This popular thread has been given its own page : 1992 Taylor 712-C can I get an appraisal from somewhere?
: This guitar is in mint condition! It’s a florentine cutaway sn#17557. It has fishman pickups (with the microphone that comes right up to the strings), sidka spruce, and not a scratch on it. I am having trouble finding any sites that have a sample of prices or even this guitar on it. Is there anyone out there that could give me a good estimate on its value???
I saw a used one in a Taylor store in north Ga. in late ’98. It was in great condition with an added under saddle pickup with no on-board electronics. It was selling for around $1400.00. I’ve often regretted not buying it. Is yours for sale?

Jenny, So much depends on the condition of the guitar that it is very difficult to give you even a ballpark figure. The O-17 is not a real common instrument and is not highly sought after like a D-28 or a D-18 might be. Recently there has been some renewed interest in these smaller bodied guitars from Martin. I would guess the value of yours to be in the hundreds, not the thousands if that is any help at all.

Want my advice?
You need to have it looked at by a serious professional – maybe several. On "Anyiques Roadshow" last week they appraised a man’s guitar, 1945 00-18 Martin at $18,000 and it appeared to be in crap condition. I have a 1945 00-18 Martin, serial # 96778. It was my Daddy’s who played in a combo in the 40’s and 50’s. I had it autographed by C.F. Martin IV about 20 years ago. It is in good conditon.
Please – GET A CASE FOR IT! Keep it put up in a closet (in case of fire),
A guy here in Asheville at a music store offered me a "whopping" one thousand dollars and I laughed all the way home. I am not selling it although I have had many offers.
Just thought it would be good info for you. Denise
I have a Guild D25m accoustic guitar with what I believe to be a chestnut finish. It is exactly like the one that Chrissy Hynde of the Pretenders used when she made a guest appearance on Friends. The guitar was purchase from the House of Gutairs in New York. It has a serial #. I am looking for an age of the guitar and approximate value. It is in excellent condition and has a very, very good sound/tone quality. A high quality pick-up was added to it…The kind that is behind the hole and stuck with a gum-like subsatance with the jack in the strap mount. Thanks for your help!
There is an online way to date your guild guitar with the serial no. at http://www.gigmate.com/links.htm this is Dr. Ducks guitar dating link and can help to date several brands of guitars guild is just one they have data for. The serial no. for my ’79 is 196391 that might help you date yours. hope

THat serial number relates to 1953 model as is correct. The average price is between $1500 to 1800 if in excellent condition. The steel string version goes for $3000+ upward.

My neighbor is very ill and bed-ridden. She asked me to come to her home today, and play her old Martin guitar so she could listen to it once again. It is a Martin 00-18G, serial number 125470, which dates it to 1952. It plays beautifully and sounds wonderful, however, it has scars to match its age. It has a straight neck and smooth, fast action. It has a 2" barely noticeable crack on the back at the rear midline lamination. It has 2 areas about 1 cm in diameter where the finish has been rubbed off showing the bare wood (mahogany). The finish is very dark and almost smeared, however, it appears to be original, so I may be mistaken. At some point, someone glued a thick black plastic pick guard below the sound hole. I am not certain why they did this, since the face is not scratched or disfigured in that area. There is a small 1cm diameter decal on the top face that the owner said was placed to cover a chip in the finish. It has a guitar strap peg in the rear, which I do not know if it is original. This instrument is not pristine by any means, but is very playable and sounds terrific. The owner is past friends with numerous famous guitar artists (Andre Segovia, Alvino Rey and others) who have all played this guitar. She is the original owner and intends to leave it to her son, but would like an estimate of its real worth. It is likely that this guitar will not be sold, but the owner is curious of its worth.
Thank you for your time.

I have a 1978 CFMartin D-28. I bought it for 1,000.00 dollars. I has only very very light marks from pick when played. You can’t even see the marks unless you shine a bright light on it. It is in about as mint condition as you can get.
I have a martin guitar that has been in the family for years. It belonged to my dad.I remember playing it when I was seven years old, and I am now eighty. the serial no is as follows,22946. A few years ago I had a new finger board replaced. They done a real good job, because It plays well.
I play it almost every day. Can you tell me what you think the guitar is worth today. It will be handed to one of my three sons, who also plays.

