I’ve acquired a NOS Dan neck that was never used. The neck was never even lacquered nor were the mounting holes drilled. The neck is in great shape. The problem is, for me, the neck has too thin of a profile. I know some people hate thin necks, some people hate fat necks, I’m looking for someone who is looking to trade a fat DA neck for a thin DA neck. I also have a "medium" thick – the only way I can describe it Dan neck – part of a whole guitar – Seerial # 1599. Thanks for your interest.

I’m desperately looking for a new DA CLEAR guitar. One of the re-issues. I’m in LA. Anyone have one ?
Hi,
Does anybody have an original wooden bridge part that they would consider selling for a 69 armstrong guitar? Or perhaps consider getting a copy of theirs made up by a pro for the right price, as mine has been replaced with a plastic one which isn’t really working out…
I’m also after original Rock Bass (RB) and Rock Treble (RT) pickups to complete my set if anyone would consider selling…
Many thanks,
Rich

I have a 1973 british style mahogany right hander and I need a new pickup and a 9th fret fingernail marker ( I cut one out of a dime but it’s too chrome looking compared to adonized aluminum and a vol knob would be nice the existing one is chipping
Do you have a bass pickup for an original Dan Armstrong bass?
I have a Mahagony D.A. London. I read on a website that by turning the tone knob up to max, the pickup acts as a single coil? Could anyone confirm this?
Cheers.
I have an old DA bass. It played great for many years. Now the pickup works off and on. When it does work it is very weak. I would appreciate any leads on a working pickup or ideas on repair. Thanks. Bill
Hey Bill…email me, and I’ll add you to the list of guys wanting a pickup for thier Dan bass. I am getting a non-working Dan bass pickup soon, and will autopsy it to find out how it works. Once that’s done, I’ll start popping them out.
cheers,
PF
I have a Ventura lucite copy. I need a pickguard, pickup & electronics & bridge.. I do not care if they are original or repo parts.I dont care if they are worn… This guitar just hangs on a wall with my other guitars. I just want to make it whole. Any leads apprechiated !!! Bill
Dude…you’re in luck! If you have the Ventura Lucite copy, you can use real Dan Armstrong parts. They’re all 100% totally interchangeable. You’ll NEVER find the original Ventura Lucite copy parts….NEVER.

Hey Bill…Pat Fenis here. If you’ll send me a pic of this guitar, I can see what version of copy it is, and figure out the dimensions I need to follow to make the parts for you. I have templates, so we’re halfway there.

No, however I own a 1970 DA bass that is in excellent condiction. It has been under my bed for the last 33 years. If you or anyone you know is interested in it please let me know. By the way it has the original strings on it.
I have a 69 DA bass that I’m a little confused on the wiring. There are two wires that connect to the two outside blades. A "bare" wire from each of these two wires are connected to the middle blade. I also have a red wire which is connected to the middle-blade wires but I’m not sure where that would get connected. My guess is someone added this later on for grounding maybe?
Can someone help me out as to if I need to get rid of this third wire or maybe email a pic what an original wiring should be?
I haven’t used this bass yet even though I’ve had it for some time and am looking to possible sell it or (depending on how it plays) use it for my gigs. Thanks in Advance.

