did you ever find out about your guitar? i’ve had a old guitar which says K320 on the inside in a white rectangle, but theres no other logos to identify it from. It looks very old though
I´ve got a K-320 which was built by Musima in the GDR. Mahagoni painted body was for the export to Western Germany/Berlin (yellow/green label with oval), walnut colour for UK (white label with böacl letters).
Musima closed the doors forever in summer of 2004.
The head has the Vintage wave form, the pickguard is golden printed.
The nylon sister is the KC-333.
You find the Musima-Kay-guitars sometime by ebay.de.
Kay said the K-320 was built in the early 70s the time where Kay was closed and before it was new founded.
The Kay models were built in Korea and GDR.
I know from pictures another K-320, the head with corners, the pickguard unprinted.
I know two other guitar players with Musima-K-320. I bought also these old guitars.
All player like this guitars, also the Francemen.
I can send also more infomation and also pictures.
i have just bidded and won a k320 for £16 stirling.
is this ok i wonder as only know what you on here have told us. would love to know if i got a bargain or getting ripped off.
the history is interesting.
any more info would be much appresiated?
I think £16 is pretty good for any old but well-looked after instrument that’s no longer being made. I bought one with the gig bag for £20 yesterday. That particular instrument was about 26 years old and had been sitting in a warehouse for about 5 years, so needed a little work but I’m pretty pleased. Considering that some instruments that are nowhere near as nice sell for a fortune, I think this is a fair price. But a fair price is only ever one YOU’RE happy with

i have a k320 acoustic guitar which i,m led to believe was my fathers that he purchased in the 50s.does any know the age & value of this guitar? i dont want to sell it but it be nice to know its history & insurance value.
I’ve got a K320 acoustic guitar that I’m giving to my son. The tuners need replacing and I wondered if anyone knew where I could get hold of a second hand set.
Also, while researching this I’ve noticed that all the others I’ve seen tend to have the top, back and neck made of two parts of wood, whereas with mine the top and back are made of a single piece of wood and the neck I presume is made of a single piece of wood that has been routed for the truss rod and a wooden infill applied. This infill is also apparent on the front of the headstock. Were there different models of the K320? Or is this to do with different manufacturing processes changing over the years.
Is there a site out there that has photos of Kay products and the model #’s.
I know what I like, but don’t know what they are. I’m new to this.

: I have an old Kay acoustic guitar and I would like to know its age and value. The style number is K 7020 The Classic guitar.
I have one too, my brothers fixed it up as our house was rough on it during the Sixties. I received it in 1981 and neglected to really play it untill about two years ago. The action was pretty high. I replaced both the nut and the saddle with ones I hand made from deer antler. The strings sat lower and "buzzed" against one fret, but a little careful filing took care of that. I cleaned it inside and out. A fair amount of dust bunnies. After several kinds of [nylon only] string I have settled on some from Martin. I have to say that it sounds like rich cream with a tone and resonating quality I don’t hear from any of the Chinese or Asian imports at all. The 7020 was made in Chicago in the Sixties, and perhaps fifties and seventies too, but I am not sure. From what I can tell on mine, and from research I have done, the front seems to be (sitka?) spruce, judging from the color and pattern, and rosewood on the fretboard and bridge. They come up for sale on ebay regularly. I am assuming that people selling them don’t do what they need to to make them really produce the sound they are capable of. I have read some people’s posts and, like mine, some 7020’s have a millimeter of space peeking out between the joint which holds the neck to the body opposite the fretboard. I love mine for classical playing and wouldn’t part with it for anything. But you can find them for 50-150 dollars. I would suggest keeping yours and buying a few 7020’s. Once people get sick of Chinese knockoffs the demand for the old American craftsmanship from Chicago will raise the price on these desirable guitars. I am looking for another one to fix up with a Mammoth ivory nuts and saddle which I will make specifically for the right Kay 7020, providing I like the look of the spruce. I have noticed that some seem to have a light wood top without the long grain of the spruce top on mine, but can’t comment on what I haven’t handled. I hope this helps.

