Julian Lage is a fifteen year old jazz guitarist, composer and arranger from the San Francisco Bay area. He is forging a musical style rooted in Jazz, that includes influences from Blues to Indian music. Playing since the age of five Julian was performing publicly by the age of six.

Classically trained at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, he has studied at Sonoma State University, Ali Akbar College of Music and Berklee College of Music in Boston. Julian has performed with Herbie Hancock, Carlos Santana, Bobby Hutcherson, Charles Lloyd and Billy Higgins among others. In addition to touring with his own quartet, Julian has toured with Gary Burton and Martin Taylor. Among the venues he has performed include the 2000 Grammy Awards, the Monterey Jazz Festival, the San Francisco Jazz Festival, the St. Louis Jazz Festival and The Concord Pavilion.

Articles in Down Beat, National Geographics, Planet Jazz, Just Jazz Guitar Player, the San Francisco Chronicle and the Los Angeles Times have featured Julian.

Julian was the subject of the film director mark Becker’s Academy Award nominated documentary “Jules at Eight” in 1997.
