Hi
I’m about to buy a semi-acoustic guitar, and probably it will be a Seagull.. And I played already on a Seagull s6 + Burst GT, and I really liked the sound and comfort and the rest, but I really would like to have one with a cutaway.I played on a S6+CW Folk, But that one didn’t have enough bass, so I was wondering, does the S6+CW Cedar have an equal sound to the S6+Burst GT??or does the cutaway take away the great sound that the s6+Burst GT has?Let ùe know what you think..

This popular thread has been given its own page : Need advice – 3 small acoustic options
I got the Alvarez RP20S. I like the small size for ease of holding. It doesn’t have a lot of bass to my ear. But I still like the sound. It’s big advantage is comfort. Seems to be a simple, well-made guitar. I may put a bone saddle in it someday and see what that does for the sound.
Looking for a guitar my wife can learn on that I will also feel comfortable playing. 3/4 size is a little too small, but "grand auditorium" seems about right.
I’m looking primarily at 3 guitars and wondered if anyone here had an feedback on them:
1. Fender GA45S – Grand Auditorium size (roughly same as the Taylor Big Baby). Solid spruce top, solid rosewood back, laminate rosewood side. Gloss finish. Die-cast gold tuners. Bound fingerboard. Found one new for a little under $300. List, apparantly, is around $750. From reading reviews, most folks have paid over $500 used. Seems like a great deal. Haven’t actually played this one, but I have tried a lower grade version (laminated back and sides, fingerboard not bound, lower-grade tuners) of the same guitar, and even that one sounded pretty good. I imagine this one would sound better. Guitar is located about 1.5 hours from me. Was suprised to like a Fender accoustic.
2. Seagull Artist Grand. Parlor size. Solid Cedar top. Solid rosewood back. Laminate sides. Gold tuners. Gloss lacquer finish. Can’t quite figure out a price on the Artist Grand. I’ve played around with the standard Grand (again, slightly lesser materials) and was not as impressed as a number of the reviews I’ve read seem to be. Maybe I picked up one of the few duds put out by Seagull. Seemed smaller than the Fender to me (maybe closer to 3/4 size?), but I don’t know the exact specs on sizes of these guitars. I’m a little confused on the Parlor vs Grand Auditorium thing, and the names don’t really help clear it up (Seagull’s is called a "Grand," for instance).
3. Alvarez RP20S. Parlor size. Solid Spruce top. I think the back and sides are laminated Mahogony (but they could be solid, I guess). Overall, I like Alvarez. I recently bought an Alvarez 3/4 size (MSD1) for my son, and that is one incredible little guitar (solid spruce top, solid mahogony back and sides). This one, though, is from the Regent series, which is Alvarez’s entry-level. I’m wondering if it is essentially a lower-grade version of the one I bought for my son (which was from the Masterworks series). I’m still a little unclear on size here. Also, not sure about price.
Seems to me the Fender is probably my best bet b/c the guitar needs to be a little bigger than 3/4, but not as big as a standard dreadnought. But maybe I’m wrong about the sizes. I’ve held the cheaper version of the Fender and the cheaper version of the Seagull. I really like Seagull, but the cheaper Fender seemed better to me. Maybe it was a size issue (different shops on different days, so I’m not sure). Have not held the Alvarez listed above (but am amazed by the one my son has and really like Alvarez in general).
I have not been a big Fender fan, but maybe I’ve just been wrong about them. My brother showed me the cheaper Fender this past weekend (he usually plays a Taylor Big Baby, which just seems too weak on bass to me), and we both found ourselves pleasantly suprised.
Anyone have any feedback on these 3 guitars?
Thanks,
Mike

where can i find a seagull grand artist?
Just thought you’d like to know that who ever is bringing in Seagull Guitars to Australia has been very slack of late. It is very difficult, or near impossible, to buy a Seagull guitar. I have had one on order for a student on mine since July 2003. At first they said we’ll have it by September and they are now telling us December. Do you think that is good enough and in your company’s best interest? I certainly don’t. We are now considering cancelling the order and recommending an other brand. You may consider finding out who has the rights to importing Seagull Guitars to Australia and perhaps discontinuing their sole right. Over the years I have sold dozens of Seagull guitars and all my students love them; and sadly beacuse of this last experience I may now have to recommend an other brand. I just thought you should know. Thank you for your time. It was also very hard to find this email address. Perhaps on your web site have an email address where yuo have CONTACT provided.
Thanks, and hope this is helpful to your business