I just got a project guitar and I need some help finding out what model it is. Double cut away archtop, dot inlays, no pups, tailpiece 2 f-holes. I can email pics for help.
i havew an old kay bass w/ a brass k simbol on the headstock it had a hollow body and t modern looking torticeshell pickgard w/ one pickup-any info on this bass or value ?
Need info desperately on old kay, mint…yes mint condition has lyre shaped sound hole (harpshaped) never had strings on it….it is beautiful….dont know model, value anything…any input would be greatly appreciated. rich
I have an old Kay acoustic and would like to know what year it may have been built. It has L 5641 stamped on the inside of the hole and has the metal Kay logo on the head. The guitar body is shaped like a Hummingbird, square shoulder. Thanks.
Mike
Also, it has a very unusual bridge. The strings are pushed through holes in the bridge from the sound hole side to the tail end then are bent back over the bridge nut piece and up the neck.

: I recently bought a classic guitar by kay – model 7010. I was wondering if anyone knew something about it – when it was made, etc.
: Thanks.
Hi,
I have a classic guitar by kay-model number 7010. It belonged to my father who passed away in 1974. My mom said that when they got married in 1969, he already owned it. She thinks he had had it for several years. I have not been able to find any information on this model. If you are able to, please e-mail me and let me know. I’m very interested in knowing how old it is and what the monetary value is. Of course, for me, the senimental value is priceless.

I have this kay model 7010 classical guitar made in elk grove ill. does anyone know what years they were built? it is rather well built with rosewood finger board and bridge–looks like bone nut and saddle–the headstock is martin knock off–looks like tourtise shell binding on top– no binding on back–the only issue it has is some moron put steel strings on it and put it in the closet for 30 years where a mouse made a home in it–the bridge is lifting–no belly problem–i see the bridge plate extends all the way to the bottom with no other braces in that area–it is made in north by god america-so i would like to know as much about it as i can find out-i dont care about value–it aint for sale. thank you for your help
I have a Weltron. Have had it for over 40 years. Bought it either before I went to Vietnam or while I was there. I am going to have the bridge repaired, other than that it is in good shape. I want to keep the guitar, but I am interested in the history of the company. It hasn’t been played much because I have other guitars. This guitar has been through quite a bit. I never remember having a case for it, and yet, it has stood the test of time.
I have an old weltron acoustic guitar in very good shape if you are interested in buying please call,me was getting ready to sell to pawn shop, need the money if you’re interested please call me soon at 434-316-3637
I have a Welltron from Danville, 60’s style parlor acoustic. The entire guitar seems to be made out of bird’s eye maple, including the laminated neck. I am restoring it and it will be for sale soon. Let me know if you are interested. I would sell it for a reasonable price, as it is getting a face-lift. Thanks
Randy
I had a Weltron Electric that I bought at Colgate Music in Chase City, Va. in the mid-60’s. I kept the guitar and played it until around 1970. The guitar played well and sounded great especially when I hooked it up to a new Fender Super Reverb I bought in 1967 at Walter D. Moses music company in Richmond.
I sold the quiter to a pawn shop and alas I have never been able to find another. This one looked very similar to a Fender Stratocaster, brilliant red with a pearl white pickguard. Rocker switches were used to control the pickups (there were two – a neck and bridge) and it had a vibrata bar. Chrome knobs and hardware.
If anyone knows where one can be found, I’d really appreciate it if you would let me know. It was a really wonderful instrument!
Thanks,

I once had a Weltron Guitar. It was purchased for my sister in the mid sixties and became mine as a hand-me-down. Unfortunatly it was stolen / lost in a move in 1981. The lable inside the guitar indicated it was made in Danville VA… if my memory serve me right.

