I have a wonderful hand-made McIntosh 1958 60watt tube mono-block. It is massive and very heavy, uses KT88 finals and 12AX7a predrivers. I also have an Altec Lansing 12AX7 (uses 2) preamp, with a solidstate power supply. I am considering marrying the two together in a low boy enclosure, with perhaps two Celestion 12"ers. Actual measurements from the amp far exceed mfgr. specs and the punch is unbelievable from this amp. Both power and audio output transformers alone are the size of a loaf of bread, no lie! Do you think this project would blow the vinyl off of many other factory amps, just shy of something like a Marshall? Could be an awesome creation!
I own a ’63 Strat, with original parts, and markings, only the body was repainted by the dumb boob that owned it (and he hated the instrument) prior to me and so the factory sunburst finish is long gone. Presently it’s an extremely close shade of the blue from that era. Neck and body internals are still orig. finish with dates and technician’s sig. Pickguard is quite used looking but still the original greenish hued white guard. Vintage reissue knobs could be in order since this "boob" even painted the originals. Anyways, he hated the Strat so much he let it go for $100 in favor for a new Gibson L6S. It’s in the original hardshel case but that’s trashed to the point it’s not roadworthy. Frets are in good shape for its age. Two music shops offered me $150 and $300 respectively. I know they are jilting me! I understand the value loss from the repainting and was informed that regardless how it’s painted at this point, any further finish restoration is insignificant in raising its value. Any thoughts to its fair value? Those vintage pick-ups sure are silky smooth sounding, especially through the Fender Bandmaster pre-CBS amp/cabinet setup, of which this "boob" (me!) sold quite awhile back and regret it today!
1st, I’d verify that the finish is not correct. If indeed is not correct, then smile! you can have it repainted in whatever nitrocell. color you want without depreciating it anymore than it already is! How many people have a 63′ strat in there favorite color? I wish I was in your shoe for that guitar. I had a 63 refined antique white all the way up the neck like a les paul. true it cut its value down , but if I could find that guitar today I would pay top dollar to get her back.

Dear Kurt.
I’m afraid you are being ripped off. Even if your Strat was a refin with no original electronics it is still worth a good 1500.00. If you can send me a picture and I can give you a good estimation from my local vintage dealer.

hello Mr.
Any one give me the valve listing, especially the sequence they are fitted, for a 70’s Twin Reverb with master volume. Valve equivalents would be useful e.g. as far as I am aware a 12AT7 = ECC81. What is the equivalent of an ECC83?

This popular thread has been given its own page : How much is my 1957 Fender Telecaster worth?
it’s probably worth very very little in terms of resale value. One of the reasons why people like an aged guitar is because of the checking of the finish and the wear and tear the causes the body to change in tone over the years. Since it was defiled with a repaint, its not going to make much on ebay, so I would just keep it and consider yourself lucky to have a living piece of Fender History that will sound like a million bucks
Hi there if you look on E-bay guitars like this are going for close to 10,000$ believe it or not, maybe less because it has been painted, if you try wet-sanding the re-paint, you may be able to restore the original finish and get 7-10K for it. Don’t let anyone tellyou its worth less
: I recently found my dad’s 1957 Fender Telecaster and its original case. The guitar has been repainted but other than that it is completely original. Does anyone know how much it could possibly be worth? It is in decent condition but needs to be tuned and restrung. If you could just e-mail me if you know anything I would really appreciate it. I have a 1957 tele that once belonged to blues guitarist Roy Buchanan. It would take $25,000 to get mine.
I also have a 57 all original with perfectly worn fretboard. Plays amazing! Patina is out of this world. If you still have Roy’s guitar, send me a note. I may just take it off your hands. $24K? [email protected]

