Awesome article. It’s true, having to perform (say in a band) also helps set up deadlines by which you have to learn songs to a performable level and you have to force yourself to learn the song no matter what. I progressed from a practicing person to a performing one as when I used to practice in my own room in my early days of playing, people would come around and just used to listen, then I was motivated to learn songs properly and the next time I got more confident at playing and then eventually I decided to take up being in a band, which progresses playing massively. If you keep performing the songs they get better and better with each performance, the key is to never give up.
AtulParticipantGear? I’ve got 15 on my moutain bike, wahey!
AtulParticipantHe he, yeah this post is getting vastly off topic. I figured out that signatures (and hence the plug) only work when you are signed on to the forum as a member. Anyways, it’s glad to finally interact with the makers of this magazine, I have been subsribed to gutiar weekly since 1998!
I’ve got some internal and examination to go through soon too! Just submitted my masterpiece of a book to the examiners. PhuD? Is the u intentional 🙄
AtulParticipantThanks 1bassleft, yeah the plug seems to have been removed, fair enough, it was always shameless anyway. Any chance of seeing “The Difference Engine” site?
And Geochemistry. That would be the mining school then I take it. I’m afraid there aren’t many girls in the Engineering field so we have to fish out in other waters so to speak 😉 Make sure your band values the bass, we sure do as we’ve been looking for a full time bassist for quite a while!
AtulParticipantAlright! I didnt realise that’s why they were bad, i.e the potting. I got my guitar in 1996 inspired by the Oasis era and all, so that would’ve been pretty early I suppose. Now I use a more a hard rock distortion for our band’s own stuff for which the Super distortion and Air are great as well. Thx for the info.
AtulParticipantPossibly the best article I’ve ever read. I will always keep it for reference when I hit the dark moments of what I think is failure. 😀
AtulParticipantI bought a Epiphone Les Paul guitar and intially hated the sound on it, not to mention the feedback at real high volumes (we had a really loud drummer and started off with Metallica covers!), so I got a mate to recommend the Di Marzio Super Distortion on the bridge pick up and Norton Air on the neck, I have never ever looked back since, the guitar sound is absolutely gorgeous! I think I will remain hooked on DiMarzio’s forever!
Peace

AtulParticipantVery true indeed and a nice article. Infact most of us are now musicians or involved in the music scene precisely because the music that we listened to made us feel great and inspired us so much that we decided to make our own music.
I always battle it amongst my bandmates past and present that at the end of a day a simple song which `touches’ people or has `soul’ will always be way more effective than a technical musical masterpiece with little emotive content. Music is all about emotion for me, I dont care if the musician used 3 chords or 30!