Hi, I was interested in history of this guitar and if I should sell or keep? Was gifted to me a while ago and forgot about it until I started clearing out my climate controlled storage unit. It sounds amazing and has been in hard case that came with it, not sure if original one but its dated and serves its purpose. Please contact me back when you’re able to get the history and value of this guitar. Thank you for your time, respectfully, KC

I have a hollow body, red sunburst my Dad left me when he passed, says 514E Peabody steet durham n.c. 919 682 8093 and has stamped # 4471 inside. has some kind of vine plant painted on the guard,Pearl inlays on fret board like triangles facing away from each other. sounds good with old strings, will try new coated type strings and should sound surprising. I would like to know anything more someone could provide.
I came upon my guitar in around 1958. I dont know how old it was at that time. I played it very little but kept it safe until the present time. It says ” Weltron Company, 513 Wilson St. Danville, Va. ” Inside. Its got a few scratches on it but otherwise looks very good and sounds great when played well. Any background or ifo about it would be appreciated. Thank you. ATV
I ran across your question on the Internet. I also have a Welton guitar from Danville, Va. I don’t play but I’ve had this single I was a kid- I probably got it in the mid-60s. Did you find out any information on it?

I got a Weltron electric guitar for Christmas in 1970. It was a hollow body sunburst with 3 pickups I believe. It came from an electronics store in Danville Va. called Womack Electronics. I remember going there and picking out this guitar as a 10 yr. old kid. I also remember there being some acoustic guitars there as well. There was one that was a copy of a Gibson Hummingbird. I remember the pickgaurd with the Hummingbird on it and a sunburst color.I remember really liking the looks of it. My Weltron is long gone, being sold by my dad years after I gave up playing but I would really love to have it back or at least see one once again.
I have a Weltron acoustic Guitar that I picked up in a Pon Shop in Kentucky about 1970……….I play it all the time, love it! It is red and has a Hummbird pick Gard. It was made in Durham, N.C. id.# inside is 14417. Just like to know more History on it. [email protected]

Where can I find information on elderly Kay guitars? I have an acoustic Kay from approximately ’54/’55, just bought it, it sounds awesome. Not in very good shape, but all origional w/ exception for the inlay (some of them little rectangle dealies apparently came out, so they were filled in with what looks to be an old type of glue). I have pics, but they aren’t on the net, so in order to see it I’d hafta send it through msn or somethin. Thanks, cya~

I just bought an Kay Deluxe 30 Acoustic Archtop, that fits the same descriptio as the Deluxe 20. Mine also has no serial number. It has a very ornate mother-of-toilet seat headstock the says "Kay Deluxe" with a 30 below it with a gold leaf design. Its similar in style to the headstock of a 1930 Kay Kraft style-B, I also have. The Deluxe 30 has two F-holes, 14 frets to the body–19 total. It came with a leopard style pickguard that I think is original.. Does anyone know anything about these guitars?

Hi all, I bought one second hand in 1986, a real prized posession as my arthritic fingers love the narrow fingerboard! Its working great apart from the "headphones out" socket which has never worked. I would suggest trying to find an electronics technician/engineer who would have been working in the 70’s/80’s (now probably in their 50’s/60’s)who might recognise the components and the wiring. You’ve probably tried lubricating the noisy pots, I don’t think replacements would be easily found, would new ones work?

A few of these have been selling on ebay recently so surely someone must be able to help!! My email is [email protected] any help, however small gratefully appreciated

Hi. As a follow up, I’m wondering if anyone ever did find a wiring circuit diagram for these guitars? I have managed to get two out of the three I’ve got working, but the last will not work!! Driving me crazy. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Barry, whilst round a friends house – last night in fact he pulled one of these very guitars out. Fantastic condition but a couple of the pots were crackling when you turned them. Unfortunatley I don’t have a wiring diagram but he is going to be bringing the guitar in to the place I work for a set – up and general spruce up so I’ll keep you posted.

Greetings. Like Jogga, I have one of these guitars in working order, but seem to be suffering from a few of the same problems, i.e. crackling pots and effects that work, but not terribly well. Have had it since 1984 (Bought second hand).
If there is any advance on the wiring diagram, I would appreciate a copy or link to it. Feel free to use the e-mail address.

