Breedlove Discovery Series

Breedlove Guitars introduce their new affordable entry-level guitar line, the 2014 Discovery Series.

Breedlove Discovery Series

These guitars feature the brand’s distinctive looks but at a lower price point, and with a neck profile that beginners will find easy to play.

The Discovery Series currently has four models available, featuring Dreadnought and Concert shapes that are also available with built-in preamp and piezo pickup. If you are looking for that distinctive Breedlove vibe, the Concert model will be a great pick. If you are going for traditional volume and punch, then you will probably take interest in the Dreadnought model.

First introduced in 1992, the Concert model continues to be the brand’s top selling guitar shape. The shape is said to be well balanced, compact and comfortable to play, ideal for fingerstyle players. The brand extrapolates, “it generates a wonderfully articulate range of tone with an ample low end that is never boomy, but always felt. The unique construction also allows the Concert to sing even at a full strum.”

Breedlove’s Dreadnought is slightly modified to add more nuance and richness to the classic dreadnought sound. The shape is slightly more rounded, which according to the brand, “produces beautifully full, punchy, and articulate tones. It also provides excellent projection and articulation, so it excels in any ensemble.”

Surprisingly, many of the features found in higher-end models are available in this series, including the radiused fretboard, slimmer neck profile, and pinless bridge. To ensure that beginners will get instruments that are conducive to playing, each guitar that comes out of the Discovery line is designed and quality checked at Breedlove’s USA facility in Bend, Oregon.

Of the above mentioned features, Breedlove’s Pinless Bridge is most interesting. This bridge removes the need for six drilled holes, which results in the sound evenly moving across the interior with minimal loss of energy. The bridge also features a milder string-break angle that helps reduce saddle strain. This makes string changes easier and reduces the chances of bridge pin breakage.

Other features of the guitar include laminate sapele back and sides, 25.5 scale length, nato neck, rosewood fretboard, black binding and chrome mini 18-1 tuners.

Breedlove Discovery Dreadnought and Concert guitars are priced at $299, while the cutaway with Fishman ISYS-T versions are priced at $399. Head over to Breedlove Music for more information.
