I have played Gibsons for 30 years and just bought a used Fender standard (mexican) strat. When I got the guitar a couple of weeks ago it stayed in tune and played well. However, when I put new strings on today, I could not believe what happened. When I tightened the strings to A440 standard tuning, the tremelo bridge came up, as if I was pushing down on the tremelo bar. The tension on the strings as I tune the guitar to pitch makes the tremelo come up – quite noticeably. It also will not stay in tune – keeps going flat due to the bridge coming up. The more I tighten the strings to get it in tune, the higher the bridge comes up from the guitar.
HAS ANYONE SEEN THIS, AND, IF SO, COULD YOU PLEASE TELL ME WHAT TO DO?
Thanks,
Russell
