For years i ponderd this , it came down to humbucker or singles.
I also ponderd amps- fender or marshall and the advantages of having either a good clean sound or a better distorted sound.
I sinply love strats so my main guitar is an american ‘fat’ strat deluxe with humbucker in the bridge and two two hot rodded noisless singles,
so i can do the fender and gibson thing in one guitar, Its great if you love strats but still want to match the gibson ‘punch’. I’m a strat man at heart. As for the amp dilema i settled for Mesa boogie .
In other words i ‘sit on the fence’ if you like.
gazzlaMemberWe can’t forget johnny marr from the smiths -he shyed away from doing solos but that was his appeal.
mark knophlor is also a ledgend in a different context.
jerry garcia- now theres a gutarist. This is a corny one but i always thought Prince to be under-rated. 😉
gazzlaMemberRemember the nirvana song ‘in bloom’ – I know Kurt wasn’t much of a soloist but what was that? He seem’s to just repeat about 3 notes and bend them and its in a completley different Key to the actual song. No Doubt he just made a a sound and hoped for the best (because of the chord sequences nirvana songs are hard to solo over).
The thing that gets me though is although the solo itself is pathetic it actually works very well and has always stuck out in my head as being completley ‘out there’ .
Does anyone know , did kurt actually know waht he was doing there? – maybe i,m not giving him enough credit! -
