Have one in fair shape. When was it made? By who? What is it’s worth. Is missing bridge! IT must not be an orginal with Stainer etched on back. Most articles have it spelled Absom on real Stainers. Any info would be helpful, Thanks

Hi Lazar,
I also have the same violin as you. My grandfather bought it in 1916 in Europe somewhere when he was in WW1 in France. I would also like some information about this violin.

hi,i’m jim a purchased this fiddle in kent, ohio, usa
work done on it by peter horn the violin maker,he said it was made bewtween 1820 and 1850 in Slovakia?
My Grandma has a Stainer violin from her father. In the inside of the violin it says: Jacobus Stainer, in Abfam, prope Oenipontum, 1642. On the back of the violin it says Stainer. Who do I contact to see if it is the original or just a copy? It never says it’s a copy.

FYI: I have a violin that says inside "Copy of Jacobus Stainer in Absam prope Oenipontum 1680 Made in Czecho-Slovakia". It doesn’t have a number and it doesn’t say who made it besides that it was made in Czecho-Slovakia.

bonjour,j’ai un violon de marque jacobus stainer in abfam oenipontom 1735 "35" étant ecrit à la main.est-ce bien son année de fabrication?
quelle est sa valeur? merçi
I got the same violin, it has a typed label on the indside, reading: Jacobus stainer in Absam Prope Oenipontum 16 and a stamp on the back reading: stainer. Unfortunately the stamp and the printed(not handwritten) label prove these violins are copies… Value depends on condition and quality of copy (could be 100$, could be 2000$) I think in our case even if in good state u should hope for no more than 100$! Our instruments probably come from Seals (around 1900) Better luck next time!
I have a Jacobus Stainer Violin and inside is it stamped: Jacobus Stainer in Ablam prope oeniponium 16. On the back it has a stamp that says Stainer. Everything I can find on the internet says Absam rather than Ablam, has anyone ever seen this? Does anyone know how I can find out the age or value of this violin?
Have you heard anything more on this? I just found one given to me by my grandfather and I wrote down the same name, except mine says Jacobus Stainer in Ablam prope Oenipontum, 1686 (with the "86" written in). I’ve also looked throughout internet, and you’re the only one with the same name as I have on mine. I want to find some way to find the value as well. Please respond. Thanks. – Your fellow Stainer owner, Susan
I just found one with the same lable in side just mine only says 16 on the paper lable inside
I have one that came to me from my dad’s estate. As a young boy I remember him playing it. I’m almost 60 now and as near as I can figure it’s older than me. I take it no one out there has come up with any answers yet. I took mine to a music store locally and they said less than the price of a new unit off the shelf of 650.00 but that remains to be seen. If you choose to respond put something about "your violin" in the subject line to keep me from deleting your response as junk mail. Thanks…..Jerry
On my violin I have the same label "Jacobus Stainer in Ablam prope oeniponium 1746".
It looks to me that it is not an original instrument by Jacobus Stainer?
Cheers,
Pawel

I purchased thru ebay a violin, that is stamped Stainer. The inside inscription reads “Jacobus Stainer in Absam prope Omnipontum 17 30 ( the 30 is in pencil)
A friend looked at the sound post which he says may be original, had beautiful straight lines made from a certain wood type. He thinks the violin may have been made in the 1820-1860 years?
Any ideas as to value? Thank you
I have a violin with the following label inside: Jacobus Stainer in Absam prope Oernipontum 16 #57 (the #57 being handwritten). Made in Czecho-Slovakia. There is not stamp on the backside of the instrument that says Stainer which, from everything I’ve researched, would be a clear indication that it is a copy. I purchased it from a woman who inherited it from her grandfather. Am I looking at anything of great value? Thanks, Kathie
I have a Stainer violin with this inscription on a piece of maple veneer that says Jacobus Stainer in Ablam prope Oenipontum 1729. On the back of the body below the neck it says something I can’t make out and it is not stainer. It is something like Sc????tzx?. Angela
Thanks, Angela for your reply. From everything I’ve read (online) about this violin maker, Jacobus Stainer began his career studying under a master violin maker in Austria and eventually began making his own violins. I think he lived in the 1600s. Since the inscription was obviously a foreign language and since it said “made” in Czecho-Slavkia I asked friends of mine (who are both from the Czech Republic) if they knew what it said. They did not know nor did they even recognize it so…..no answers there. The Sc???tzx might be something in that same language.
From everything I’ve read there have been many, many, many cppies produced of the Stainer violin and most of these are stamped on the back somewhere with “Stainer”. I think it’s safe to assume that the word on the back of yours is not this language’s rendition of the name of Stainer as his name was spelled correctly on the top line of the inscription. Nothing is stamped on the back of my instrument but that does not mean it is of any value. All I know is that my violin instructor says the tone and quality of sound is acceptable for a beginner so I’m learning to play it. (Well, I’m trying to learn how to play it)
I would love to take mine to an violin appraiser (as I’m sure you would) but I know it would cost way more $ than I want to pay to have him/her tell me it’s just a decent-sounding, old copy. That’s all I’ve got. If I find out more, I will contact you again.
Again, much appreciation for your reply,
Kathie

