EHX Bass Soul Food

Electro-Harmonix follows up on their overdrive pedal with a low frequency friendly version, the Bass Soul Food.

This is the company's second mass production take on the popular boutique "Klon Centaur" pedal, tweaked to better handle the sound of electric bass.

Because of its small production and because of artists that use them, the Klon Centaur continues to be among the most sought after pedal in the market. It continues to be a rare gem, and if you happen to chance on one that is on sale, you can expect it to carry an exorbitant price tag.

This high demand has prompted pedal manufacturers and builders to build their own "versions" of the effect, and EHX's recent Soul Food release is just one of the many. Not content with just having a guitar friendly version, the company decided to make one for bassists to enjoy, resulting in the new Bass Soul Food.

Bass Soul Food is described as being a natural overdrive and clean boost effect that is ideal for sound enhancement. Like the popular expensive boutique pedal, it is designed to be as transparent as possible, retaining the voice of your instrument and the dynamics of your playing while adding an overdrive effect. And it does all this while retaining a compact regular size format

EHX tweaked the gain stage, treble control and signal path, optimizing it for bass guitar, it can also be applicable for guitarists who demand more low-end definition. It comes with an adjustable clean signal blend that helps retain articulation and it has boosted power rails for extended headroom.

Finally, the pedal features a selectable buffered or true bypass mode, along with a switchable -10dB pad for active bass pickups. It is bundled with an EHX branded power adapter and runs on a 9V battery should you prefer that.
