This pedal brings with it the same noiseless clean sustain of the original Philosopher’s Tone, and packs it all inside a micro-size pedal, with the goal of providing quality while saving on precious pedalboard real estate.

Because of the Philosopher’s Tone pedal’s popularity, Pigtronix have introduced a number of variations to the original design to meet the needs of today’s players. The latest to join this lineup is the Micro version, which incorporates the best features of the original inside a compact box with the following dimensions: 3.75” x 1.5” x 1.75”.

Just like the original, this new pedal has the clean sounding sustain of the original, utilizing parallel optical compression to achieve the same results but suing smaller circuits and components that will fit its compact profile.

The Philosopher’s Tone Micro has four knobs which allow for a variety of compression settings. The first two let you adjust volume and sustain, staple parameters that need to be adjusted in many other compression pedals. In addition to those two, the PT Micro pedal has a parallel blend knob that lets you mix in the original (un-effected) sound of your guitar with the compressed sound. By blending in the original and compressed sound, you get to further customize the tone to suit your needs and still end up with a natural sounding tone. Blend is also a great way to get back the lost pick attack which are normally lost when the compressor is activated.

The fourth control lets you adjust Treble, which allows for up to 6dB cut or boost at the 2lHz range. This can be used to beef up the resulting tone even more, or to emphasize/de-emphasize the upper frequencies.

Virtuoso and guitar expert Paul Gilbert (of Mr. Big fame) put the pedal to good use on the video below, and I think he did a great job. Check out the video below:

The new Pigtronix Philosopher’s Tone Micro pedal features True bypass switching circuitry so it lets you signal pass through transparently when the pedal is disengaged. It can run on a standard 9V battery for a limited time duration, or you can get the standard 9V external power adapter for longer use.

This new compression pedal is slated for release on August 1, we expect to see more details and its price tag soon. For further information, you can visit Pigtronix.
