rewindsplineParticipant
there are heaps of great pickups around that will do the job for you
seymour duncan, di marzio etc
i use:
bridge bill lawrence XL500L
neck bill lawrence XL500Rchanging pickups is a great way to change your tone
rewindsplineParticipantpods are not effects in my opinion – they are amp/cab simulators which are good for the bedroom
i used the rack mount version in a studio and compared it back to back with various amps – it didn’t record as well as the amps
there is just no substitute for moving air…
for your application with church for effects i.e. delay, wah, chorus, tremolo, flange etc you can do well with a multi-effects unit like a digitech S200 or boss GT-8
rewindsplineParticipanti can see how that would propagate… 😀
rewindsplineParticipant
forget about the noise surpressor, try to play just with pedals remember the tone is in your fingers.
since when do pedals provide tone? they are effects that colour sound
“tone” is a product of everything from the strings through to the speakers and even the room you are playing in
different people playing through the same equipment will sound different because of their “style” or “feel”
rewindsplineParticipantnoise suppressor will cut off the lower vollume delays – can be useful though
rewindsplineParticipantyou need a decent power supply eg voodoo labs pedal power… i made my own however!
rewindsplineParticipanti’ve been using one for years no problems
make sure you keep your delay/reverb outside the noise cancelling loop
most of your pedal noise will go away if you use a decent power supply with isolated outputs eg voodoo lab pedal power
to prevent the pedals “sucking” your tone you need to buffer the guitar signal with a DI – plug your guitar into the DI and output from DI into pedals
unless you use your amps effects loop then it doesn’t matter
(also i wouldn’t use a multi-effect unit live :D)
rewindsplineParticipantahh so shoot me i like modern! 😀
rewindsplineParticipantwhere were Slash and Flea born? 😆
how about something more contemporary…

maton mastersound ms2000 deluxe, 2004 model
http://www.maton.com.au/electrics/ms2000dlxsd.aspbill lawrence xl500l and xl500r pickups
ernie ball 11-56 strings
play it through a custom pedalboard and 2002 dual rectifier w/ 2×12 mesa cab
http://www.geocities.com/regulator1too/pedalboard.html
also through mesa v-twin and behringer ultra-g di w/ cab simulation into desk
also double the live sound using the mesa slave out through di w/ cab simulator
highly recommend the behringer di w/ cab simulator
rewindsplineParticipanthere’s my main electric
rewindsplineParticipantyou have to make your own pedalboard, that’s the only cool way
rewindsplineParticipant
i have the line 6 spider II head and it has 8 ohms for left and 8 ohms for the right. i currently only have one cab which is 8 ohms stereo and 16 ohms mono. i plan on buying a second cab. when i plug in both i have to set the cabs to mono and i would like to have 8 ohms stereo and 8 ohms mono. is this possible?
you want to run 1 cabinet stereo and 1 cabinet mono, therefore you effectively have 3 cabinets requiring 3 cables, ie:
mono = 1 x 16ohm
stereo = 2 x 16ohm in parallel = 2 x 8ohmit won’t hurt the amp if you run 2x8ohm and 1x16ohm outputs
or just run two mono cabinets
rewindsplineParticipantmetallica used the jazz chorus heaps
i heard a rumour they use them live for their clean sound
rewindsplineParticipantno and no
they’re just magnets
if you leave them touching for a couple of YEARS (like 10) it might wreck them
