Hi, They used metal grommets for each screw rather than the standard peanut-shaped neck plate. There are some of these now on auction on Ebay, along with a toggle switch tip and strap pins.: i have a ’67 celebrity 3 bass, wondering if anyone can tell me how the bass body and neck were originally connected. it has a 3 screw configuration, with inset holes in the body, the 2 top holes are approx. 1/2" deep and the bottom hole is inset approx. 3/4".wondering if ferrules were used in the body. any help with this connection, as far as size/length of screws would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance!!

This popular thread has been given its own page : Help me date my Mosrite Celebrity 3 12-string
Hi.
I am the proud owner of a red Mosrite Celebrity 3 12-string semi-acoustic guitar, s/n W0099. Been searching the web hoping to be able to determine it’s age, but no luck so far. Anyone out there who may be able to help me figure this out?
BTW: Flawless guitar, though the neck had to be reset and the neckjoint reinforced with 2 extra screws. Also had it refretted with higher frets. Sorry, everyone, but the micro-frets originally installed were to wimpy for a 12-string. Worked ok for strumming but melodies and riffs were buzzing all over, wich made it impossible to record with. On the other hand, the guitar is now touring with me from may through september, and pays it’s dues in the studio the rest of the year, so it’s still sharing it’s wounderful "jingle" instead of being a wallflower….
Hope someone can help me….

Hi Tim,
I recently bought a Mosrite celebrity III bass Serial No: Z0009 and it looks as if it once had a brige cover due to a couple of screw holes in the front. I emailed the previous owner who bought it 1968 and he confirmed that it did have a chrome bridge guard. Where can I find one?

This popular thread has been given its own page : Mosrite identification
Hey John.
I’d need pics to be certain, but it’s almost definately a Japanese copy from around the very late 60’s/early 70’s.
Like I said, I’d need some pics, but the desription (no of California) and the serial number point to it being Japanese.
It is most probably a copy of a Mosrite Combo from your description, which wasn’t made by Mosrite until 1965.
Please feel free to e-mail questions and pics to me at [email protected]
See ya , Tim.
Gentlemen:
I have come into a Original MOSRITE that I do not know what model or style it is, and I would like to find out. I do not know guitars at all, but know where and whom this guy came from. It is a very early one, a semi acustol, hollow body, with only one fret hole on the front, and a full scratch guard on the other side. It has the three piece neck, and front power plug. It has a ser. #E(I think, hard to make out)001001. The bottom string attachment is a silver plate that is embossed with the name MOSELEY. On the top of the neck, up by the tuners is the name MOSRITE, but there is no address, or other words like the later ones. It is painted I think you guys call it the sunburst pattern. There is a white strip around the entire body on the top and the bottom of the body, and up the sides of the neck. This guy is in rough shape, and needs to be restored, but I know it came from a family of a local muscian (HAWAII) who I think had it specially made in either ’59 or ’61 when he was in California. Please e-mail mewith any other questions you might have in hepling me understand this guitar, it age and model, and possible worth. Any help would be greatly appriciated. Mahalo (thanka) in advance for you replys:
JOHN
I don’t know much about and was wondering if you could tell me anything about it?
I have a Mosrite Ventures Bass single pickup with a serial number 3507. What is it? ThanksKGL255
I need to know when my Mosrite was made since it was FIRST electric guitar I ever owned, bought my parents, for my birthday. They were poor, HARD-WORKING Greek immigrants & affording a decent guitar was always hard for us as a child of 10 years old. She found this Mosrite hollow body advertised in the newspaper in a strange warehouse that sold everything you could imagine. My dream guitar was a Ventures solid body Mosrite model, but they were much to much for my family to afford at a guitar store in the early 60’s. When we got to this bizarre warehouse….I was very disappointed to see the guitar was not a solid body, nor a Venture’s model. The salesman on the telephone was very misleading & vague. Today, I have it hanging on one of my guitar walls….next to the many Gibson’s, Jackson’s Fender’s, & Taylor guitars I have recorded & toured with in my band JOSHUA on RCA Records. It clearly states on the identification tag inside the guitars f-hole…”Style-COMBO….serial# HO801….MOSRITE OF CALIFORNIA INC” along with its guarantee of workmanship from Bakersfield, California. It also gives the serial number on the bottom of the fretboard….HO801. I’ve been up all night paying bills, & also doing some research…when I noticed some articles on this legendary guitar company that has always meant so much to me. I gave thousands of guitar lessons on this hollow body to other kids throughout the 60’s and 70’s and finally want to know when this guitar was made, and why have I never seen one like it in my life. I never bought that solid body Mosrite…since I got into Gibson by the late 60’s thanks to my guitar lessons. I always ended up spending most of my guitar-lesson money on Marshall amplifiers, Gibson’s, & my MOPAR race car. The Mosrite always hung on a wall through the decades & was never played as I grew away from the hollow body, along with the thin frets, and uncomfortable over-sized hollow body that clashed with my very thin build. The Les Paul’s & SG’s were more my style & I began buying them with other model’s of solid-body Gibson’s. Still, “The Venture’s” literally taught me how to play guitar between their recorded albums & teaching LP that taught me to play all the guitar & bass parts for Raunchy / Memphis / Walk Don’t Run, & Tequila. I was into surf music till Cream, Jimi Hendrix, & Santana came along that changed my life forever. I have never talked about this story…so can someone please help me with identifying this Hollow Body Mosrite, maroon, single f-hole, small Mosely genuine vintage-1960’s Tremolo Whammy Bar that looks exactly like a Solid Body Venture’s model tremolo.
The guitar was purchased in ’64 for me as a graduation gift. I would like to know when/where it was made. It is an “ES335” style. Hollow body (2 F holes) and (2) pickups. Thank You….JD in AZ
I have a Celebrity, SN K0334. what can you tell me., when made etc. what are the best sstrings to use on it. I play mostly rhythm. thank you

