvarez 5024 Ser No. 85208 is worth?
I wish I could find out also. I also purchased a mint 5024 with the dove pickguard, tunable bridge and the inlayed frets. The original owner said he paid $330.00 for it back in the late 60’s. There doesnt seem to be much info. available on this model.
I recently purchase this guitar at a pawn shop. Would like to find out the date is was manufactured. Can anyone help….thanks…Jack
I have an Alvarez Yairi model 5075 that has 1973 printed inside as the year. Hope that helps.

: does anyone have info on an Alvarez 5080N acoustic/electric?
hey tommy,
I own a 5080n and play it everyday and in church on sunday.
It’s very playable but lacks something in tone, but at the time a bought it (3yrs ago) it was a step up for me.
I’m ready to step up again though.
I’ve been having some problems breaking strings, mostly the
G. I need to check my saddle. I use elixers.
All in all it’s a decent guitar for the money.
jeff
I have one in perfect condition the serial number is 00210
What is it worth?
I own one. It is an Acoustic Electric. I padi $500.00+ in the mind 1980’s.
Still plays great.
Hi!! I was wondering about a guitar I was going to buy. The model number is wy-1, it’s in great condition, the neck looks great, and i was just wondering what it would be appraised for. Thank you for you help!!

How can I find out what my alvarez 5024 s/n 21836 is worth?
: How can I find out what my alvarez 5024 s/n 21836 is worth?
190 to 240 US $
Joe, how did you come up with a value of $190 to $240 US? I have a 1970 Dove in really excelent condition that was appraised for $1,450 – paid $250 for it new in 1970. Personally, I would pay $240 all day long and buy just as many as I could get my hands on for that price. This guitar is simply unreplaceable and sounds a hell of a lot better than my ’70 Martin D18, ’72 D35 or my ’72 Gibson Hummingbird. like I said I would buy them all day long for that kind of money – – –
: : How can I find out what my alvarez 5024 s/n 19657 is worth? Is there any area dealers that would have a bridge for me .Is a brass bridge available? Is there a chance you would have list prices available & is this available direct from you? what is the lead time.

I too have an Alvarez 5023 guitar Got mine around 1971 in Mason City Iowa Have a De Armond pickup on the sound hole. This guitar is awesome!!! Its action and tone will beat many Martin hd28s!!!
Suggest you try to find a DeArmond pickup yourself
the vintage soundhole of course and find a vntage Fender Princeton Reverb amp!!! Then Mike it throgh your Main PA with a Roland Chorus pedal effect and watch the audience weep!!!!! Mike Murphy Waterloo