The first reply you got “it’s probably it’s probably worth very very little in terms of resale value.” is a posting from a complete DOPE and clearly someone who knows NOTHING about vintage guitars!! Some people just show their stupidity just by typing nonsense.
Thousands of vintage guitars of all brands have been everything from “repainted” with a spray can to a professional refinishing, including ones done BY Fender! While the quality of the refinished surface has an effect on the value of the instrument, it is HARDLY “… probably worth very very little in terms of resale value.”!! Some original only collectors may turn away, but MANY collectors and especially PLAYERS will find an original vintage piece that only have been “repainted” still quite valuable as a high quality player or vintage piece still representative of it’s era.
Have it appraised at a knowledgeable certified auction house (DON’T SELL IT TO THEM!) or with a respected collector in your area. Especially don’t listen to buffoons like the first replier!
If you want to sell it, do it by auction, negotiate the percentage the “house” gets, or wait till our stinking Obama economy recovers and sell it on eBay with an acceptable “reserve price”. Use someone with a good “feedback” rating if you have none yourself.
Good luck!
One tuning peg popped off at a jazz fest.. can’t find the piece, so need to replace the whole thing, would rather do the work myself, but don’t know where to get the parts… Any Help? Please!
I had my 65 Strat stolen from my truck in the Riverside, CA area a few months ago. Sunburst, ex. 100% stock original condition, no refrets or nothing. Original rectangular hsc/orange felt interior. Name Swaim painted in blue on case. Neck date 1/65. If you are from the area and have a friend who suddenly showed up with a vintage sunburst strat please let me know. I have the serial numbers.

it could be worth any where from 600.00 to 2500.00 depending on how it sounds it sounds here like the body is in mint condition which would automatically put it in the 800-1200.oo dollar limit if the insides are in as good of condition as the out side then its worth any where up to 2500

Pat and John …The Fender company will send the Owners manual and Schematics for a fee of I think like 10 dollars.
I did this way back in the pass for a Pro Reverb…but it took weeks to get but, I got it. And John …check that little switch in the back for pedal and rack use. Some times these get shorted out, they are cheaply made and can cause hum and a slight lost of power.
You can have it by passed or put in a new one…..Max V
I can’t find them posted either. you can get them from fender for 5 bucks. http://www.fender.com/support/manuals/manuals.php

Fender Stage 160 Amp–good to team with a Telecaster for a twangy sound? Are these good amps?
Hi,
I saw a concert picture of a Fender Shenandoah 6 strings,
I knew about the 12 string, but not the 6!
I’m looking for a good picture of this Shenandoah 6 strings.
I saw also a Fender acoustic with the neck as a statocaster
this picture it’s from the ’70’s.
Please send me the pictures on my
email.

I have a California Series Strat too, to plays really well… but the value of the guitar is not in $$$ but in its quality. Fender used all USA vintage style parts (bridge, neck shape, etc.) to create essentially an American made 50s or 60s strat reissue that plays like nothing else in its price range. I paid $410 for one, but im sure you could sell a mint one for $400-600. It retailed for $799.99, but most stores (as with every other product) sold it for lower. This guitar was made ’97-’98.

Hi there! I have one of each in sunburst. Both are fine instruments and I love to play them.
I am interested in more information about these guitars and I also have some for you maybe.
Best wishes Göran from Stockholm, Sweden.

I have a Fender Esprit Elite (1984 I think) and could do with a photograph or drawing showing how the jack socket shouyld be mounted. I suspect that mine has been tampered with along the way as it is sitting on a star washer at the moment which surely cannot be original.

My ’84 esprit is a fantastic guitar but I think the tone may be a little more dull than either it was intended or perhaps I would like. Do you know what the original capacitors value should be? At the moment the electrics on my Squier Esprit are better than the Fender.
I’ve got a 94 Robben Ford signature model. If I can help with any info any of you still need, I’d be happy to. I’d be interested to know how the Squier measures up to the Fender – might be a good standby?

i recently purchased a Fender Twin Reverb from the 70’s. i have no knowledge of how a tube amp works or how to care for it. i am also a little confused on the exact procedure of turning it on and off. do you turn the standby switch on first and then wait for 30 seconds and then the turn the on switch on? and when turning it off what exactly is the proper way to do it? and if someone could explain how the tubes work i would greatly appreciate it. thank you very much.
spacefreak5
You have a classic type amp there! Turn on the main power switch first then the standby switch about 30 seconds later. This will allow the output tubes filaments to warm up the tube. Then when you turn on the the stanby switch, the tubes plate gets hit with the high voltage. (about 460 volts DC so be careful back there) The stanby switch is important. Its not good for the tube to be hit with high voltage from a cold start. (the filament voltage is only 6 volts).. good luck,. joe