I just open the effects controls on my guitar ana blck wire came off as well as one side or wire of the big capacitor..Any one knows how to reconnect this.. diagrams, pictures please.. Black wire is not from the battery, it seem to come from a pickup. Thanyou very much…
I also have this model guitar with scratchy pots and malfunctioning effects. Looking for a wiring diagram though I think it’s really a lost cause – no one fixes these kinds of circuits anymore.
I am having problems getting Mine to put out ANY sound… Does anyone have any “REAL” wiring diagram for this?? or even Pictures?
I Have seen the “Home-Made” Diagram floating around, but it is all over the place and is even missing the “Pickup Wires” themselves in the diagram…. Really would Love to get this Guitar up & running. We Run a Professional Recording Studio Out here in AZ and this would be a Prize piece to have on hand!

Hello Dan, if you still have the wiring diagram for the Kay LP effects or I would appreciate an email copy. What I can see is maybe the battery wires?? But I don’t know where to attach them. Thanks, Jim the unattached wires are red and black.
Hello Dan, was wondering if you could send me the wiring for the kay guitar? I picked one up at a auction and the speaker is missing and there are a lot of wires not connected. would appreciate any help with it .. thank you, Bob
Hi, I saw in a post here you may have a schematic for a Kay Effector. I’m in the process of rebuilding one for a friend and really could use this. Is it possible to email it?
Thank You,
Harold
I cannot figure out where to hook up the battery leads. I bought one of these effects panels off of ebay for $64.00 and installed them in a vintage first act lp guitar. So far the project looks cool but no effects. If i could even have a close up pic of one properly wired would be a great help. Hope to hear from someone soon.
Thanks so much,
John
The black wire can hook into any common ground e.g. the uninsulated wire running through all the effects switches. The red can hook into a pass through hot e.g. a red on the amp input. The EFFECT/ON/OFF must be on, of course to use the effects. AFAIK the unlabeled switch activates TREMOLO when it and the ECHO switch are on, the WAH is activated when the unlabeled and WHIRLWIND switches are on and ECHO off.

I have this old Kay accoustic that I’ve been playing for years, many of which I’ve spent looking for a model or serial number! Where the heck did Kay stick it? No idea how old it is, but I bought it used in 1968. Anybody help?
I’ll need a picture of it but I bet I can figure it out. I’ll do my best.

: I have just been given a Kay K-320 guitar, does anyone have any info about this model please
well, as far as i was told, my one is around 60 years old, it’s from a famous campany back in the 50-60s but they stopped in the late 70s, i dont know is this is true or not, but it was told by a nice elderly man. this guitars arnt no cheep stuff, its high-class, its aimed at students and profesionals, i would say by now they should be worth a lot. i canrt really give it a price, but it’s not cheep.
I´ve got a K-320 built by Musima in Markneukirchen/GDR. Two other good friends bought also a K-320 across me.
The guitars´ve a head with Vintage wave form and a golden printed pickguard.
The models for the export to Western Gemany/Berlin have got a mahagoni coloured body, a green printed label with yellow background and an oval. K-320s for the UK have a walnut brown body, a white label with black letters. The decor on the hole is also different between UK and W.Germany/Berlin.
I know another simple model, the head has corners, the pickguard is unprinted, the riff board ain´t got an arc on the hole.
The Kay info is K-320 was built in the early 70s.

The model number is: K550N , and it was made in korea
It has a double pickguard, with a white dove with red roses on each side. the top has a light finish and the sides and back are dark. But there is a light strip down the back…
If anyone could tell me more about this guitar, such as the year it was made, how many were made, price, and just general background, I would greatly appreciate it

It great condition, it’s worth between $100 and $300 depending on the market right now. They’re amazing guitars, they’re just not sought after at the moment.

