Four New Yamaha Pacifica Guitars at Musikmesse 2011 – 611HFM, 510V, 311H and 120H.

Believe it or not, it’s now 17 years since Yamaha first launched their Pacifica series of electric guitars, and at Musikmesse they’ve added four new models to the line up.

At first the Pacifica raised a few eyebrows, it was less expensive than the guitars it was going up against, but within a short period of time guitarists came to see it as a worthy axe – and I can faithfully report that at least one of the people here at owns one.

The four new Pacificas are the 611HFM, 510V, 311H and 120H – all of which were initially designed in Yamaha’s Los Angeles custom shop (bet you didn’t know they had LA luthiers on their team).

The Pacifica 311H sports an Alder body and Maple neck with a Rosewood fingerboard. It also comes with custom-wound P-90 and Humbucker picups (Alnico V)

The 510V is the ‘no frills’ end of the scale, but doesn’t shape up too badly with a single Seymour Duncan TBPR-1b pickup, tinted maple neck and rosewood fingerboard.

Yamaha say the 611HFM (featured in the video above) personifies the Pacifica concept of versatility, performance and individuality and stays true to the LA custom-shop guitar vision. A superb flamed maple and Alder body with a vintage tinted maple neck with models boasts Seymour Duncan SP90 – 1n TB-14 pickups and coil tap tone pot.

Rounding out the new lineup is the 120H, which like the 311H comes with a Maple neck, rosewood fingerboard and Alder body. The difference here is that it has a high performance neck and bridge Humbuckers.

I’ve seen a few different prices floating around for these new Pacifica models (particularly from UK based online guitar shops), but I haven’t yet had the definitive word on what it will cost you to take one home – let’s hope Yamaha make the pricing announcement soon.