I just heard yesterday the news that, sadly, Dan had passed away. My thoughts, belatedly, go out to all his family and friends at this sad time. He was a true pioneer in the music world where so many products are copies of one another. Dan’s guitars and basses broke new ground and were themselves copied and eventually re-issued. Testament indeed that his instruments are true classics. I was lucky back in 1970 when, at the age of 14, i saw Dan on a tour demonstrating his new amps and cabs along with drummer Pete York. He made a lasting impression. It was then that i wanted one of his basses, and luckily at the age of 47 this year i eventually managed to get hold of a fretless lucite bass-gorgeous. A long wait, but worth it. I have a couple of mahogany sliding pickup basses, but the lucite is my favourite. Thanks to Dan for everything he gave us all. Danny Armstrong.
Does anyone know if the pickup "holding" screw from an original Plexi bass will fit in the pickup of a re-issue model? Thanks for your help !!!
This popular thread has been given its own page : DAn Armstrong "Rock Monster" pickups?
: Has anyone ever heard of these? Were these Korean pickups with the Dan Armstrong name stamped on the covers? I recall this bridge humbucker in a late 80’s Westone super strat and man it was sweeter than the J90c in my Jackson at that time. I have been trying to find indfo on these pickups for over 20 years now. Any help would be appreciated.
these pickups were hand made. they are very similar to the bill lawrence L500 xL. they are ceramic twin blade with solid covers, think emg! they were put on westone villain series and alvarez villian series and dan armstrong signature series! and possibly the westone corsair. these pickups were made in very limited quantities and are extremely hard to find, if you have some, sell at a high price or hang on to them, for you are holding pickup&guitar history! those guitar models i mentioned? a lot of people do not relize what they are holding. yes the guitars were made in korea. but… these were some serious guitars. no joke! you were right about the jackson. jackson guitars are good but at that time very few guitars could touch quality that went in to the construction of the villian and dan armstrong sigs. when you compare the villian to any thing else, compare it to ibanez JS series (joe satriani) models.seriously!… thats how good these guitars were. ive been reserching musical instruments for 17 years specializing in guitars, and i’m a guitar player myself. i have discovered that my suspicions may even be more true, is that matsumoku luthiers made these guitars. everyone knows that matsumoku made westone, vantage and silvertone guitars. but what they don’t know is that when esp bought slm (sports limited manufacturing) hence esp limited! esp hired alot of the masters from matsu. they were sent to slm. whom previously made some kramer guitars
and the japanese kramers were being made by esp, just before esp took over slm they lauched the last of the westone line http://www.westone.info for more! they were intended for the uk market and distr. in the us by st. louis music.
the point being they just didn’t sell very well. so st. louis music stepped in and contacted alvarez guitar co. and they quickly switched the line to the alvarez namesake! they ran from 90 to 93 and ended in late 93! now there was one confirmed line of the alvarez and westone models of the villian which the bodies were made in korea but the rest of the guitar was from usa parts, such as… the neck was a modulus graphite neck made in palo alto ca. they came with kahler usa spyder tremolos, and last but not least hand made custom dan armstong rock monsters!!! yah!!!
hope this helped!

:Yes that helped only I just realized today some 5 years later there was a reply to a question I had long forgotten. IIRC the Westone I saw and played these on were a Spectrum GT around 1988/1989. For some reason I find the Matsomuko Westones around quite a bit more than the supposedly inferior Korean Westones, but these are the Westones I prefer mainly for the 80’s aesthetics like reversed headstocks, Kahler Spyders and the Dan Armstrong "Rock Monsters". If I ever find one I will be a happy camper.
Still looking…

I’ve got a set of rock monsters I was wondering if anybody had a diagram on how they’re supposed to be wired
So i should be happy i just spent 100 bucks out the door for this one all original today ? It was only missing the tremolo arm and the string locks at the nut. Slapped some string on it when i got home and it is a beast . Has some crazy tone pots though . I have pics i just dont know how to upload pics on this . But this has been the best info ive found on this thing .
Is there a bridge that will fit without routing the body? It seems a lot of people use Badass bridges in these basses, but I don’t know how much modification is necessary. Any suggestions?
Thanks
Is it possible to put a tune-o-matic bridge on these guitars?
My condolences to all who knew and cared for Dan…a brilliant man. Having met him several times over thity years, I always found him gracious and helpful. It has been well over a year since our last chance meeting at a rehearsal for my band…and Dan remembered me from our time together at Cerwin Vega in the mid 90s…I am saddened.

I actually own an original clear body Electra. It is identical to the Dan Armstrong model, right down to the pick-guard and headstock. The problem I have is my bridge and saddles are not the original set. They are in need of replacement. Where might I find the parts I am looking for? Also, has anyone ever heard of my particular clear body model (Electra)? Thanks.

