Gibson Les Paul Studio ’70s Tribute

The Gibson Les Paul Studio ’70s Tribute follows up on the ’50s and ’60s era Studio Tributes, this time featuring mini humbuckers.

Les Paul Studio '70s Tribute

This guitar is part of Gibson’s ode to the ’70s era that were dominated by rock music and iconic instruments which include the Les Paul.

The Les Paul Studio ’70s Tribute mimics the thin-to-thick neck profile of the 1970’s. It starts out slim at the lower frets which is measured at .800″, and gets chunkier as you slide toward the body, measured at .963″ at the 12th fret.

The same traditional tonewood combination is used, it has a mahogany body topped with solid carved maple. The back portion of this guitar is weight relieved for better resonance and to lessen the weight.

The neck of the Studio ’70s Tribute is made of maple and is topped with a chocolate-brown baked maple fretboard that feature classic trapezoid inlays. It has a volute behind the nut for added stability and resonance. It uses Gibson’s PLEK-cut Corian nut with a width of 1-11/16″. The headstock is equipped with vintage-style TonePros tuners with 16:1 tuning ratio.

This ’70s Tribute model features a pair of Dual Blade Alnico Mini Humbuckers, these pickups improve on the design of vintage mini humbuckers as seen in 1970’s Les Paul Deluxe guitars. These pickups have dual steel blades and an Alnico magnet to recreate the ’70s era vintage guitar voice with higher output. Controls are kept simple – independent volume and tone knobs with a 3-way pickup selector. The guitar is fitted with the typical Tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece combo.

The Les Paul Studio series are known as affordable alternatives to the Gibson Les Paul Standard, and to achieve this, only essential aesthetics are kept. The guitar does not have neck and body binding but it makes up for it with color matching pickup rings, pickguard and knobs. You can pick between four finish options which include Satin Vintage Sunburst, Satin Silver Burst, Satin Cherry and the perennial favorite – Gold Top finish with Dark Back.