: Hello.
: I am a high school student who plays in the school orchestra. And i know a bit about violins. Also this one, because i have one.
: Mine says exactly the same thing in it. The violin is a copy of Violins made by Giovan Paolo Maggini in the 1600. There are thousands of these violins. The were made circa 1900 in Germany. I bought mine for $2,500. I suggest you go to a String instrument shop (violin, viola, cello, bass, not guitar), or go to a music shop that knows a thing or two about violins and get it appraised.

Hello,
I have a violin that was purchased at auction that says the following:
Giovan Paolo Maggini
brescia 1631
It has double purfling on the front and has a wood that appears to be "birds eye" on the sides and backs. I have been told that many of the copies state they are a copy and include the country where they were made. I never have been too concerned about the maker of the violin, it’s value, whether or not it is a copy, etc….but now I am considering having it appraised. Anyone have any info to share?

jerry says i have the same violin mine is dated 1640 it was in bad shape when i got it, i sent it to a fellow who was supposed to be a lutier he apparntly didn’t know much. how to parmid the cracks or even how to hot knife. then glued it togeather with a hot glue gun. i/ve to take the time to redue it all. it’s a little longer then a strat copy or the german fiddles. sure like to hear how it sounds.
I also have a violin signed Giovan Paolo Maggini, Brescia 1623 . I would like to know how to get evaluated. It is in poor shape now and has not been worked on.

I have the exact violin also and am in the process of having it appraised by a violin maker in Rochester, NY I will let you know what I find out.
Hello I am an undergraduate at the Univesity of Kwa-Zulu Natal in South Africa. I have been playing the violin for about ten years and possess one of these violins that I do believe were made in 1900. I bought it 10 years ago for 1700 Rand and belive that it was well below its true value. My estimate now is within the region of $2000-$2500 dollars. It does have unique features such as a double scroll and a backing with maple eyes instead of the traditional wood lining. I would be interested to hear what valuatuions other people with similar violins have acquired.
Thanks
Caroline

I have this one and it sounds great! Loud in comparison to my other violins. The G,D and A are lower register, but vibrate well. Just what I’ve been looking for! The E seems sharp. Very plain looking brown varnish, single purfing, one piece back and front, Sides and back are faded Tiger Strip, but I really like the
colorful sound tone! Total keeper!

Sorry I can’t tell you much about your violin except that I have one that sounds the same. My granfather gave it to me(he is 89) and it was his grandfathers who bought it around 1880. It was apparently pretty old back then. I’m not sure of its value bit I treasure it as it is senitmental to me. This one has 16 printed inside after brefcia. I would like to know anything that anyone else knows.

Case w/blue plush lining = $100.00
Now is typical glasser bow = $40.00
Keep in mind this was 1994. Hope this helps

