Takamine - worth?

I have two Takamine guitars - from a recent death in the family and would like to know the value of them.

1) Takamine LTD-89 (Blonde) - I found out there were only 800 of this one made, what is it worth?

2) Takamine ST-20 (white) what is this one worth?
Thanks for your help.

Takamine EF - 349 Serial # 80071734

Hi folks, I really enjoyed readin all those great comments and stories about the EF - 349. That is one great guitar! I bought mine at Christmas time 1980, and I've played it at parties and gigs ever since. It is sweet and I would never sell that instrument. I paid approx. $650 with the hardshell case. It is the hard mahogamy finish all over and it shines nice. I also had to change my frets 3 years ago.

I'm gettin a little arthritis in my fingers now, but with the easy action on the neck I can still play a few tunes when I get the spirit!

Cheers,
G. W.

I've owned my tak ef349

I've owned my tak ef349 since the mid 80's and bought it as a '2nd' from Turramurra music in NSW, Australia. S/N 83101077. It has a minor varnish problem on the backboard - but not the ghosting that other guys mention. I can't remember what I the purchase price was.
Many years ago I had two different studio producers make me offers straight out for it, they loved it so much, and all my mates have always preferred playing it rather than their own. (I haven't been in a studio for years though)

It has even survived a roll in a ute (pickup truck for you guys overseas). It was in the back and got flung around badly, but thankfully I also had a great case for it and she pulled though unscathed (and played it later that night).

It still plays beautifully and to me is nearly priceless. I occasionally try something in a store to compare...and they just don't compare well at all. Even for $2000US I reckon I'd still say No, if offered: what else could possibly come close to it?

Cheers for the thread.

Takamine EF-349, ser. # 82120133

I've been playing this guitar for 7 yrs at my church, love it, can you tell me what year it is? And it's worth, exc. cond. ? Paid 225 at a pawn shop. Thank you. jim

Takamine EF349C

I just bought a 1997 Takamine 349C on craigs list for $150. It has a wonderful quality of sound to it. I don't think I would even think about selling this guitar for less than $600-800. Actually, I don't think I would even consider selling it. It is such a beautiful sounding guitar!

takamine ef349 value

My first was purchased from a player named Charlie Wright in Hico, Texas urged on by Larry Joe Taylor in 1988 for $400. It became "lil darlin" used in stage shows and studio recordings by Jackie Moore while I was learning how to play bass. Then in 2004 it was STOLEN out of my apartment in Arlington, Texas. Alerting the nearest pawn shop with a photo, I began the search for a replacement. Imagine my surprise upon returning to that same shop and on the rack was...another tak ef349 which I snagged up for $250. She became known as "spooky". ps if anyone knows where Charlie is, Gary P Nunn has some royalties due him.

For sale

Hey just wanted to know if anyone would be interested in my 1988 takamine. It's in pretty good shape. Bought it about 12 years ago used. Don't really want to part with it but could use the money at this point.

how much are you expecting

how much are you expecting for it thanks yan

Takamine EF349C

I recently bought a Tak EF349C , it is in excellent shape and sounds great.
My question is how many years was this model produced ? I put new strings on and cleaned it up .
I don't think I will ever part with it. I traded a Sigma and $200.00 and I defineately traded up.
What is the true value of this beauty?

Takamine EF349C

I wish I knew the answer to your question. Mine is a 1997 EF349C. I don't think they were in production long because I have been all over the web and haven't found anything on the cutaway. All I know is I won't sell this guitar, but I wouldn't hesitate to put the price around $600-800. I think as it ages the price will go up. If you have a different year of the EF349C at least we'll know it was produced for at least a couple of years. Good to know there's another EF349C guitar lover out there!!!

EF-349

I bought mine in 1981 at Strings &Things in Memphis.
As others have said, it has a very unique sound that every engineer loves.
I have kept it in mint condition, and wouldn't take anything for it

Not priceless...but close

Yeah, i bought mine for $250.00, 15 years ago. I've never owned anything that even comes close to the sound and feel of it. It's got dings and wear that makes it a well used instrument. I still play it every week.

Takamine EF-349

I purchased this Takamine EF-349 Serial #84031162 back in 1984 from Floyd's Music in Kailua Oahu. Has been through numerous gigs from backyard to stage performances. Served it's time and still performing great, but needs fret work. Can anyone tell me what year this was made?.

