The world will only see 75 pieces of this limited edition guitar, and will only be available from selected Gibson dealerships.

The original J-200 was introduced in 1937 by Ray Whitley, initially called the Super Jumbo due to its big size. Being the top-of-the-line flat top guitar model from Gibson, it was considered by many as the “King of the Flat-Tops”.

And it was only a matter of time until this king met with “The King of Rock and Roll”, Elvis Presley got his hands on a J-200 and turned it into one of the most familiar acoustic guitar model in history. Other notable artists that used the J-200 include Johnny Cash, Buddy Holly, Pete Townshend, Bob Dylan and the Edge. The early J-200 models that were made from rosewood are very rare and are currently sought after by collectors.

The Gibson J-200 M Trophy 75th Anniversary combines the iconic look and rounded lines of the original J-200 with the smaller dimensions of Gibson J-16. These exclusive guitars are handcrafted by acclaimed luthiers of Gibson’s acoustic facility in Bozeman Montana. It will utilize premium tonewoods and showcase appointments.

Following the status of Gibson’s Five Star offerings, this guitar is handmade using traditional tonewoods. The top is made from premium solid Sitka spruce while the back and sides are crafted from solid quilted maple that are hand selected to have a three-dimensional texture. The top features Gibson’s X-bracing and has the eye candies for the big boys – a multi-ply binding and double-ring rosette with abalone inlay. The assembled body is then hand-sprayed with Antique Natural or Vintage Sunburst nitrocellulose finish.

The neck is made from a two-piece maple construction based on the original J-200 design, shaped in a “D” profile. It has a rosewood fingerboard with abalone crown inlays. It has a scale length of 24.7″.

Other deluxe appointments on the J-200 M Trophy 75th Anniversary include traditional engraved J-200 tortoise pickguard, an engraved 75th Anniversary truss-rod cover, and a traditional rosewood Moustache bridge with two abalone bar inlays. To further enhance its looks and vintage appeal, the headstock is equipped with gold-plated 14:1 Gotoh tuners and features an abalone inlay Gibson logo.