I own a Fender Villager, bought new in 1971. Black body w/ natural neck. Partially refretted in 1992. Plays extremely well and is in great shape except for some temperature-related splits in the epoxy finish. Was thoroughly checked by a guitar shop and there are no structural problems. Comes with original hard case (w/new hinges and handle) and a Dean Markley pickup. Any ideas on a fair selling price? Any input would be appreciated.

I have a guitar, about 20 years old and in mint condition. It’s just a little pearl Yamaha SBG200. How could I go about finding a value for that. My husband seems to think it is worth $1000, I’m guessing not. Not looking to sell it, just an inside bet.
Thanks

Umm no, it’s like a sure bet it is not worth 1000… maybe. I own a black one and its in excellent condition as well. I paid only 200 for it not too long ago. Which is not to say it isn’t an excellent instrument. For sound and vibe I choose it above my expensive guitars. But it may be a possibility that the pearly finish is like some wierd rarity or something. Who the hell knows. Someone I bet.

I have a pearly colored one too… I’ve always hated the look of the guitar (the shape)… I named it "Fug Leigh" (fugly). I’ve read what some people have said they purchased the guitar for (used), and the prices have ranged from 300-500 bucks… My dad bought it for me when I was seven off of a guy for 100… That was about 10 years ago.
I have a 1979 les paul custom with a sunburst finish and have spent the last two hours trying to find out a ball park figure of its worth on the internet but have encountered nothing but ads. Some help would be appreciated. The guitar plays and sounds awesome but has some wear. Also the pickups may or may not be original.
i inherited an old guitar from my uncle in good shape. i dont know the exact year, but my uncle bought it used 16 years ago, so i know it is at least that old. it is an accoustic 12 string from gibson. it sounds great, has a little wear and tear, and looks very folkish. i heard somewhere that gibson accoustics were rear and so i wanted to check it out.

Hello,
I have a 1964 Jaguar, Worn but still plays great. Original paint, chipped in spots, but all the head decals and such are intact.
I was wondering what sort of interest there is in a vintage electric such as this. I was told not to refinish it or touch up the assorted dings in the paint. Is this true? I will leave it alone for now. Might even consider selling it or trading it off for the right instrument. Any ideas? Please e-mail me if you like .
Thanks, Kev

I have a Martin Guitar D-16T. I would like to know it’s value and the date it was made.
: I have a Martin Guitar D-16T. I would like to know it’s value and the date it was made.
I think you have a D-16GT, the GT stands for "gloss top". The guitar was probably made in the late 1990’s and is worth 500-900 dollars.
actually the d-16t came before the GT. It dates back to somewhere between 1993 and 1995. They are not worth too much, unfortunately. A good frame of reference is the SPD-16T, the special edition version from the same time period. The SPD version had gold tuners, bigger snowflake inlays, and abalone inlay around the soundhole. Today that version consistently sells for about $500 to $600.
I used to own a D-16T but sold it for $299, and it was mint condition.
I have just bought a Gibson acoustic guitar and would like to know how much it’s worth. It is a Gibson country western model. It’s serial number is 356196.The man I bought it from told me he bought it new from SEARS AND ROEBUCKS CO. in 1941.
I would like to know how much this guitar is worth. I had one appraisal for $4000.00. Is this in the ball park?

Jim — what is the condition of the guitar? If it’s it’s not a "beater" it could be worth 4K.
If you still have it, email me at [email protected].

