Excellent points! Learning guitar, or any instrument, requires large blocks of time devoted to building strength and dexterity through exercises. However, I do believe that different people can pursue different means of achieving this. In other words there isn’t a “one size fits all” method for developing dexterity. I believe that all methods are acceptable as long as they don’t cause the guitarist to develop sloppy habits along the way. There are so many different postures and positions used by guitar greats to make their instruments sing. Find your own – if it works for you then you’re doing fine.