I just bought a lovely 1950s Kay sunburst with unbelievable tone and playability. I can send a few pics if ur still interested. im trying to find out the exact year and model number of the guitar. ilove it!
I would be interested in knowing where to get information also. I have a beginners archtop that I had repaired (neck seperated, bridge cut, bad keys). I was told that Kay didn’t start using serial numbers until 1940 and this one doesn’t have serial number. Model first made in 1932 so I am wanting to confirm age and value. Any ideas or comments?

I have an old 50’s or possibly earlier Kay pressed solid archtop acoustic. Fully proffesionaly restored with trussrod. Has all it’s age character. Is in top condition. Plays and sounds good. Would like to show pictures and correspond with knowledgable and interested people.
I just read Tom’s post where he mentions coils and strat style. Mine is an acoustic guitar. Perhaps Kay commnly denoted K-102 for several series of guitars and styles?
I have this model guitar. It is a keepsake for me as it was owned by my Father. I can state with certainty that the model was made before 1960. I know this because my Father graduated highschool in 1957, and died in a plane crash in Guam returning from military service in 1960.
My Dad also owned a Hawaiian steel slide guitar with a tube amp. I assume he started out on the Kay model K-102 before graduating to the Hawaiian guitar. He was stationed in Hawaii in the Navy. I was born in the Kapiolani Hospital on the Island of Oahu in 1959 while he was stationed there. I do not play guitar but my son who is 29 plays well. I like to think there is magic transferred through the generations across these strings.
I hope this info is helpful. Anyone that has any info to pass to me can feel free to email from my new website http://www.woodchuckpirate.com , sincerely Raymond

Recently I came across an Old Kraftsmen solid body electric guitar that resembles a Fender Stratocaster. It has duel pick-ups and was originally gold and black. It has some incomplete hardware that I am unfamiliar with and I’m not sure if this was due to modification at some point or if it’s missing some parts. Anything I can learn about this guitar would be greatly appreciated, I would like to get it up and playable as close to original as possible I understand that this is not a very valuable item but it’s a project I would like to complete non the less. Thanks Rob

Help... Vintage Kay? No Model number - just serial number
Harmony
Recently bought this old 6 string parlour guitar – believed to be a 1940’s Kay or Harmony. What I can make out on the inside is, "31931929" The 2 digits I’m confused about are the one’s in the serial number – they’re faded, but they kind of look like the nunber 1. Perhaps they’re letters. I have pics if anyone might know. Thanks.

I would like information on my Dad’s old Kay. There is a number on the inside of the guitar. L60098858 is the number. I think it was made in the 1940-1950 year range. Do you have any information on it?

He was telling me about a 59′ Kay guitar said it was strat style with a strat type headstock and the kay symbol in the headstock. Also it was blue color. I can’t really find anything on it but he also said it had the spring loaded tremelo system. If anyone has any information on this guitar please drop me a line at my email. did you ever find out about your guitar? i’ve had a old guitar which says K320 on the inside in a white rectangle, but theres no other logos to identify it from.
Greetings from France
ive got a acoustic k-320 guitar i bought in a auction if anyone knows of its age or value plz email me its a kay brand 320 thx
i have just bidded and won a k320 for £16 stirling.
is this ok i wonder as only know what you on here have told us. would love to know if i got a bargain or getting ripped off.
the history is interesting.
any more info would be much appresiated?

Also, it has a very unusual bridge. The strings are pushed through holes in the bridge from the sound hole side to the tail end then are bent back over the bridge nut piece and up the neck.

Thanks

An old parlor acoustic guitar with lot’s of class, it also had lots of laquer on it and was a mess when I received it. After giving it a complete work over I am selling it soon for a reasonable price, Thank you

I just bought an acoustic guitar made by Weltron,it apears to be very old still sounds good and plays good.Label says it was made in Danville,V.A. Send me an e-mail at [email protected] and i can send you pictures…….
I have one for sale.

I am the fourth owner of this guitar. I just don’t really know what the modle or anything of it is.

