DigiTech unveils the DOD Gunslinger pedal, featuring a newly-designed MOSFET circuit that allows for a wide range of distortion tones.

This pedal is part of Harman DigiTech’s continuing attempt to expand the DOD effects pedal line up, since it was brought back into active production in 2013.
The new DigiTech Gunslinger pedal is a versatile distortion pedal designed to handle both heavy riffs and fast solo runs. This was made possible by the pedal’s new MOSFET based design, a type of circuitry more commonly used on overdrive pedals.
The MOSFET circuit is designed to clip at a slow but steady rate when overdriven, mimicking the clipping behavior and harmonics of preamp tubes. Because of this amp-like clipping, the Gunslinger will react to the dynamics of your playing, cleaning up the distortion when you play softly and gets more aggressive depending on how much you attack the strings. This wide gain range is also complemented by pedal’s overdrive based sensitivity and string separation, and it does so without compromising distortion saturation.
DigiTech Marketing Manager Tom Cram said, “The Gunslinger’s MOSFET circuit delivers saturated tones and touch sensitivity normally associated with tubes. The pedal is ideal for adding a little more complexity to already overdriven tones, or on its own for thick, rich chord rhythm crunch and singing high-gain lead tones.”

As expected from a distortion pedal, it comes with Gain and Level control knobs. The Gunslinger’s Level controls the overall volume, while the Gain knob lets you adjust the amount of distortion. Raising the level control will turn the pedal into a booster for push tube amps over the edge, resulting in raw, high-powered overdrive sound and at the same time adding a volume boost to your guitar signal.
The gain knob goes from subtle overdrive to modern distortion, and it works with the pedal’s Low and High tone control knobs to help you shape and sculpt your overdriven or distorted tone.
Another interesting feature of the Gunslinger is the ability to choose between 9 and 18 volt operation. The 9 volt setting makes the pedal operate normally, while switching to 18 volts provide more headroom which results in what the company describes as “less compressed, tighter and more open tone”.
Finally, the DOD Gunslinger comes with true bypass footswitching and it comes packed inside a brushed-metal housing. The new DOD Gunslinger MOSFET Distortion is scheduled for a May 2015 release with a suggested retail price of just under $125. Visit DigiTech for further details.
