Hi guys
I’m for it too but I don’t know if I would spend a fortune to get a seat!
A few comments I got on another forum :
“For the most part, I think it’s about money more than it’s about music. I grew up in the era these guys come from, so I appreciate what they have done. But if they’re just playing the same 30 or 40-year-old tunes in the biggest arenas they can book, without bringing anything new to the table, it’s hard for me to look on this as anything but cashing in on their former glory.”
“Very few reunious really deliver the goods. I was never a Police fan and even less of a Genesis fan so I’ve not much at stake. There is a very distinct performance atmosphere with most reunions and 90% is just going through the motions. I’d rather see bands and people who’ve stayed in the game even without fame come back into the limelight and be appreciated. The best reunion/tour/DVD is in my opinion Fleetwood Mac’s The Dance. That was the real deal! All that said remember kids THERE IS NO SHELTER IN THE PAST! ”
“I also find it difficult to go to arena shows these days. It’s expensive, and I don’t need to shell out those $$$ to go see someone doing something old, from a thousand feet away. I’m more into seeing someone good in a smaller venue. I’d go see any of my old favourites in a 1,000 seat theatre, but after that….”
“Either way, it’s their right, and we don’t have to participate, but I wonder how many of us would be enthusiastic about a Nickle Creek show in 20 years…it might just kick as.
What about all those fans who ARE into the spectacle, the hype, the nostalgia? And what about those old and in the way musicians (I’m not too far from it) who just wanna rock, however unconvincingly? ”
“I’ve recently seen Allman Bros, Dickey Betts and Great Southern, Poco, Loggins & Messina, Crosby, Stills & Nash, New Riders of the Purple Sage, and I enjoyed all of them immensely. They were all very reasonably priced, and small to medium sized venues.
But I broke my “I’m Never Gonna Spend More Than $110 on a Concert” rule to see Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young last summer, and I thought it was worth it. There was a lot of new material in their set, with just enough of the old stuff, and they played for a pretty long time.
I love going to concerts. Most of the bands that I mentioned played new stuff, and have been playing all along. I thought these guys were good when they were in their 20’s, and now they have another 30 or more years of playing under their belts. How can they not be good? Some of the vocals are not what they used to be though.”
