There’s “Sunshine of Your Love” and “White Room” from Cream, and “Layla” from Derek and the Dominoes. Rush has quite a few stellar intros. “Money For Nothing” from Dire Straits. Queensryche’s “Empire”. Those are some of my favorites.
My all-time fave is a little-known song called “Changes” by a band called Glass Harp. I’ve seen it played in concert half a dozen times and it’s one I could recognize if I were totally deaf. The opening bass and drum rolls build the anticipation until it “snaps” with the snare–I love it! 😀

At any rate, I’ve heard others use the eBow on studio recordings, but Phil is the only one I’ve ever seen use it in concert, or on an acoustic guitar. Are these things rare, or do I just go to the wrong concerts?

Yellow Matter Custard – “While My Guitar Gently Weeps”
Neal Morse – vocals/guitar/keys
Mike Portnory – drums
Paul Gilbert – guitars
Matt Bissonette – bassJuly 21, 2006 at 2:52 am in reply to: Youtube: Must see videos + anything with Don Johnson singing #77097PKfanStephParticipantDe-lurking to share YouTube goodness…
very tight three piece power trio 1972 tv appearance. awesome Les Paul fretwork starting around 3min. Now if only the guy had a better source tape….
same band, same talent, same Les Paul…29 years later. better video quality, less hair 😉
awesome acoustic alternate tuning with two-handed tapping
And on a Chet Atkins note, Chet first introduced this guy to the Lexicon JamMan in the early 90’s saying “this thing was made for you”….
the master of the JamMan… (the fun starts at 2:20 should you choose to skip the 1rst verse… doesn’t stop for another 6 minutes. the bad video quality doesn’t do all the layers of this piece justice… the dvd is much better).
Thanks, Chet!
Laurence Juber – Strawberry Fields Forever, Muriel Anderson – Rumores de la Caleta, Phil keaggy – Shades of Green, Laurence Juber, Muriel Anderson & Phil Keaggy – Day Tripper all in the same video!
Now for the rediculous…
December 17, 2005 at 3:56 am in reply to: The answers to The Quiz !! all 72 band names revealed ! #65619PKfanStephParticipantFor some reason, the first thing that caught my attention was the crosswalk, but I was thinking more along the lines of the Beatles’ Abbey Road (or the band The Crossing), and the pistols made me think of their Revolver album (then the band Velvet Revolver). And until I realized it was a punpkin he was smashing, I figured it was a prog rock band named Glass Hammer. I suppose there’s a ton of different ways this photo could be seen, depending on how many band names you know, obscure or popular.
Very fun, though, thanks!

I’m thinkin’ 1, 2, 6, 8 and 9 are killers. But I’m nowhere near sure.

I have several friends who are working/touring musicians and soundmen, with anywhere from 5 to 35+ years on the road under their belt. It has never occurred to me to ask them about their worst experiences. Maybe I should!