The CW stands for cutaway…the maple refers to the wood on the sides and back…flame maple perhaps? (rippled looking grain).
I had an identical guitar that was destroyed during a break in at my church. It was not an "artist series" guitar simply because the names have changed over the years…on seagull’s website you will find the "cameo" which in essence is likely the same guitar you have, save a few cosmetic and recent minor body style changes. <www.lasido.com>

Just some information on the Seagull. You can get the information from Godin Manufacturing. Godin is the company in Canada that makes the Seagull. It is an excellent guitar and I have been delighted with mine since the day I bought it . Godin has a website and lists the dealers that sell the Seagull. You ought to hear the 12 string they make it is great, and the price is where you can afford to have it.

I am in the market for a 6-string acoustic and am stuck between takamine or seagull. Looking for a full sounding cutaway. What are your thoughts?
I have almost no idea what the Taks are like, but I do own a Seagull. I bought it used. (Actually I’m on-line right now trying to get learn about what I have.) All I can say is that I love it! Great sound tone and quality.

SEAGULL- There is nothing better out there for your hard earned dollars!! Do make sure that you play some of their
"new models" that have the re-designed tops, and internal bracing, and a new semi gloss laquer finish. I played several models today, and they DO sound better than my current S6+CW. I really was impressed with the Rosewood/spruce CW Artist series with the new Baggs Ibeam/Duet electronics on board. HAPPY HUNTING!!!

Anyone know anything about this Texas guitar company/maker?
i have a seagull s6+cw. beautiful guitar, but i’m having trouble finding the right strings to compliment the guitar’s natural tone.
any suggestions?
Just picked the same guitar up two days ago. Also bought a set of D’Addario phospher bronze lights 0.30 on the first to 1.35 on the sixth they sound great. I tend to play a little heavy on the bottom side so I might change the 6th and 5th strings. The Seagull site said they ship with bronz phospher strings so I thought it was a logical choice. What do you think of the S6-CW. I havn’t been playing for the last ten years and just started back my other final choice was a Martin 000-M I took the Seagull and never looked back.
I heard that Seagull have a 20th anniversary series that is out now. Does anyone know something about this guitar. Thanks
I purchased the cedar model of this guitar in Montreal in July and it is a wonderful guitar. Beautiful finish, wonderful sound, (serious sound) and great feel. I paid under 400 anmerican for it and the guitar outshines most anything under a thousand that I have played.

I’ll second that notion – just got a spruce-top Anniversaire guitar. Love the looks of the flame maple and spruce with the gloss finish (especially the headstock treatment) and it SOUNDS incredible. Sharp, clear, and perfectly balanced (no bass boom) from a whisper to full volume, and it has PUNCH when you ask it to; this is one of the loudest acoustics I’ve heard.
I tried both cedar and spruce versions, and preferred the spruce; the cedar Anniversaire I tried (others may differ) sounded much like the S6+ Spruce, and I’ve already got a sweet, mellow cedar S6 that’s definitely from the top end of the bell curve, so spruce/maple was a nice contrast.

Hi – I’m looking to buy a guitar right now just for fun. I play already, mostly blues/rock. Although, I would like to learn some classical/fingerpicking styles. A buddy of mine suggested a Seagull……sounds like a good guitar. Does anyone have some advice for me??
check out the s6 folk model, you can pick them up second hand for a good price.. I owned one for 5 years, and it followed me every step of the way.. beautiful sound, especially for fingerpicking styles. go! buy one!!
This popular thread has been given its own page : seagull s6 cw flame maple
I just purchased one myself, and have heard that it an excellent instrument. The top is actually select pressure tested spruce. The sides, back, and neck are maple. The Headstock has a flame maple laminate that gives it a real distinct look. All around, a one of a kind guitar… I went and played one at firehouse guitars and plays extremely well. IT does not have the warmness that a cedar top and cherry sides deliver, but has a bright sound that replaces that anyday in my opinion. Coming from a person who has played seagulls all his life, you made an excellent purchase. -Dan