This popular thread has been given its own page : Kay Les Paul copy with onboard effects – wiring/circuit diagram

My guitar shop dude is having problems getting this thing fully working, can anyone provide a wiring diagram or point me in the right direction, any other websites/Kay enthusiasts I could contact to try and get this fixed?

Hi all. I also have one in working condition. If I can help in anyway give me a shout at the email address. Jogga
If anybody has a “wiring diagram” (and/or ID info) for this guitar I would very much appreciate a copy. Thanks for any help. The diagram can be e-mail to the above e-mail address or sent to me at: 739 Simstown Road; Evening Shade, AR 72532 (870-568-7414).
Hi Jogga
I would really appreciate if you could share that wiring/circuit diagram with me. If possible, please email it to [email protected]
Thanks!
Don
Cheers

I just open the effects controls on my guitar ana blck wire came off as well as one side or wire of the big capacitor..Any one knows how to reconnect this.. diagrams, pictures please.. Black wire is not from the battery, it seem to come from a pickup. Thanyou very much…
I also have this model guitar with scratchy pots and malfunctioning effects. Looking for a wiring diagram though I think it’s really a lost cause – no one fixes these kinds of circuits anymore.
I have someone who can fix these kinds of circuits but he still could use a schematic.

Hi all … my Dad pick one of these up at a garage sale years ago, and the effects never worked. I opened it up recently and several of the wires were disconnected from the circuitboard and switches. If there is a schematic floating around, I would appreciate a copy – [email protected].
Thanks!

I got a Kay Effector in a trade. I got the guitar where it will play but I cannot get the effects to work. Would you be able to send me a copy of the wiring diagram for the guitar? I would appreciate it very much.

Hi,
If any of you would have a wiring diagram or schematics for this guitar, I would greatly appreciate if you could e-mail me.
Thank you in advance!
Don F.
I too am in need of a little assistance. I recently bought a Cory effector effects panel and I’m not sure how to hook up the 9v… Any assistance is greatly appreciated! My email is [email protected].
i have a kay resonator. i inherited it from my father. i am having a difficult time finding any information on it. i believe it may be from the 30’s just based on a picture i saw of one on the internet. the head stock says kay kraft. any information or direction you may give me would help:)
I’ll do my best.

well, as far as i was told, my one is around 60 years old, it’s from a famous campany back in the 50-60s but they stopped in the late 70s, i dont know is this is true or not, but it was told by a nice elderly man. this guitars arnt no cheep stuff, its high-class, its aimed at students and profesionals, i would say by now they should be worth a lot. i canrt really give it a price, but it’s not cheep.

Hey I just got one of those 2. Have you found anything out yet about it. All I know is that it was made in Korea, not sure when.

It has a double pickguard, with a white dove with red roses on each side. the top has a light finish and the sides and back are dark. But there is a light strip down the back…
If anyone could tell me more about this guitar, such as the year it was made, how many were made, price, and just general background, I would greatly appreciate it

: It has a double pickguard, with a white dove with red roses on each side. the top has a light finish and the sides and back are dark. But there is a light strip down the back…
: If anyone could tell me more about this guitar, such as the year it was made, how many were made, price, and just general background, I would greatly appreciate it
if you recieve any info on this guitar could you pass it on to me as i have just bought exactly the same model. many thanks. Dean

i wish to know how and where buy a archtop acoustic/electric vintage kay hollowbody? i send a photo if u need… thanks and sorry for my english
This popular thread has been given its own page : Kay Starter Series Model K-102
I just read Tom’s post where he mentions coils and strat style. Mine is an acoustic guitar. Perhaps Kay commnly denoted K-102 for several series of guitars and styles?
Hi I have the same thing need info. also
I have this model guitar.
Hi I have the same model and can’t seem to find info on it.

Thanks Rob

KAY Gibson Les Paul Electric Guitar…model designation K-30 and serial number 80924021…looks just like the Gibson Les Paul Deluxe model.

Hey i was just talking to a gentleman that comes in to my store all the time.