This popular thread has been given its own page : Genuine Mosrites are still being made!!!

I own a 1966 Mosrite of California Gospel guitar in the sunburst finish, white pickguard with B1695 stamped in fretboard nearest guitar body. In the original case, I have owned it since early 1970 and its truly in pristine condition. I have never since buying the guitar, seen another like it except in a pic of Kurt Cobain….Do you know of anyone interested in owning what I assume to be a piece of Semie Moseley history? Any answer is appreciated. Steven Benton
Can anybody here can joint Loretta Moseley?. I put a YouTube video from Jonas Ridge 1988 factory who’s Semie show in part how he built his guitar and at the end just before the Semie 1991 Tokyo performance, I think Loretta featuring there?. I still have my 1966 Joe Maphis Mosrite prototype and she still playing good. Just watch my Ventures tribute video’s. Search for Brassardois on YouTube.

I would like Loretta to contact me into my E-Mail: [email protected]

Will the real "Real Moserite" please stand up? To my understanding and confusion, Semmies daughter Dana is also making Moserites (Fillmore Moserites?) at/for Ed Roman Guitars of Las Vegas. Which one is is "real"? Are they both? Who cares? Which ones are best is what I’d like to know. Any opinions? Also; who says only Americans can make good guitars?
Semie’s wife Loretta is also making mosrites. Semie built soul into his creations – not so sure with Mr. Roman who only sees $$$. I’d be concerned with quality and would have to compare each to my original side by side in order to comment who’s is better. Bottom line – who cares so long as both are afforded equal opportunity to manufacture guitars. A Mosrite by any other name is still a Mosrite (?)
isn’t it? Look for the low action fast neck with speed frets, zero first fret, and distinctive Mosrite sound.
Semies finishes looked miles deep. ain’t none better folks.
No they’re not you dumbshit, Semey Moseley died a couple years ago and they stopped making them, the only ones that are still being made are the Mosrite Ventures models….dumbass
Actualy Zack, you’re the dumbs#*t.
Maybe you should look into things more before you fly off the handle.
Ellie is absolutely correct in her statement. Loretta Moseley has been working on and off for years to make "genuine" USA made Mosrites and has produced VERY small numbers since Semie’s death (more than a couple of years ago).
As for your claim of the Ventures model being the only Mosrite still produced , I assume you mean the Japanese replicas of which there are many more models produced than just the Ventures model.
Maybe in future spend the effort used to abuse someone in reserch and you may become a better and more knowledgable person……dumbass

I own the gospel Encounters Mosrite serial no. 1 It was built for me and presented to me by Semmie mosely in August of 1981. I am enterested in estimating its value. I have photographs of Semmie playing the guitar and of him handing it to me. I also own a unique Semmie built guitar for Bud Ross (of Kustom Electronics). It is black and is shaped similar to a Fender Telecaster. It reads ROSS on the head rather than Mosrite. The history I have on the Ross guitar may not be entirely acurate.I would apreciate any information on this guitar that I can get.