I am looking for a good beginner guitar that I will still want to play in a couple of years. I have narrowed down the search to Seagull M6 Gloss, Martin DM and Tacoma DM9. Everyone has a different opinion on which would be the best purchase. Does anyone have any recommendations? Seagull has a great price and gloss finish. Tacoma has solid back and sides and Martin has a great name. Which is best

—This is a tough one. I own a Martin DCM and love it. But I am looking at either a Norman or a Seagull 12 string both used. Tacoma I love the workmanship, but the lower ends of the Seagull and Martin are better.
I’ve been playing on and off for 15 years. I regularly play a Fender strat but wanted a really good acoustic. I spent several weeks hitting all the stores and playing a lot of different brands, but I bought the Seagull. It just felt and played right even over the high priced guitars.
Interesting, because I am trying to decide between a Tacoma PM-15 or PM-20 or a Seagull Grand Artist… If anyone has an opinion please shoot me an email… I’d like a good parlor guitar!
As far as your question… make sure to play all of them. I have a Seagull S6, while my brother has a Marin D-15. There’s really nothing to compare. I love my Seagull and think it’s the best bargain out there… however, the Martin D-15 blows it away! Martin’s are realy nice guitars. They have such great bass (dreadnaughts), they are hard to beat.
The Seagull, by far!!!!!
i am the proud owner of a seagull cw mahogany with lt baggs duet II pickup. i’ve used alot of other guitars, including martin, but i have to say, for the money, that the seagull is the best guitar i have ever owned
I’ve been "Plunking" on gituars for many years now. My kids have about wiped me out. Taken from my Fender all the way down to my Emiphone. The kids are gone now and I decided to get "ME" a guitar that will last me the rest of my life. After checking around, I got the seagull (M6).

I just got MY first guitar – Seagull M6 Gloss. Picked it up last week. I don’t think I could be happier with the value I got. I did a lot of research and tested many guitars. I am really pleased with the quality of the instrument and the sound in the M6 I recommend the Seagull.

Hello : I just bought a Seagull guitar – absolutely beautiful and sounds amazing. On their website however, my particular model isn’t listed. The Serial Number is 98374207. It is a cutaway guitar, and the tag inside says S6 CW Mahogany HG.
Anyone know anything ?

I am looking into buying that very guitar, only the serial number is 98374206.
Do you have any idea what the sticker price is?
Response: By Dan
I recently purchased the same style of guitar (S6 CW Mahogany HG)in Aug 2001. I love it! The sound is awesome and althought it doesn’t have all of the inlays like the Artist series guitars I actually like it better without. Before I purchased it i played a variety of brands that were higher priced including Martin, Taylor, etc. I even played three or so Seagull artist series guitars. Out of all the ones I played this one sounded as good or better then the rest and for the price there was no contest which guitar to go for expecially since the hard shell case was included.
Before I purchased the guitar though I did some inquiring about the guitar being S6 compared to the artist series as they were both the same price (something didn’t make much sense). What I found out is that this style of guitar is actually an older model like last years or something which came out before the company put their guitars into the three separate catagories, S series, M series, & Artist series. As it turns out this style of guitar is basically the same guitar as an artist series guitar WITHOUT the inlays. In other words it is just a step below the new artist series and was origionally considered as a higher end seagull guitars. If you didn’t know, the guitar has a solid cedar top, Solid mahogany back and neck with a rose wood fret board, and the sides are made of three layers of mahogany to prevent cracking and it also has a High Gloss (the HG on the Tag). A site I found while looking for info about this guitar is
http://www.nashvilleusedmusic.com/seagull.htm
If you go down to the artist series heading in bold there is a s6 cw mahogany which i believe is this guitar except with a spruce top. I hope this is what you were looking for and enjoy your guitar. I know I do.

I just saw a Godin Solidac in a pawn shop for $375
with hardshell case. It was in excellent condition
and played real nice.
I own a Godin Solidac, and it’s the nicest guitar I’ve ever played at any price. The only thing I’ll eventually do is replace the magnetic pickups with Joe Bardens and it’ll be the nicest guitar you could lay yer hands on!
: I am not sure about used prices, I have not seen any for sale, I believe players really hold on to the good brands and rarely give up a treasure. I just bought a Godin SD new and paid $349.00 not a bad price and $89.00 for a Godin hard shell case. I hope this information will help you decide if the asking price for the SD you are looking at is a bargin or not. Godin a quality product.