Hello, anybody know something about a
Giovan Paolo Maggini violin 1695¿? I need us! Please contact with me, is very important, my email is [email protected]
Okie, all you people who claim they have a Maggini and the dates are over 1630, – you have a violin made not by the master, but by his scholars or simply a replica, so the value of it is much less then you’d expect. Gio. Paolo Maggini only lived until 1630, and therefore, he couldn’t have made any instruments past that date. Not sorry to dissappoint you, because you should’ve known better before acting all pretentious and concieted about your replicas. And mine is from 1628, which can only mean one thing- it was one of his best works, simply since his whole craftsmenship consisted of making his creatins better and better with each one with time. I would adise you people read some historic books on the greatest violin makers; that should get some sense into you and help rid those of us who know what we’re talking about from your nonsense and lies.
Giovan Paolo Maggini did not date his creations. I have one that sounds wonderful! Is it real? Who knows! Would I sell it? Maybe? Right now I enjoy playing it! Who could afford to buy it? Mine says; Giovan Paolo Maggini bresifca 16. I’m sure I didn’t spell bresfiacia correctly, because it has a big dust spot in the middle. Wikipedia does explain a little bit of Giovan Paolo Maggini. There is also a short summery book under it that I read of his life. He died around 1630 of a plague along with another famous violin maker; Amiotte, which I’m sure I spelled wrong also? I really can’t find any other information so far. Hope it helps you! Also, if you have a violin or other instrument made before 1920′ or 1940’s; there is no wood like that anymore, because of WW1 and WW2.
Why be such an asshole about it. People are only asking for help, not some asshole to tell them how stupid they are.

holy shite, dude! you probably have one of them real Maggini violins (as in- made by Maggini himself), but it’s not his greatest one, so I’d say somewhere within the range of $25,000 to $32,000-34,000 depending on it’s condition

Hi, anybody know the info and value about this violin?
–Giovan Paolo Maggini, Brefcia 1630
i’m in the process of buying a new violin and i rented one out of a used violin shop in my town. the lable reads "Paolo Maggini, Brescia 1542" i made an attempt to find out some information about this violin. I asked the lady if it was hand made but she really didn’t give me a direct answer. Also it’s bigger than my current violin, it wouldn’t fit in a standard full size violin case…the body was too wide. also what i noticed was that the scroll loops around three times instead of two. if anyone knows anything about this violin please e-mail, i won’t be checking back to this site for a responce so don’t bother posting one, just send me an e-mail with what you have to say. thanks a bunch.

Maggini copies are not uncommon. If they are in decent shape and sound alright, they are worth a couple of thousand bucks.
Any reputable music store that handles used violins can give you an estimate if you take it in.

Kim,
It is unlikely your violin is an authentic Maggini. I have been looking at a model with identical markings and been advised by a person more knowledgable than myself that this was apparently a very popular model to copy.
I recommend you go to a reputable dealer to get an eyeball estimate of what you have. If it is merited you can then get a full appraisal. Some copies can be worth several thousand dollars themselves, even though not authentic.
Good luck. I’m curious how the violin came into your dad’s possession and how your story turns out. If you care to share please email me. By the way, I live near Seattle Washington and can recommend local people if you are in this area.
Your violin can’t be an original because Maggini died in 1630 or 31 of Bubonic Plague. Sorry.
my label also says Giovan Paolo Maggini in 1617. most likely to be a copy. but i’m just curious. how many authentic maggini violins are actually found? i seem to only found 2 so far on the web.

I have a small amount of info on this violin. We talled to a man with the road show over the phone. My violin was passed down to me from my father. Its dated Brefcia 1695.We found out that Maggini died in 1630 and what we have is a forgery. Also that they might have been massed produced by a company in Germany. We were told the worth of the violin would probably be between 400.00 and 2500.00 dollars. One other thing is that the bows would be worth a greater amount of money. Anybody got a 1695 bow?
You use the term "forgery" here. I think you mean copy. These are not forgeries. The manufacturers do not try to make and sell them as originals, but they do let people know who’s model they are copying. This is very legal, happens all the time, and is not a forgery, simply a copy.

Does anyone know or can look at their violins, Mine says:" Giovan Paolo Maggini/ Brelcia 1640" The interesting thing is the "40" is penciled in. Is anyone elses last 2 digits penciled in? Please let me know. thanks Renee
Maggini died in 1630 or 1631 of Bubonic plague. So any violin dated after 1631 is definitely a copy. It doesn’t matter if it is penciled in the inside.

Yes I too have a violin with exactly the same label "1640". I can only vouch for it being 100 years in our family. Perhaps it was made in the end of the 1800s.