Dating the EF 349

That serial number dates it to March of 1984.

I went on this site, and input your serial number and got the following info:
Date Your Takamine

The guitar was manufactured Sunday, March 11th, 1984. It was the 62nd guitar made that day.

EF-349

I bought my EF-349 in '83. I think I paid about 250.00 for it. (I remember I couldn't afford a hardshell case.) Didn't know what I was doing, but it has served me well for almost 30 yrs and sounds better than most other guitars I've played. It has seen some "hard" use; been played in clubs & garages. I'm finally replacing the frets (with stainless) and having a metal support added inside because it has "bowed." (I've always used the heaviest strings I could find & had often played it like a percussion instrument.) I'm going to be nicer to it in it's old age.

I have had my EF-349 for 7 or 8 years now i own 4 other guitars and have bought and sold god knows how many others but I love my tak

Re: Value of Takamine EF-349 guitar

I bought mine from a fellow musician in 97. $250. Best money I ever spent. And like many of you, I have been offered many times more than what i paid. I'm happy I have never been in a situation where I had to sell it. I would miss it till i die. Best guitar I've ever had. I think it's a 79 or 80.

Re: Value of Takamine EF-349 guitar

I bought this guitar 4 yrs ago for $125.00 with a case. looked on ebay 2 days later and found 2. both sold for $1000-1100. I was very Happy. Great sounding guitar.

Re: Value of Takamine EF-349 guitar

Wow, again, so cool to see a thread about this guitar. I bought this thing in GC in Chicago for $650 12 years ago (in '97) and it's been my only acoustic since - been with me through countless shows and recordings. It's always gotten lots of compliments from engineers, producers and players. Definitely something magical about this thing and I don't think I'll ever replace it.

Wow! this may be one of the oldest posted threads to exist, lol.
I just purchased my first real guitar from a local pawn shop- Tak EF349 for $400. I was happy to hear that this was a good price and that everyone is happy with it. I'm sure it will be my first that I will always remember.

May as well keep this one going! Went into Tom's Music in Victorville, CA in 1989 and played every acoustic they had. Bought the EF349 for $750 and still have it. Love to sit out on the back deck in Georgia and play the blues. My neighbors end up wandering over and bring beer! Gotta love that!

Re: Value of Takamine EF-349 guitar

I traded an old microphone and $50.00 for mine; it's a true "beater" in that it's covered with dings and scratches. Also some fool drilled two holes in the top back along the edge (I have no idea why), so I acquired it with a restoration project in mind. Stripping the finish is going to be tricky because of the bindings and inlays, but the real problem will be refinishing with a clear lacquer (nothing else will do because of the beauty of the wood), and making the hole repairs invisible.

Re: Value of Takamine EF-349 guitar

I bought my EF-349 new in 1981 at the state fair in Indianapolis, In. There was a large building with several things going on inside, and there was a local music store (going out of buisness)I didnt know too much about guitars but wanted an acustic/electric. the fret board is pretty worn (grooves) on the first 4 frets, someone said I played the hell out of it, and they were right. The grooves dont effect the sound though, still sounds great, and I would never sell it either. Thanks for the memories.vs

Re: Value of Takamine EF-349 guitar

Nice to see folks talking about this guitar again, we're few and far between...got mine around '92 or '93 (newer model with revised headstock), has the most incredibly warm sound...I paid ~$800 for it new then, wouldn't part with it for twice as much...

Re: Value of Takamine EF-349 guitar

92' in great shape with hardcase. Luthier friend said sound and action is superb. Paid $350.00. I have a 73" Guild d-25 bought new in 73' and actually like the Tak better. 2 different guitars but for me love the tak deeper, richer sound.

Re: Value of Takamine EF-349 guitar

It is great to see something about this wonderful guitar. I purchased mine in 1982 for $550.00, still have the reciept. I, like so many others will not ever part with it. It was interesting to see someone mention the "ghostly" image on the finish, as mine has the same.

I have one as well. What about this ghostly image???

