Gibson Memory Cable

Gibson and TASCAM team up to create Memory Cable, an instrument cable with built-in audio recording.

Gibson Memory Cable

Described as “inspiration insurance”, this cable will let you easily capture your creative musical ideas with up to 13 hours of recording time and CD-quality resolution.

Gibson and TASCAM were not satisfied by the many compact recorders available in the market, and thought of an even more convenient way to capture ideas. So they created a miniature preamp and recorder, and attached them discretely into an instrument cable!

With the Memory Cable, musicians will have less and less excuse for not putting out their best musical ideas. With the cable plugged in, capturing ideas is as simple as grabbing your cable and pressing a button.

Designing a discrete but powerful recorder is not a simple feat, thankfully TASCAM’s engineers were able to come up with one that can record over 13 continuous hours of your playing. And this extended recording hours is provided by the included 4GB microSD card, which you can replace for even more hours of recording.

This means that you don’t have to wait for great ideas to come in before recording to save space, you can simply press the record button right as you start fiddling and it will capture everything. There is also a recording mode that only automatically enables recording while you’re playing, which is even more convenient.

The built-in preamp and recorder writes the captured audio into uncompressed WAV format files, featuring 44.1kHz / 16-bit resolution. You can then load the CD quality recording into your preferred DAW or recording software for listening and for building your song ideas. The TASCAM designed solid-state recorder and preamp will last 8 hours on a single AA battery.

The official press release adds, “What’s best about the Memory Cable is that you’ll always have it at your fingertips—you need to use a cable anyway. You don’t have to grab a box, find another patch cable, hook it up, and navigate an operating system—plug in, turn on, done. The Memory Cable also works with keyboards, bass, electronic drums —even a mixer bus output to record a rehearsal session. And it’s ideal for re-amping…”

Finally, Memory Cable works like a regular cable, which you can use to connect your guitar to your pedals or straight to an amp. For even more convenience, the recording function will work even when the other end is not connected to an amp or pedal – so you basically record with just your guitar and a cable!

The new Gibson Memory Cable is expected to sell for around $99. Visit Gibson for more information.