Hi guys, please excuse my jumping in uninvited – I came across this site by accident.
While moving old workshop to new workshop, I found a box of NOS D/A pickups from the time of wooden guitar production in the UK. Some fitted for sliding rail, some with ears for 2 screws. About 15 assorted guitar and bass p/u’s and the original transformers.
Also I own one of the original prototype bodies from Dan’s UK guitar production – I believe this was the only one made with a 24 fret neck – possibly made for Dan by a guitar maker in Bristo, England. Obviously an experiment because the end of the neck doesn’t match the width of the body where they are glued together.
The body has had various pickups fitted over the years, but could probably be returned to its original setup with a scratchplate and a pickup rail, and some careful woodwork.
Are any of these of interest to collectors/repairers/historians. ?
I have little time for looking at the Net, so if you want to reply, please email [email protected]

If I supply the serial number, can someone please tell me when my MIJ reissue plexi bass was manufactured? Thanks !!!
Adrian – Mine DOES start with DA98. Thanks a million for your help & I hope I can return the favor someday.
If the serial number starts with DA98… it’s a 1998 model
I got 2 of them (guitar and matching bass) which were both from May 98.
I have my late son’s Dan Armstrong Lucite guitar. I can not locate a serial # anywhere on it. Were some of these made with no serial #? I believe he bought in 1969 or 70 before his death. How can I date this before putting it on Ebay? I have photos. Thank you.
Just look from normal playing position at the area under pickguard! There MUST be a serial number!
Is there any method of adjusting the action on MIJ Plexi Bass reissues? The action on mine is pretty high, & all I can figure to do is sand down the wooden bridge. Anyone know of a less drastic method? THANKS !!
Looking for one of the 12-pole "Sustained Treble" (ST) humbucking pickups that were available in the last year and a half of the original D.A./Ampeg production run.

Howdy yall
Just a F.Y.I on the black Butyrate(brand of plastic)bass that Dan made. There were only eight made and eight 6str guitars made. I’m the guy who posted the black #007 for sale a while back but withdrew because it caused a pretty big bidding war at that Ca. guitar show right after I posted it and took it to the show where I was sellin other stuff. Sorry to yank anybodys chain.I have had pro photo’s taken and it will be shown in V.G. magazine article with all seven pickups, unopened strings, case, booklets etc. With the help of Dan and others I hope to shed a light on whats what about these cool guitars. If anybody wants a jpeg let me know.
Cheers, bill
acrillic bass with origina case bride and pick guard has been modified
everything else original in very good cond
What’s your asking price (if you haven’t sold it yet)? What kind of bridge did you use? How’s the intonation? Are the tuners original?
You can email me or reply.
Thanks

Hello looking for a old or reissue neck for DA 6 strings. Used or new is cool since I need both. Please reply, thanks!
I go out of tune alot with my DA 6 string. Changed the tuners to Schallers and there is an improvement. But still goes out, any ideas?
Most likely your Bridge
Take it to a competent set up guy you can trust. The guy I use just dialed in my re-issue to where it’s actually playable. Sounds great through my Mesa.
My 1969 is still in the case minus strings. It’s next.
Are you the Kyle Toucher from Dr. Know?
Thanks for the reply. I’m down to try that. What exactly is "dialing"? Its definitely the bridge. I wish I could put a Tune o Matic on it. I’ll try your idea. Thanks!
Looking for 2 guitar knobs (volume/tone) for a DA clearbody 6 string. I’m sure the bass has the same ones. Vintage or reissue is fine, hell even clones are cool if they are good replicas! Please contact, thanks!
Hello yall
Hey all ya have to find is a Ampeg amp made from 69 to about 75 and they all share the split shaft that the Dan Armstrong guitars and basses used. See if the owner/dealer will sell or swap them for you.
Hope that helps.
Cheers, billy
I found knobs on a old Ampeg amp head. The same knobs except the back isn’t a full hole. Its like a half moon shape, I’m gonna modify it with some trickery to fit the guitar.
DOES THE DAN ARMSTRONG LUCITE FRETLESS BASS HAVE A ROSEWOOD OR EBONY FRETBOARD? WERE BOTH MADE? WERE THERE ANY MADE WITH WHITE FRET MARKERS/LINES, OF ABOUT 1/8", ALONG THE EDGE OF THE FRETBOARD, ADJACENT TO THE "E" STRING? I AM NOT SURE IF MINE HAS HAD A NEW FRETBOARD AT SOME TIME, AS IT IS EBONY WITH SIDE MARKS. MAYBE IT WAS ORIGINALLY FRETTED. (NO RELATION BY THE WAY).
I believe it was ebony with half-circle marks on the upper edge… at least, mine is like that
Not sure the value. The Guitar Center has one for $2500, but since their vintage stuff is always overpriced, I’ll sell it for half that. Excellent condition.