I just bought a 12 String guitar on EBAY with the name GRAND on it. Just type grand guitar in the search and you chould be able to find the store it came from. I just wondered if I bought a good one, did I?
I am looking to purchase one. Must have a 2" neck at nut.
I am looking to purchase one godin nylon-string acoustic-electric guitar with synth access (e.g., models: ACS-SA; Multiac SA; or Multiac grand concert SA). I would need the price and shipping cost to Fontana, CA.
Thank you in advance.

Hey Gene; Email or call me!
I have search for the price of my Godin St IV and I finally found one exactly like mine in a music store. They wanted 1200 can$ for it. I guess they are rare! I’ll send a pic of mine when I’ll have it.
Hi, I have a Godin Artisan ST VI and I would like to know the listing price of it. Can you help me?
Hello friend, I have an older Godin Artisan St. With a push pull trem. pot on it along with an extended tremelo bar. it has a folyd rose double locking bridge with many extras on it. I’m also looking for some sort of quote on it. Believe it or not I took it into a guitar shop today and they only offered me $200.00 bucks on trade in for it. but then I got online and found out that these guitars are all hand crafted ect. and one of the list prices I found was at $2399.00 for one. Then I found another at $1139.00 so be careful when dealing. I almost lost mine for $200.00 dollars. I tell you I’m printing up some of these other pages to take back to the store and show the guy that I didn’t like him trying to screw me out of it…..Gary Thomas Hoag of Project Jude. P.S. try typing in Artisan St in the search menu you’ll see what I’m talking about. Peace.

This popular thread has been given its own page : Re: I want a price…
I, too, have this guitar and will never sell it.
I have a Godin Artisan TC Signature a birdseye maple neck with ebony frets and mahogany body, the price on it was $1300US sold to me new for $600US the last day of a closing / out of business sale. The quality of this guitar was well worth at least $800-$1000US. A new maple US-made tele was going for $800. I think my godin tc plays better and the materials were exceptional. I feel lucky to have found this guitar. godin tc artisan all the way!

I have a mint 90’s TC as well. Quilted to the max. Got it off ebay about 6 years for..$310.00!!! (with original Godin case!). It’s mine forever!
I think we might have the same guitar. Mine was aquired from a friend of the family who owns the music chain, Walters Music in Ontario in 1999. I couldn’t believe the quality of the construction, and the smoothness of the neck. This guitar was priced originally in Canadian dollars to be $1800 Cd when we got it, but he gave us a really good deal, with a yamaha DG series amp. The two are simply phaenominal. I highly recommend, that to get the best sound out of your Godin artisan TC, invest in a Yamaha DG series amp, mines 80-120. I feel so lucky to have received this guitar as a gift, especially since they’ll never be made again. GODIN ARTISAN TC all the way for sure!
my Godin Artisan TC
i bought my artisan tc in canada last year used, for $350.00 canadian a real snip i believe they originally sold for $1200.00

Hi,

Thanks!

Eddie:
I live in Cheyenne, Wyoming, but I am told that at the Guitar Center off Colorado Blvd, you can find Seagull Guitars. If no luck there, I have seen and played them at The Music Maker in Loveland. There is also a Seagull dealer in Golden and Montrose, too. Good luck buddy.
Tony
If you still haven’t found them… go to the Musician’s Superstore (93rd and Sheridan)… they have many of the models.
I want to buy a Godin guitar, but I’ve only found 2 places on the internet (yes, out of the billion+ websites) that sell them.
They are http://www.juniorsmusic.com and http://www.fredsmusic.com.
Know of any others???
>>Know of any others???
Okay.. I don’t really like MARS Music all that much guitar wise, but they have started selling Godin guitars… they still don’t carry seagulls. But, if you have a MARS near you you can go in and play the Godins. I suggest that as I am not big on buying anything without playing it first.
Seagull/Godin are sold at http://www.hanoverstrings.com/
I have a multiac duet blue sunburst that i am wanting to sell because i want to buy an electric guitar. I’ve only had it for two weeks. Go to godinguitars.com and i think they have a picture of it there… let me know….

