BopsAlotParticipant
I’m leaning toward something new I can just purchase off the shelf. That way, I can probably get a local dealer to order one for me to test drive without having to search everywhere for a specific vintage. I tried the ‘little’ Marshall all-tube 112 (can’t remember the model name) and was very disappointed (not surprising as I was at the local evil corporate guitar superstore– Guitar Center). I guess I could even go with a solid state electronics combo if it sounded nice enough (maybe a high end Line6? Anyone know anything about these?) I am currently going for a kind of a heavy eighties thrash metal sound right now, rather than a warm vintage tone.
BopsAlotParticipantGod forgive me, but I want one of these Gibson ripoff ESP Explorers…

BopsAlotParticipantyeah, all that stuff, and if your finger is still itching put some lotion on it.
BopsAlotParticipantYes, true creativity surely comes from beyond our minds. Mine either won’t shut up for long enough or I am just not talented enough to harness what comes through when it does! Regardless, I am certain that as the number of enlightened people (guitarists especially) in the world increases, the better off we all will be. Peace. 😀

BopsAlotParticipant
Oh, the BIN price is particularly hilarious. “So if you want a 70s Strat without the high price tag” spunk £550 on a Columbus ❓ ❓ ❓
😆 😆
Um, I think someone has bolted that neck to a Mexican strat. No, wait, why would someone do that to a perfectly good Mexican strat? 😀
BopsAlotParticipantAlas, the vintage guitar market has been pretty much ruined. There are so many bad fakes out there you can only wonder how many really really good fakes there are. Probably more than we imagine. 😥
That new “Gibson” is a despicable thing to do to someone. That story sounds so contrived that I wouldn’t have touched it no matter what it looked like.
August 27, 2006 at 1:59 pm in reply to: Who collects 1960’s vintage Japanese guitars, as a hobby? #74808BopsAlotParticipantok, you found me out. That was merely a clever ruse to deflect attention from my secret obsession— vintage Japanese guitars. 😳 Foiled again. In all seriousness (ummmmm), while probably not quite vintage, one of my prize possessions is my first guitar ever, a black 1983 Japanese made Fender Squier Bullet. White pickguard, telecaster headstock, strat-ish body, it plays remarkalby smooth and solid for a cheapo. It seriously feels like a million bucks in your hands, but sounds like its made of tin and plywood. Somehow, lately these are becoming quite the collectors’ item. On eBay, they are now routinely selling for over 20 times the price I payed for mine in 1991. Two acquaintances were plotting to throw the guitar from a speeding vehicle and videotape the carnage. While I’m sure that would have been a monumental stunt for the ages, guaranteeing fame and fortune and maybe even an Acadamy Award for Best Documentary of 1991, I talked them out of it for 20 bucks. One week later I was playing clangy buzzing acoustical renditions of greats such as The Misfits “Some Kinda Hate” and Spinal Tap’s “Tonight I’m Gonna Rock You (Tonite)” and the rest is… well,….actually, I havn’t really improved much. 🙄
BopsAlotParticipantTo show I am capable of a totally sincere and serious response, I will honestly tell you that, in my experience, autographs rarely enhance the value of a cheap guitar (and almost always decrease the value of a nicer one.) The only exceptions are if the artist(s) is dead or you happen to run into someone who is not only a huge fan of the artist(s) in question, but is also unaware of the truth of my first sentence, and also happens to be under the influence of an intoxicating substance that clouds judgement and leads to impulsive behavior (behaviour for all you British blokes).
Luckily for you, eBay is full of people that meet the above description. If I were you, and you were determined to be rid of the instrument, I would start the bidding at 50 american dollars, have a reserve of $150, and see if anyone bites. 😉

Sadly, though, there is no one who collects vintage Japanese guitars from the 1960s. Anywhere. But especially not here. 😉

BopsAlotParticipantI think we would all pretty much agree that all guitars are exactly the same. I would seriously consider investing in a nice tennis raquet first to practice your guitar skills on. That way if guitar did not work out for you, you would still have a very useful tool to start a new hobby with. Good Luck!

How are you doing?I’m sure that you understand the word “blues” 😀
In fact i found this kind of thread on a u.s forum.Really crazy to listen to american people singing in chinese or hawaian => they just learned the lyrics “phonetically”.
Ever heard a drunk Irishman singing in gealic with no teeth and a strong Kilburn (London) accent? Asheerrn me gurrn dist misten shore, and arrrgh e stern mishsherrrt. De blood ran currd ernd bloody english town.
etc etc. ah diddly diddly diddly day.
😆 😆 😆
I have a couple Mexican pop songs by “Juanes” that I learned. I don’t know what the Spanish lyrics say, but they sure sound sappy. The guitar playing and especially the songwriting of this band is surprisingly good given that they are Mexican rockers. (any Mexican rockers present in this forum excluded, of course) 😉BopsAlotParticipantIMO, the most over-rated guitar hero ever is Eddie Van Halen. The man has about 10 licks in his bag and nearly repeats entire solos on different songs sometimes. 😆 I think the thing that bothers me is when someone who is very talented squanders it by not putting forth a real effort. Joe Satriani’s last couple albums are kinda like that too…
By the way, Mark Knopfler has a divine gift for melody, his solo stuff since Dire Straits is quite brilliant. He has a melodic groove that (at times) transcends the limits of what I thought a guitar could do. But I guess I can see how it could be seen as a little boring to some. Not that you were really flaming him bad, though. He did look ridiculous as a rock star with that headband… 😀