Maggini died in 1630. So any dates after that are copies. I have one as well that is penciled in.
:Hello, It was brought to my attention, when researching the violins that Maggini died in the late 1500’s. I was also told that he never dated any of his violins. After he died the germans made many copies of his violins and those are the ones you will find with the dates on them. Chances are you have a reproduction. I have one myself, and it is dated 1610 circa. But if I was mislead, please let me know. THANKS : I too have one with the 40 pencilled in, but it has Lowendall Magini stamped on the back. He was born around 1580 and died of the plague in 1630 or 1631. If he dated his work, yours is a copy.
I also have a giovan paolo maggini, brefcia 1650. The 50 is written in whereas as the rest is a stamp on the inside of the violin. Any ideas of age or what the 1650 refers to?? thanks Jacquie

i have a giovan paolo maggini 16 with last 2 numbers pincled in it is belived to be an original. finger board worn from extencive playing. i would like to know the approx. value of it. it belonged to my great great great grandpa its been in the family for at leats 150 years. i am going to sell it because of financial difficulties if any one is interested please call me at 8598080221
I have a Giovan Maggini violin that is referred to as a "three quarter size" with a label inside, printed in what appears to be all ink, dated 1683.Any ideas on the age of this style? It has been in my family for about 35 years, and belonged to family friends before that.
mine has only 16… and the last two digits are smudgy I can’t make out exactly what was the original date of make of it, but it looks either as if it might be the early 1600’s hundreds (like 1612/18) or the late 1600’s (like 1672 or 88, or 78, or 82). I would prefer if it were the early 1600’s rather than the late 17-th century, ‘cuz then it has more of a chance of being one of the real Maggini’s violins.

Hi!
Yes, mine (also Giovan Paolo Maggini/Brelcia 1630) also shows the "30" in pencil. There were only a few made, but ALL of them have the last two digits left blank. The reason for this, is so that they could be filled in upon completion before they left the factory. You have to remember that at those times it took a while to build just one, and it was unknown when exactly one might be completed, so this was left blank to fill in at a later point in time, when more was known. It was only obvious that they would definitely be completed in the "16" hundreds.
Now I have a question of my own!…Does ANYbody know of or can suggest a price at which these violins may be sold for? I’m still not sure of their exact or even rough values. Also if anybody IS interrested in purchasing this violin, I can be contacted at: [email protected]
Price is very flexible! 🙂

The master himself died in 1630, later violins likely were made by his apprentices trading on his fame and style. I have one dated 1637, so clearly it was not made personally by him. In addition Brelsia is not the correct spelling of his Italian home so far as I know. The violins are rare and, very to extremely valuable depending on the tones produced, and clearly have the master’s influence. In poor condition about $7500.00, good condition with no visible repairs and original finish $30-60 thousand US.
Does anyone have information on Giovan paolo Baggini brefcia 1695? Unsure of the letter f. All letters are printed on a label. Thanks M. Martin
I also have a “Giovan paolo Maggini brefcia 1695” – It has a beautiful, rich dark sound that I have not heard in any violin save the De Salo copies. It has double purfling. I love it. I’ve wanted to know how to get a spare violin with the same sound!
The “f” is actually an old s.
Giovan Maggini died in 1630, of the black plague.
They are copies, but they are beautiful. The interesting thing about mine, and as far as I can tell, others dated “brefcia 1695” is that they are the proper size for a Maggini – an extra 1/2 inch longer in the back and a about 1cm wider than a standard violin. This helps to give them a deeper sound. I read that the German copies were made to the standard size…I’m wondering if these are the French copies??? I saw one that looked identical to mine for sale on e-bay France – but it’s just a hunch.
They look 100+ years old to me; but that is a guess. It was popular to copy them 90-200 years ago.

Giovann Paolo Maginni died in 1630 but his assistant kept making violins until the end of the century. They were then replicated in the later part of the 1700’s. The ones dated 1682 estimate out at around $800 – $1600 depending on the condition. Dry and cracked are OK but never refinish one.