Hi!
I’m writing this on behalf of my Thai friend, Lek. He picked up a Spruce Plus in Bangkok, bought it back to his home in Chiang mai ( a long way) and now finds that after playing for a period of longer than 10 minutes the otherwise beautiful sound of the guitar is marred by a creaking noise which seems to come from around the area of the scratch guard, just behind the hole. Almost sounds like heat stress tough can’t be sure. The weather at this time of year is around a constant 80 degress.Any ideas???

The guitar manufacturer supposedly has a lifetime guarantee. If he emails and covers the shipping, I bet they’ll repair it ??!
I’m just learning to play…bought a Takamene Jasmine and felt like it was wearing me.
Just bought a Seagull yesterday and what a delightful guitar. It fits and sounds great and is easy to hold.
I paid 249… is that about right for a grand?
Seagull makes good affordable guitars. Don’t get me wrong, they are no Martin, but you aren’t paying 800+ dollars either. The Seagull Grand is not Seagull’s best sounding guitar. It is a good small "take along" guitar that is good for carrying around without too much trouble. The smaller size takes a little away from the base that you would find in a larger guitar, but Seagull did make the "best bang for the size" with the dimensions the grand has. I say you made a good choice (and you got a good price).
interested in a seagull sm-6 20655, ive got one ,,want to know what the heck it is,,thanks kurt

My multiac nylon classical goes sharp about a half step as you move up to the 12th fret. I’ve tried to adjust the neck bolt to alleviate this problem but the intonation remains constant. I don’t think there is a way to adjust the bridge because of the Gk2 pickups. I’ve changed strings several times and the intonation is still there. I would appreciate any suggestions. I also have the GR30 synth and really enjoy it. David

Ther is no gk-2 on a multiac nylon.
I am trying to use my Godin LGX through a Roland VG-8ex guitar system and I am having the following problems.
the 5th and 6th strings in the driver setup seem to reverse i.e. when playing the 5th string for sensitivity the 6th string shows on the VG-8s LCD screen and vice-versa for the 6th string.
This is not a problem in actually playing except (is this connected?) when pitch shifting throgh the VG-8 strings 5 & 6 won’t pitch shift at all.
Roland say that it’s a Godin guitar problem and the VG-8 will work with a GK2 pickup.
I know this is a long shot but can anybody help !!

I had the same problem trying several Godins with a Roland VGA-7 amp!
So gave up & bought a VGA-5 instead!
I purchased a Seagull in 1984, and still love the guitar. Who made my guitar, vs. who is making them now? What has changed since then? Are they as good now as they were then?
Please email response to the address given above. Thanks,
Jeff
In response to your inquiry, I just found the site, I have a curley maple cutaway that is the prototype (it’s about 4.5 yrs. old) to the Seagull Artist Series. It has no pickguard, gold tuners with mother-of-pearl knobs, a maple head face, sides and 3 piece split back, in addition to that I also have a seagull cedar face, cherry back and sides 12 string, which I play the most. In fact, I will put my 12 up against any Taylor or Martin in non-stop playabillity. Seagull is still being made by LaSiDo and remain the only reason why Qubec should not be nuke back into the stone age. By the way, I also have a Guild F121XL which is a jumbo 12 string, that I played the frets off had it refretted and a compinsated bridge built for it and hardly ever play since I got the Seagull 12.
I only wish Seagull would make a bigger bodied guitar. My eldest son has 2 seagull 6’s, a ceder for home use, and a cut-away he uses along with his Godin Tri-system for his rock band.
I have no wonder that you are sitll inthralled with your Seagull, it’s still the biggest bang for the buck on the market today…

i’ve been fond of these instruments for a long time.. well?.. is ten years a long time?…lol.. bought my first seagull back in 92.. it’s an S6+ folk.. was hard up for cash at the time.. this one had a "repaired" top and still looked ok, sounded beautiful and played great.. for $150… it couldn’t be beat!.. still have it still play it.. last weekend i purchased an S series grand… a bit more portable.. and a WAYYY better buy in a small guitar than the taylor baby, or even the big baby… they are STILL doing things right at LASIDO…

I am interested in the s6+cedar guitar. I found a website that sold it for $279 with a $42 case at pbmusic.com and I was wondering if you would beat that.
Try Murch Music (run a web search for the address). They’re in Canada and have great prices, especially with the exchange rate.
i have called murch music.. there’s a considerably better price at a little guitar store in missisauga…lol…
Yo! fun…
i like it 🙂