Hi,
I own a classical guitar that was built by the Japanese luthier S.
Yairi. I think the S stands for Sadao. The model no. is 700. I
purchased it used in 1985, but it is still in mint condition. Do you
have any idea what is would appraise at?
I have an Sadoa Yairi Guitar, 1970, no model number, but it is #49 for the year and is Clase J ot T 029. The symbol looks like a pointy J that is crossed like a T. It has been a wonderful guitar, but the head was recently broken in an auto accident. I am trying to find a replacement for the insurance adjustor but am having trouble. Any ideas? I only paid $65.00 for it but my internet search is showing $500 – $700. Thanks for your help.
Can you help me discover a history behind this guitar? A friend of mine mentioned that he had an old guitar that was laying around the house. I suggested that he bring it out and we’d play a bit. I was intregued when I saw what he had.
Here are the features I noticed: It’s parlor size; the unbound neck is one piece with a "V" shape; the headstock is slotted; the top is solid spruce; the sides/back appear to be solid rosewood; the sound hole inlay consists of simple black strips plus a herringbone strip; the purfling is solid wood. The frets were not rounded but rectangular in shape – maybe 1/8" tall by 1/64" in diameter. I could not find a serial number anywhere but did find a white circle about the size of a quarter on the headstock with a faint writing that said: "August Pollmann’s Professional Royal". I think this circle was made out of a plastic material. Can you suggest a history behind this instrument?
Thank you.

I have a Martin guitar, model # 000 28C. I have contacted the MArtin factory, and they said that of the approximately 560 guitars of this model made between 62 and 69, mine was the last – and only – made in 69. It is in VERY good shape, virtually no scratches on the sound board, etc. How much is it worth?
So you still have this guitar, I am not sure if I did inquire about it already. If not let me know if you will sell, how much, and what is condition of the guitar
thanks

Tom, I have added a URL at the bottom to a bage on EBay auctions that is selling the same guitar that you described. Last time I check the latest bid was $355.00 dollars. This bid has not met the reserve (seller’s asking price) yet. I am currently searching the web for any information. Depending on the condition of yours, I might be interested in purchasing it. You can contact me at the address above. Thanks

Hi, Tom
I have the same guitar. I used Orion Blue Book to get an estimated value for insurance purposes. What I found was this: Used $247, MSRP $425. They also had wholesale prices, but that doesn’t seem relevant.
Thanks

I don’t know but I also have one but mine says Nouveau across the top and Gibson from top to bottom down the middle of the head. It sounds fantabulous. I bought it used with a genuine Gibson hard shell case and would not sell it easily. I, however, also would like to know its value.
Yes, it is the same guitar, made the first months before ‘nouveau’ was put in liue of ‘gibson’. I still havn’t found any more information. Ill post it if I find any.

I have an Epiphone Nouveau archtop guitar – I’ve never seen one before, I can’t find squat for price. The information I received from Gibson was that this model (NVJ-n) was designed by Gibson, made in Japan, and assembled/finished at Gibson USA, only between the years ’87-’89. It first ran under the Gibson name, later under Epiphone.
This model is an archtop, full inlays and binding, with "Epipone" script and "Gibson" in 7-verticle layered diamond pattern, both inlayed, on headstock. Curly maple neck, back, and sides, spruce top, rosewood fretboard and bridge. All natural finish. All Gold hardware, single humbucker. Gibson case.
Anyone ever seen one of these? I can’t find it in any price guide- any ideas on value? Thanks
Do these have the 25.5″ scale?
Thanks,
Greg

I own one of these guitars. I like it a lot, and people keep telling me it’s collectible, but the long and short of it is I see them on ebay all the time. The six strings seem to be for sale everywhere and most of them sell for $300 to $400 dollars. The twelve-strings are more rare, and sell for about $100 more.
350$

I have a Broadcaster. I would like some very detailed specs on things to look for to absolutely authenticate my instrument. I have been told there are body dimensions etc. that positively will ID the instrument. I cannot go by any bolt or screw on parts. Too many aftermarket stuff people can just put on. Thanks in advance.

i recently purchased an Ibanez RX series gutiar. One of my friends has a base model fender guitar that he wants to trade me for my ibanez. Both guitars are in equally good condition. Good trade- bad trade on my part?
The Ibanez RX is actually a really nice guitar. The fender guitar is probably good also but what kind is it, where was it made, etc. If I was you I’d keep the Ibanez because of the guarantee of a nice guitar.