Re: Value of Takamine EF-349 guitar

Well guys, here it is in Septeber, 2007 and I find your original question. I purchased my EF-349 in 1997 for $300. It is the best stage acoustic that I have ever owned. After I got this little jewel, I left my Martin in it's case at home. I move around quite a bit and, occasionally, get a little work done on the electonics. Every guitar tech who has ever touched it wants to buy it. I have been searching the "net" for quite a while now, trying to find another one, with no luck. That is how I found your posting. I suppose we all have to define for ourselves what we consider the value of this fine instrument. I will never sell it, so I guess the value, for me at least, is very high.

Also, if you haven't heard Paul Fogerty's cd (he plays an EF 349), I encourage you to lock on the site and give it a listen. He is an amazingly talented composer/musician, and represents our friends (down-under) extremely well.

Best wishes to you, and all who have discovered the secret of the EF-349. Let's keep it to ourselves so that we can find and purchase any that comes available.

Ralph Wilson

Re: Value of Takamine EF-349 guitar

I have a Takamine EF-349 that I am looking to sell. My band is trying to get a tour van since we cant afford one, I have to part with this fine instrument.

I believe it's a 1984 model. Serial #86010566. It has all original electronics with an added on Sabine AX-2000 tuner.

Email me if you're interested.

Re: Value of Takamine EF-349 guitar

takamine has made some incredible guitars! i have a f385 12 string and honestly think the sound and playability are weak. I have since bought a 1977 ef341 acoustic electric. a nice guitar paid 200, offered 350 the same day at a local guitar company. yesterday i purchased a ef 349, nice sound but i need more time to evaluate it. hope this helps. karl at whitehorse10@excite.com

Re: Value of Takamine EF-349 guitar

Hi Darrell

I bought my Takamine EF-349 in Brisbane in 1986. I got it for about $600 brand new but the store was closing down and had all their Takamines reduced by about 20-25%. The recommended retail price for it was about $790 at the time. I've never ever ever seen another one in any guitar shops anywhere and never seen another one being played by any other musos either. I understand Paul Kelly has one, though. I have seen the twelve string version a couple of years ago in Sydney retailing at about $1800. Mine has been an absolute gem. I used it to record my debut CD last year and come September this year it will be heard across the nation on an ABC music compilation. I've used about a dozen recording studios since I've had it and every single engineer has said my Takamine EF-349 has the absolute sweetest direct line sound they've ever recorded. So that says something. It has a wonderful light tone both amplified and acoustically. 12 guage strings work best for me. I would never sell mine and I've had a lot of offers as well. I reckon second hand they would have to be worth about $600 to the uninitiated. But if you have one, that will never be a question for you. Sell your grandmother first.

Regards

Paul Fogarty

I love my takamine EF-349, and would like to know a little more about the history on the lawsuit?

And about value and performance, mine has a funny ghosty image, which seems to be moisture built up under the finish. It's kind of ethereal looking, but I wonder if it is a problem? Anyone know???

Hi Everyone ...from Canada. The shadowy image is indeed moisture trapped at the original time of finish application. Any good paint store has stuff to paint on and it lifts out that moisture. Very easy and no harm to the finish. Good luck....Jeff

Re: Value of Takamine EF-349 guitar

I bought mine for $150, although, I seriously doubt that the pawn shop had a clue how sweet of a guitar he had. But, that was 14 years ago. I'm also curious of the value, but will never sell mine. People have tried to buy it before. Since I wasn't inerested, it never came to money, although a few guitars have been offered as trades(a decent taylor was among them, almost did that one).

Re: Value of Takamine EF-349 guitar

I bought one in 1981 or 1982 for somewhere around $300.00(my first new guitar). The young guy at the store suggested that it was every bit as good as a Martin. The guy seemed honest (I didn't know any better) so I bought this beauty. I've kept it in great condition over the years and love this baby. I'd never part with mine either. I recenlty swapped out the old plastic bridge pins for water buffalo pins. Man this thing sounds ever sweeter now than ever before.

Re: Value of Takamine EF-349 guitar

:I brougt mine in 1988/89 in Perth Western Australia snd paid a $1000. The takamine was worth $1200 and the trader gave me $200 tradein on a beat up old Washburn. The guitar is absolute incredible. Many people play them in Aust. Paul Kelly, Mark Seymour (Hunters and Collector) and many others that I have noticed since owning my Takie. Please reply is you find this interesting
