Drawing from the same TransAcoustic technology that the company has been using on their acoustic pianos, the company has successfully implemented the same reverb technology into their acoustic guitars.

Yamaha’s TransAcoustic lets you add both reverb and chorus to the natural sound of your acoustic guitar, and the effect is produced by the body of the guitar itself, instead of having to rely on external effects or amplification.

This is achieved by incorporating a mechanical actuator inside the guitar, which vibrates in unison with the strings. This vibration is then passed on to the body and to the air around the guitar, resulting in authentic sounding reverb and chorus effects. You can control the degree of the two effects with the dedicated reverb and chorus knobs that are embedded on the side of the guitar that is facing the player. And it’s not just a basic reverb effect because you can switch from room to hall by rotating the reverb knob clockwise.

It also has a lineout volume level control, in case you want to plug-in the guitar into a preamp/amplifier. This knob also doubles as a switch that activates the TransAcoustic reverb and chorus effect. All three knobs are designed to be discrete and small to minimize the holes in the body material.

There are currently only two guitars that come with the new TransAcoustic technology, both of which are handcrafted premium models – The Yamaha LL-TA (Dreadnought) and Yamaha LS-TA (Concert). The label TA is an abbreviation of TransAcoustic.

Common features of the two guitars include solid Engelmann spruce top that are artificially aged, rosewood back and sides, fie ply mahogany and rosewood neck, rounded fret edges, and both guitars come with an SRT piezo pickup.

Yamaha Marketing Manager for Guitars Dennis Webster concludes, “An SRT piezo pickup provides the guitar’s plugged-in tones. In addition, a redesigned battery box is integrated with the guitar’s endpin, reducing acoustic sound loss. Whether practicing, writing, recording or just playing for fun, the Yamaha TransAcoustic Guitar will make you play better, longer and with more creativity. Adding these effects to the natural sound of the instrument is far more enjoyable than in a dry-sounding room. Once you’ve experienced it, you’ll never want to play another acoustic guitar again.

The new Yamaha TransAcoustic Guitars are expected to ship later this year. Pricing information will soon be announced. For further details and the complete specifications, visit Yamaha.