——————————————————
Giovanni Paolo Maggini (1580-c. 1630) born at Botticino (near Brescia, Italy), apprenticed with the master violin maker Gasparo da Salo. His early products show a strong Gasparo influence but are marked by rather crude workmanship. While acquiring a thorough knowledge of the various woods available to him, Maggini evolved his own style, and later, as a master, his own techniques of craftsmanship. He experimented frequently to improve the tone quality of his instruments and to perfect his construction methods; many of these improvements are still in use today. Maggini and Gasparo are considered the most important instrument makers of the Brescian school.
The instruments made by Maggini at the end of his career were his finest. They are known for the quality of the woods and unusually large sound holes (which are well curved and carefully finished), as well as for their exceptionally mellow tone. Many are ornamented on the back with such decorations as the St. Andrew’s Cross, a clover-leaf device, tableaux, medallions, crests, or other motifs. Varnishes varied from a clear brown in his early efforts to a more brilliant transparent golden or reddish-brown color of rich quality in later instruments. The typical late-model Maggini has a double row of purfling and low sides.
Maggini is known to have made at least sixty violins, nine violas, two violoncellos, one double bass, and a few viols. His label appeared in the following forms:
Gio. Paolo Maggini in Brescia
Paolo Maggini in Brescia
Giovanni Paulo Megri
a Brescia, 1615
. Maggini instruments are still one of the most sought-after in the world by great players, but especially expert fiddlers. Since Maggini only made about 60 instruments, the probability of getting an original is pretty slim. Even well-made copies are hard to come by.Maggini violins, our reproduction included, are slightly larger (but with a standard playable string length of about 13") than later violins, such as those by Amati and Stradivari (Giovanni Paolo Maggini was 15 years deceased before Antonio Stradivari was even born in 1644, give or take a year or so), and are known for their beautiful depth in tone and projection that is strong but warm. Some consider their tone dark or somber, but all of the Magginis pack a punch when it comes to projection (i.e. they are loud). It is noteworthy that many of the old instruments by Appalachian master fiddle makers were variations of Magginis, but generally more highly decorated.

Hi
I have a violin with the label
"Giovan paolo Maggini
brescia 16 "
Following the 16 is 99 but in a different writing style. The label looks old but the font looks like it is done on a typewriter or computer. Is it likely to be a fake?
I read that any of the Maggini violins that had a date on it was a replica. It seems that many of the replicas were made at the end of the 1800 in Germany.
Now the question is… are the replicas worth anything?

I also have a Maggini violin dated 1671. If you find any information please forward to me at the email address [email protected].
Giovano Paolo Maggini died in 1630-31. Any violins dated after then are subject to skeptisicm. Violins dated after 1630 are probably copies, although they may not be labeled as such. A geniuine Maggini violin (1630-31) is worth anywhere between $200,000 – $2,000,000. The value of copies varies.
*Correction: A geniuine Magginni would be dated BEFORE 1630-31

I have one labelled 1617, from an estate sale where there was also an old piano and accordian, and another ‘Strad’ violin (most definitely a fake but looks very old nonetheless). The 16 is printed on the label and the 17 is written in pencil. The violin looks very old; the varnish has worn off under the shoulder rest and also the varnish has worn off so much beneath the chin-rest that you can feel the grain in the wood. It’s scratched and worn but sounds beautiful. I have no idea where to send it to get it authenticated but would never sell it even if it was genuine, am just wanting to find out if it’s real or not.

