  1. Framus 12 string acoustic guitar
    D.Arthur

Does anyone have information on dating a Framus guitar either by serial number, etc.? I understand Framus discontinued manufacture of their acoustic guitars in 1950, but I really would like to pinpoint the year of this great sounding guitar. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

I have here , and old framus western, serial #52670, the tester appears to have been Miuller, and is a bavarian framus/Werke. It has the slenderest neck ,a stainless steel nut, and stainless steel string-guide. Recently, the heads took a crap, and I would like to know anything about the ole girl,{she has the sweetest slide sound imaginable}…including whether I can attain a set of heads for her…her rarety, and value,{though she will never be sold}.. and just anything at all that anyone might know about her.
    Thankyou all…

I have one as well. Serial# 36935. Model 5/1961.It needs an adjustable bridge.I have a regular bridge on it now, which works fine.Parts are hard to come by. You can find out more about the Framus company and your particular guitar by going to the Framus vintage website or the Framus museum website.

Ok.. this is what I know about Framus….
when Les Paul was designing the electric guitar…he visited the Framus factory in Germany… this is the reason all electric guitars fasten "neck-to-body".. not with the aide of a crutch , as pretty well all guitars{accoustic} are .. but through the body… Framus is trademark for this method. They produced a hand crafted quality guitar for many years till in the 70’s the electric guitar company "Fender" decided that the would buy the factory out of recievership, and close it down, eliminating some of the competition, for the line of accoustics that they came out with at the same time.Being that the company no longer exists, with the exception of the more recently opened "electric"guitar factory..{they make a line of electric products now….}… but the old guitars that was for years world renouned… is no more, and parts are VERY hard to come by, being that they are not made anymore.

I’m going to buy me a guitar and learn to play it. What are good/the best materials they are built from and what quality am I expecting for a starter’s acoustic?

": I’m going to buy me a guitar and learn to play it. What are good/the best materials they are built from and what quality am I expecting for a starter’s acoustic?"

I’ve been playing guitar for about 20 years as a hobbist. I’d suggest a dreadnaught style. Maybe Yamaha, Epiphone or Guild acoustic guitar. I’d stay away from Johnson. Rogue might be o.k. but I think you can get better at the same price.

The materials would be varieties of spruce for the top, rosewood for the fret board, and mahogany for the neck, sides and back. This is common to both my six strings (Epiphone PR350S and Yamaha FG-410) and 12 string (Yamaha DW-7-12). The neck, sides and back may be different wood than mahogany but generaly comparable.

Lastly, don’t buy a guitar you cannot hold and play. Even if you don’t know anything to play just holding the instrument will give you a feel for it. If you don’t feel comfortable holding the guitar you won’t feel comfortable playing it either.

      Happy hunting and best wishes.

  4. Framus banjo
    Mark Tishman

I have a Framus four string resonator banjo from 1965 or before. The instrument is in very good/top condition and features a lined gig bag and a felt hard case.
I want to establish what it is worth. Price information is not available in the Orion vintage book. Any ideas? Photo available. Prefer e-mail to [email protected] rather than return posting as I don’t get here often. Thanks.

    1. : Hello , I got this guitar the name on it is New York Pro
: I’m trying to find out who made it. Thanks

      ——
Hi. I think I may be able to help. I recently saw the coolest guitar ever at a pawn shop, and had to have it. It too said "New York Pro" on the top of the neck by the tuning pegs. It is an 6-string electric/acoustic guitar, with a rounded- plastic back. It can plug into an amp, and has volume, tone, bass, and treble switches on the side. It also takes a 9-volt (square) battery. The unique part about this guitar is that it doesn’t have one large sound-hole below the strings like most electric/acoustics, but instead has several smaller(max. 1-inch in diameter)holes scattered on the siedes of the strings. The little holes are decorated with very attractive wooden leaves. After I bought this guitar I too became very curious about it’s origins and makers. After weeks of researching, I finally found out who it is made by, what type of guitar it is, and lots more about it. It was difficult information to find, so I understand your problem. If this guitar sounds anything like yours, e-mail me and I will tell you all about it. [email protected]

: Framus six string Banjos were made in Germany in the late 1960’s > I think for about three years. Depending on the shape if you find the right buyer maybe at folk festivals you can get upwards of 1500.00. Not because they are a great piece of equipment but because of their rarity. They are great around a campfire.

        Rain in Winter

Framus went out of business in mid 70’s. It was a german co (Framus Werkes) founded in 46. They made every kind of musical instrument in every grade. The son of the original owner operates warwick (high end amps) and is now producing a new line of framus guitars (electrics).

I have a Framus "Texan" model that has been reconditioned by a guitar repairman in Brussels, Henry Nuytens. Some yaers ago his workshop still existed, and I am rather sure I still can find vintage guitar parts in Brussels, or get them fixed at Hill’s Music Store.

About the bridge piece of your Framus Texan, I’ll try to contact the Belgian repairman who sold me mine, his name is Henry Nuytens and he had a guitar repair shop in Brussels 10 years ago. He was also a good banjo maker. But I lost his track since 1996. I’ll let you know here if I find one.

Go to a library, and take out ‘Eyewitness Music’ and turn to page 58. In there is a stripped down Stratocaster, and a diagram of how the wiring go’s. It should help.

I `m searching for an electric guitar with a ”scratchy”sound, sounds like an old blues acoustic guitar too but with very pure and clear highnotes and arabian sonority. I like the fact that there are a lot of volume button. I know it seems complicated but maybe you know a guitar like that . thank you.
