Suhr Guitars introduce the 2015 Collection “The One”, a special limited run instrument that highlights the beauty of quilted maple.

Suhr 2015 Collection

This guitar is the flagship model of the company’s premium line of guitar for 2015, it follows their “Design Inspired By Nature” vision and serves as a tribute to the stewardship of one of their wood suppliers, Longview Harvest Maple.

This year, Suhr’s The Collection series is all about nature inspired themes, and “The One” is said to be the culmination of this special line of guitar that will only be limited to a production of 101 units.

To arrive with the design of “The One”, the company partnered with their longtime wood supplier who ultimately led them to the “Longview Harvest” site in Southern Washington. The trees on this site are being cut for housing development, so the company selected a maple tree and had it reserved until the time was right for harvest.

Suhr’s wood supplier said “If I hadn’t gone in and identified the trees in this area they would have just been cut down and shipped to the pulp yards and been lost forever.”

Long story short, the tree was cut and was harvested to yield tonewoods that will be used to craft body and neck of “The One” guitar, as well other parts that include the flame maple hard case, pickup covers, switch tip, tuning buttons and even the cavity covers.

The body of the guitar is crafted from Quilted Longview Harvest maple, topped by a 3/4″ quilt maple that is also came from the same site. The body follows the familiar double cutaway super strat shape that Suhr is known for, and is wrapped in subtle burst finish. This transparent natural burst finish is designed to accentuate the natural grains of the Longview Harvest maple, and it is applied on to the whole body, neck, headstock, and even on the cavity covers of the instrument.

The neck is a 3pc quilt maple with koa laminate, carved into a modern elliptical profile .800″ – .850″. The fretboard is also made from the same Longview Harvest quilt maple, featuring 24 stainless steel heavy frets and a nut width of 1.650″.

The One guitar comes with a HSH configuration, it has Suhr humbuckers for the bridge and neck position and a standard Suhr single coil for the middle position. Instead of the usual plastic covers for the pickups, the company covered all the pickups with the same quilt maple, an interesting decision which would affect not just the looks, but the tone as well.

Other hardware include Suhr Locking tuners and Gotoh 510 2P-SS-SB bridge, both of which are finished in gold to complement the light colored theme of the guitar. Quilt maple was also used for the knobs that control the volume and tone, as well as the 5-way pickup selector switch tip. Finally, Suhr added a 24 Karat Gold Plated raised inlay logo and an old Mastodon Tusk nut to round up the guitar’s premium appointments.
