  1. Gretsch?!? Dobro knock-off
    Scott Bennett

I’e had for almost 20 years now a guitar that is a knock-off of a Dobro. I remembered it today, and tried to find information on it on other WWW sites, then I ran across this site and am hoping someone can help.

The guitar has the large resonator on the main body, with two F-holes up near the neck. There is no serial number inside that I can find. I started to remove the resonator to see if there was a serial number or anything else inside that I can’t see from the F-holes, but the inside of the resonator is both glued down and tacked down with two small brads.

The neck appears to be topped completely with Mother of Pearl inlay, with fret dot markers at the 5th, 7th, and 9th frets (these may be stickers, it’s hard to tell). The word, "Gretsch," appear in vertical print on the headstock, but it almost appears painted or branded on. The top of the headstock is cut in a lazy ‘S’ shape.

I know Gretsch did make this style guitar during the 30’s and 40’s, but I’e only found very limited information on it (don’t even know a model name or anything). This would be aboth the right time frame as my grandmother got it when she was in her 20’s.

The guitar is in pretty good shape, even the bindings. The fretboard is a bit scalloped, and that has forced the frets somewhat out of their inserts. THe tuning knobs all work.

If anyone has information on this guitar or can point me to a book or WWW site where I can get more information, I’d appreciate it.

    Thanks,
    Scott Bennett

  3. Gretsch - Model 7620

Recently acquired model 7620, serial # 105147. Solid body, yellow /butterscotch color, inlays, neck with longhorns, cactus, pistol, rifle arrow. Can you tell me what model and year? possible value. (mint with original case) Thanks.

According to my info, that should be a Country Rock model, made in October of 1975. However, the last three digits, 147, are supposed to indicate the number insequence of the guitar. i.e. this would be the 147th of this model made in 1975. I have this same model that is supposed to be the 160th, but it would have been built in May of 1975.
So, either my information in incorrect in respect to the last three digits, or they counted backward in 1975.
I have been told that this guitar could sell for as much as $6,000. My advice is that it is worth only what someone is willing to pay.
May I ask how much you were able to purchase your 7620?

  4. I’ve been saving up for a New Jet (6114) for a while and i want to know if they are any good. Are they, or should I keep saving and get a real Duo Jet?

      1. I’ve heard Roc Jets are no good. After going to the Gretsch Discussion Pages, I’ve discovered that the Elliot Easton signature Jet is the best Gretsch Jet. It has locking tuners, a better Bigsby, longer scale length, a graphite nut, and more body routing. I’m still trying to see if I want to spend the extra money for all these features though. If I don’t get the Elliot Easton, I’ll definitely get the New Jet thuough, because it has the bridge attached to the body, stock alnico pickups, and a great looking finish.

  5. Can anyone shed light on this Gretsch!
    Gretschplayer

I recently picked up a gretsch acoustic. Its specs are questionable when compared to bretsch company history but are:

Flat top guitar with deeper wood top
    rectangular "trapezoid" style inlays
A gretsch logo where the T covers all letters but the Capital G and H at the beginnning and the end.
No Serial # with paper on the inside missing or never inserted
A bridge pin setup utilising ball end strings
21 frets with inlays on 3,5,7,9,12,15,17
an even darker back with no visible grain seeminly near black in finish whereas the top has rich visible grain

Please tell me what you can, hopefully everything but every tidbit will help!
    Thanks again…

  6. 1976 Gretsch Broakaster Solid Body Natural
    Clayton Lopez

Cna somebody help me locate my Gretsch Broadkaster Solidbody Natural Finish. I worked at a Guitar Shop in the 70’s. I played locally (Key West, Florida). I foolishly lent a friend my Broadcaster (in around 77). A week later, he was gone and so was my guitar. It was not one of Gretsch’s more successfull models, but that isn’t what’s important to me. What is, is that I love that guitar. The neck pickup is actually a Country Gentleman Pickup. The rear pick was stock. Any leads? Please help. I last heard that the guy (Dwayne) was living in New Orleans. I don’t want to press charges, i just want the guitar. Help if you can? Thanks!

  9. 7601---6121 Gretsch 4-sale
    Packrat

Hi, I have had a gretsch solid body for years now but have never played it and know nothing about it. I am in hopes that you may be able to help me identify what it is called, the year and perhaps a value. The guitar is all original and has never even been refinished or touched in any manner, and is in very good condition other than it may be close to in need of a fret job. Inside the pick guard cavity I found the gretsch label glued to the wood with the following.
    : Model 7601
    : serial 6-6121
: I haven’t found any stamped in wood identifiers although under the lacquer where the neck bolts on this solid body, are hand written numbers that are the same as serial #. Tell me about it and make reasonable offer and it’s your’s. As stated, It’s in completely original and great shape, and is a favorite and about my easiest to play and best sounding of over 25 guitars of different makers I have, I just have too many.
: I would certainly appreciate anything you can tell me about this guitar. Thanks, Patrick L. Miller. Contact me at

  15. Gretsch 1978 Comittee
    Ian Victor

I have a 1978 Grestch Comitte. Originally i had no idea what it was, but I looked up the serial number. It has a double cutaway, humbucking pickups, clear pickguard, and the thing won’t stay in tune for the life of me! ive sent it into various shops that have claimed to fix it, but they have doen jack shit. What im wondering is….
#1. I paid about 415$ for this. Is it worth it to keep putting money into it to get it fixed?
#2. I know little about what makes guitars work. If i spend a hundred or so for a new bridge and tuning pegs, will this be the end of my troubles?
#3. Anyone willing to buy this sweet yet frustrating guitar?