Can you tell me how and where to have this violin appraised?
Hello, my wife has a violin that says, “Giovani Paolo Maggini Brefcia 16. Could anyone tell us how to get it appraised or how much it could be worth?
Has anyone responded to this yet? My friend has similar one
Hi! I have a beautiful Maggini copy in a very old wooden coffin case. The label inside reads Giovan paolo Maggini brescia 1613.
My question is, who was making the copies in the late 1800s/early 1900s??
It has geared bone/ivory pegs on an etched peg ‘plate’. 2 piece/flame back.
I’m eager to learn who made mine!!
email me at [email protected]
I have a violin that has a tag saying. violin grovan paolo maggini breficia 1;424. What does 1;424 mean?
Hi!
Very recently I’ve discovered a very old violin which was given to my grandparents by and old couple who had it for over 75 years, ive done some research and I belive it might be a Giovan Violin possible copy im unsure.
-It has a 14.5 inch corpus
-it has a 2 turn scroll
-It has the two beveled lines around the outside and decorative carvings on the back
-it looks very old and has a fair few cracks in it and it has a strange star like symbol on the tail piece
– inside there is a sticker which says:
Gio Paollo Magini Mefecile
(P. Megini 1893 (also hand written)
Brecia Anno. G.S.T 17 16 (the 16 is hand written)
and then of to the right side, on the wood it says
1893
1922 (and next to those numbers a word i cant read, it looks like a weird L maybe and then “inie”)
I suspect that it is a copy because of dates inside, there are no strings on it so i dont know what it sounds like, and i am planing to take it to a professional in town to see what they think
I inherited a violin that was passed down in the family for two generations that I know of. It is a 2 1/2 turn and the label reads Giovan paolo Maggini brefcia 16 and I think 05 which is very faint next to the old style printed 16. Any help would be appreciated. This violin was handed down on the Irish/Scottish side of my husband’s family.
I too have a maggini violin dated 1625, a Meir 5 years before his death. The 625 are penciled in but the label looks authentic. However mine is worn and it also has a inlay of mother of pearl on the bottom of the string thing holder..haha I don’t know what it is called. My comment is this, maggini only made 60 violins if this is correct how many are accounted for. It would narrow it down.
Hi
I have one as well. We can say for sure it’s old especially since it doesn’t have Germany in the label. I read that a few makers copied his work especially in the years immediately following his death, but the instruments were not mass produced. It may not be 400 years old but then again it might be
J’ai un violon a vendre de Giovan Paolo Maggini Fecit in Brecia 1626. Tres bon etat. Qui peut me renseigner sur son prix ??? Quelle serait sa cote actuelle ? MERCI

I have a Giovan Paolo Magini Brefchia 16?? violin. I can`t help but notice that in my violin in the name of Maggini there`s only one g… Is there a difference with those that has a Maggini (double ggs). Also my violin has the name Paganini burnt in the back near the neck. Can anybody help me with the age and value for this instrument? Thanks Dan
Hi there…did you ever find out about your violin? Mine too has one g and I have been searching the internet for information!
Hi. I have a very old looking violin with scroll “concert violin maggini” on the back. On tne inside there is a hand written name and date. Does Anyone know anything about this?
I have a violin that is in excellent shape. The label inside reads: Gio: Paolo Maggini in Brefcia (no date)
Made in Czechaslovakia
Does anyone know the approximate value of this instrument?
I have a violin maggini don’t know to much about it al i know is a 1695 no.1490 VIRZI tone producer faciebat brecia italy need more inf. thank you
I have a Gioyan Paulo Maggini violin dated 1690 in good condition. Can anyone give me the approximate value?
Anything dated past 1630 is a cheap knock-off. Most of them game from German factories in the early 1900’s, most of these are dated 1695, and are next to worthless. They were known as a ‘Two dollar fiddle’ as you could pick them up for $2. The likelyhood that any are orginial, are 60 in a billon, as he only made 60 violins, and you can tell if it is original by a double purfling on the front and back, and they generally have a two pice back, and also have very elaborate wood inlays in the backs. And as for with the one dated 17, that is how 90% of them are written, and I would have that one looked at by a professional luthier. On many copies the entire date is printed, on handmade models, the date is usually printed ’16’ then written for the rest.
Using worthless to describe a copy of a German made violin in the late 1800’s to early 1900’s is a serious exaggeration!!! Most Maggi copies made in “German factories” are worth anywhere from $400-$2500. Many of them were very nicely made violins with great tone and quality. Maybe not a collector item (yet), but may definitely be a great playing instrument.

I have a Giovan paolo Maggini dated 1694. It has a signature above (which I can not read) and initials (I think are Fre) below the name & date. Does anyone have an idea what this violin might be worth or any info on it?

