looks like a 60’s japanese import, possibly a Matsumoku guitar. these were really cheap back in he day for a few reasons, one was the build quality was not Fender/Gibson level, and hey used cheap tuners, etc.. Also, the bridge was often not placed right. Do not put a straight bridge on it – I suggest a tune-o-matic type, and make sure you get the intonation correct before you set the bridge with glue or whatever.

That guitar needs a lot of work – I hope you like doing projects, because the market value will be marginal unless you become a star, in which case it could be worth thou$and$…

    Have fun!

Identifying Kays is a bit hard. You didnt post a pic, which makes it REALLY hard, but unlike some manufacturers, Kay has a history that ended in 1968, then they were bought and production was outsourced to asia.

Identifying a budget guitar like vintage Kays is really hard. best of luck

I have a special policy that covers loss. I was using Heritage Ins and MusicPro – but they were too expensive. Now I use musicins.com (Travelers covers the policy) and it’s a better deal. You can insure $10,000 with low or no deductible for about $125 or so.

It covers your axe/amp/instrument when playing out, jamming, at home, for loss and damage at fair market value/cost of replacement.
