I have owned a number of tube amps over the years… Way back in the day.. Ampegs and what soon became my favorites… FENDER ! Played through my old Bassman with 2×12 cabinet.. bandmaster… Dual Showman… All I remember is that even with all the road trips.. bangin and bouncin and crankin these babies up… I rarely changed tubes ! Now it’s years later.. The Super Champ X2 seemed like a good way to downsize for small sessions and jams.. AND… it was ! Right out of the box as they say… it was sweet sounding all the way and would be easily moved about. Well.. as fate would have it, I did not get to use it much for a spell other than to practice a bit from time to time… Never left my rehearsall studio or the stand it sat on… last time I played it… sounded just fine… turned it off and left it for a week… came back and turned it on and guess what ? Sounded “flat” and distorted even set at 3 on the clean channel !!! Upon inquiring at Fender Headquarters… a CS rep explained that it sounded like my preamp tube… replaced it…Wrong ! Still sounded the same… So ? Whazzup Fender ???! I am aware that the new generation of tubes are not as “resilient” (?) as those of “yesteryear” But reeeeally ? I mean… this thing did NOT get much play time and “Zapped” already ?? NOT Happy at all ! Shame on Fender ! And yes, I know that it was made in China but that’s no excuse… I have alot of things from China (don’t we all?) and they ain’t all “crap” as people say… besides.. I don’t blame our Asian brothers and sisters for any of this anyway… it’s the corps. that give them “crap” to work with…”crap” guidance , etc… There’s some really nice Squier axes coming outta Asia.. played ’em… own a few too… “They” still work… been workin hard too, if I may add ! So what’s the issue with The Super Cramp x2 ???