I have a stainer vilon but i can not make out thdate inside ecept 17. What is the value of this vilon
I have probably a copy of a Jacobus Stainer violin. It sounds really good, but realistically, is likely a copy. How can I tell for sure?? Is there a market for copies? or the real thing. It has the usual label inside but also has the name STAINER in black letters on the back where the neck joins. Any help on this? Thanks.
I have a Jacobus Stainer 16 violin.fiddle and am trying to determine it’s worth. I was offered $500 for it already as it is but had someone tell me it was circa 1800. I do know it was brought back to the states by my father in WWII from Gernamny. I still have a printout from maestronet.com stating the circa 1800 and Authenticity Status: Cristie’s "labelled". Thanks, C. Scott My web site is located at http://www.aeriano.com/antiques/antiques.html
I’ve got a fake (well I presume fake!) jacobus stainer with 1738/9 written on the inside. All printed except the 38/39 (I can’t tell, it’s a bit dark inside the violin!). I do know however that it was German, even if not made by Mr Stainer himself. It was in poor condition (scroll completely broken off) but my father had it repaired (he’s in the woodwind trade and one of his workers happened to be a violin repairer so it wasn’t extortionate). I’m using too many brackets.
Anyway I’ve got it insured for £7000 including the £800 bow I’ve got along with it. I suppose even though it’s a fake it’s still makes a wonderful rich sound and the damage did not effect the resonance of the violin in any way. So if my fake goes for £7000, I reckon a real one must be considerably more valuable.
I would like to find out what a price range would be for a 1716 jacobus stainer violin.

just wondering what a jacobus stainer 1647 violin is worth i have a violin thats got the subject stats about it
We have a violin with a sticker inside that states the heading above (Jacob Stainer in Abiam Prope Oenipontum 1624). "24" in the date "1624" is written in pencil or ink. Looking at all the other inquiries I noticed that the earliest date listed was 1648. Why is our’s dated earlier and is there any value in our violin. John
I have one the same as yours, but mine has 1648. Let me know what you find out. Thank you

I was wondering if you could help me get the value of a violin made in the late 1920’s.
need restauration, and new parts, got broken just before World War Two
the violin in perfect condition minor scratches around bridge, found at a garage sale
Don’t know how this site works, but I have a very old Jacobus Stainer violin. The label is not handwritten but the 48 is handwritten. Has Stainer ingraved on the back. Has Stainer ingraved on the inside. Has a 2 piece back. Found in the attic. Just thought I would inquire here first. Thanks
I read about some machine made violines of 1908, which of course only were COPIES of the true Jacobus Stainer. These Copies somtimtes had stamps on its back or inside. Stainer himself didn’t use stamps, I think. Sorry.
My name is Juan Carlos Torres. I live in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I own a violin labeled "Jacobus Stainer in Absam Prope Oenipontum 1795", wich I would like to sell. Any people than like a violin Jacobus Stainer 1795 can call
Puerto Rico Phone #787-856-3322 Jose Emanuelli address Urb. Costa Sur Street E D-24 Yauco P.R 00698.
You must be mistaken with the date, as Jacob Stainer had well and truly died by 1795.
Dear Juan Carlos Torres: Jakob Stainer was the finest Tyrol/German violin maker, preferred by musicians over Amati’s, Stradivarius, and Guanari instruments. He was born in 1600’s and lived to be just over 60 years old. The violin about which you write must be a copy; an original Stainer is rare and he is noted for his elaborate lion’s head carvings in lieu of scrolls and carvings of angels, etcetera. The Smithonian Museum has information about Jacob Stainer and his instruments. Enjoy your copy and play it often. Sincerely, Madeline

I recently bought a Jacobus Stainer in Absam Prope violin for about $70 from ebay. They typically go from 90 – 100 bucks for a good one. The real Jacobus Stainer lived in the 1600’s. Unfortunately, what you have is a copy like the thousands of strads, and worth around 100 bucks on ebay..

I found an old violin with a label inside stating Jacobus Stainer Copy and was curious of the value…didn’t want to include it in our garage sale for $5.00! Needs work and refurbishment but has a bow and a very old case. Anyone with some information would be helpful. Would love to sell it to someone who would take good care of it.
: I recently bought a Jacobus Stainer in Absam Prope violin for about $70 from ebay. They typically go from 90 – 100 bucks for a good one. The real Jacobus Stainer lived in the 1600’s. He died around 1680. These are all fakes made in a german assembly line like the strads.. There are only a handfull of genuine Jacobus Stainer violins, and they are priceless. Unfortunately, what you have is a copy like the thousands of strads, and worth around 100 bucks on ebay..

: : I also have a Stainer with the same label inside, with the year 15 handwritten after the printed 17. If you found out anything, please let me know what. Thanks!