Any ideas about the value ????
Has anyone ever seen Semie Moseley’s "Blue Gospel Guitar"? It is the only surviving instrument from a group of 10 that he started to build in the very early 60s.
http://www.NorthAmericanGuitars.com
Click on "Gallery" it’s there.
Semie made the “Blue Gospel” for his own use. He used it playing on various Gospel Music Tours, with such groups as “The Lester Family” from St. Louis, Missouri. This rare instrument is one of two that he made with violin joints. The other, a blonde, all natural, was given to Semie’s partner, Rev. Ray Boatright. It was smashed in Watts, in fromt of the church and the Reverand was killed. GA009 is the only surviving 1960s Gospel prototype.
This popular thread has been given its own page : Ventures Mosrite bass question
Serial No. 6060 is actually 1060, since the Ventures bass started out with serial No. 5000. I think that would make it a ’63 or a’64 at the latest.
I have serial No. 5036,( I bought it new in 1963) which is also a single pickup model. a few years ago, I took it to Bill Gruggett in Bakersfield, who was the master luthier at Mosrite, when the Ventures models were in production, and he commented that they did not make very many single pickup basses.
If you google "Bill Gruggett guitars", you will get his website, and I can assure you that there is no better authority than him to tell you anything you want to know about your bass.
I was wondering if anyone could tell me the year and approximate value of a Mosrite bass. I know the year is stamped on the back of the neck, but I don’t want to remove the neck. The serial number is 6060 and the bass is in fair condition. It has a lot of scratches, it’s missing the tone control and the bridge cover. It plays nice and sounds fine. The headstock is in very good condition. It is a Mosrite of California. The color is sunburst. It has one pickup next to the neck.
Any info would be great. Thanks!

What is the production year of a mosrite with V0150
and a california head piece?
I have a Mosrite Guitar that is a california style. I am in concern to find out what it is worth! I’d appreciate any information on the value.
All california style Mosrite guitars are worth the same as they are all the same model, same color, were made in the same year & are in the same condition.
HTH,

I understand that I possible have one of the 200 modles of mosrite guitars that were ever produced. Could you tell me what exactly to look for, where to look for it and whom I could possible take it to in order to see if it is indeed one of them? Thank you, ray
Hello – I’ve helped others now seeking help for myself – I lucked out today and scored a Mosrite at a garage sale, a dusty
beauty that is the real Mccoy. All I find on the web is B.S. people selling remakes and japan-cut firewood. this six string electric
is very very heavy, body shape is slightly Telecaster, 2 pickups the Neck P/U is angled. There are 4 knobs, 2 input jacks,
one slide switch and one two-wat toggle mounted along the scratchplate. Body is natural wood finished. Bolt-on neck. Weired shape
scatchplate. Neck is bound, fret indicators start as doubles from 3/5/7/9 and 12th is a triple, and remainder are single inlays.
Has zero fret, chromey Nut, rod cover on headstock, 3 per side individual tuners. Original decal all inplace, the large
round M logo and mosrite of california by semie moseley. No whammy/vibrato. from what I’ve read this may be a 1967, maybe a 70 –
but the TWO input jacks confuse me. Any help is most welcome, please! Leave me a email on [email protected]
You’ve seen me as madmaxguitar giving good prices on the ‘Bay auction. any help or leads for info is really appreciated.
I thank God I scored this Guitar and can’t believe my freaking luck! Now I got to find out if it works…
from Tym Guitars website: "Mosrite Stereo 350.
Solid mahogany or walnut body with rosewood fingerboard. Can be played through two amps at once. Slightly wider neck and heavier frets than early Mosrites. Available only with humbuckers."
they’re not worth as much as the ventures models, but are still pretty cool…
If you could send me a picture of it or a realistic drawing of it i might be able to help you out. Im a mosrite fan and cant find a decent mosrite besides a japanes shit strummer.
p.s. maybe we can discuss a price?

There is a site : Route 101. They will make a personlized electric……..
Whats the site? what does route 101 means?
it means that you are gay. ok?
I have an original mosrite, I bought it back in 1968. It’s in pretty good shape, and I was wondering what the market is for an original…..?
Hey, The best place to look at the moment is E-BAY. They come up quite often so you might see one the same as yours. The market has "dropped" a little than a couple of years ago when people were paying rediculous amounts for Mosrites (or guitars in general). I hope this helps. This popular thread has been given its own page : Re: Parts for my Mosrite guitar.
: You can find control knobs on eBay if you do a search there using "Mosrite". Every once in awhile they also have Fuzzrite’s too. Some parts are available thru Mosrite of California (Japan) too. Go to mosrite.com But look around parts are available from some of the original Mosrite crew from Bakersfield.
: Good luck!