I bought a new one in 88, from a Fort Worth dealer. Due to presure from a girl’s persistance, I then learned a little more about it; writing Fender. Their response was basic info: Mexican made, roughly 1200 (or so) made in 85-86. Mine was silver (which faded to a greenish color) the bridge pickup was replaced with an EMG active. The guitar got stolen in 1996, if you see mine, let me know!

I haven’t seen your guitar but these were never made in Mexico. The Squiers were made in Korea and the regular ones were made only in Japan. I’m looking to buy one so if anyone knows of one somewhere please contact me and fill me in by e-mail, thanks Robt.
Not sure where some of you get your information. My Squier Katana says made in Japan right on the headstock! Not Korea. The Fender and Squier Katanas were only made in 1985 and 1986. Both were made only in Japan. The Squier version is going for about $450 US at this time (2009). Lot’s of luck finding a Fender one. Collectors seem to have them and are not selling them.
I havn’t come across one either. I have had mine for about four years and still love it. Good choice in guitars..

Just picked up a telecaster in pieces!!! All apart in a box, cut wires, missing parts etc. Could use some help with re-wiring. A diagram would be a big help. Am able mechanically to do the work, just not familiar with the workings of an electric guitar.

Hi there!
I don’t know if I can help out any…
There are 2 types from what I understand – one made in the US and the other in Japan (you can tell by the serial number).
It was manufactured around 1978. I recall my father mentioning that he got it at a steal from a co-worker for $150 CDN. I’ve seen some posts where people have bought it for double, even triple that (now I don’t know if what currency was used). As for its monestary value, I doubt that it’s depreciated. Typically acoustic instruments don’t.
For me though, its intrinsic value is much higher than what people may offer. It holds a lot of memories, and it was the first guitar I started mucking about on. I like it. Would it be a good guitar? Well, if you measure it against a Gibson or Ovation, then no, not really. But for something to learn or play on, it’s decent.
: : : Can anyone tell me anything about a Fender F-15? When were they made? What were their characteristics? Is it supposed to be an average guitar? A good guitar? A great guitar? What did they sell for? What are they worth?
Crap…
I didn’t realize that I had a couple of errors…
The one most obvious is monestary vs monetary. I meant the latter. My bad.

HEY BOYS!!! haha I have been trying to find info on the net about my F-15 too!!! my grandfather bought it from some old guy in Nova Scotia Canada, he lived and still does live in New Brunswick Canada. He said he paid about 200-300$ Canadian for it at the time…it must have been fairly new, and had been electrified with a humbucker mounted on the outside of the guitar! just like a real electric. That makes this guitar truly a one-of-a-kind! I am very pleased to have finally met up with people about this great guitar! Please E mail me with stories, info, resale value, history etc. on this guitar! send me pics if you have them as well please!!! thanks guys! good luck searching the web!

Recently I have been looking at lot many new guitars and in the Sam Ash catalog I found a Fender Sunset Blvd Strat. This is the first time I have ever seen or heard of it so I don’t know very much about it and any information you could give me would be very much appreciated.
I was just at Sam Ash a few hours ago and I happened to see the Fender Custom Sunset Blvd Strat. I was buying a bass and while someone was getting the guitar for me I picked up the Strat and started playing. I liked it so much I am saving up money to buy one. The sound is great and it feels really natural for me. Hope this information helped.

I’m interested on info about the Bullet. Can’t find anything, anywhere. It does say USA on it, so I assume it’s made here. Anyone know where I can find out about it?
Bullets were entry level, student type guitars early eightees, only made for a cpule of years. Designed to be budget minded solid body guitars. These were made with various cut out desings A mint cond. would be worth maybe $400
I bought a dirty, unfunctional Fender bullet in a pawn shop today for $60 U.S. I cleaned the input jack and got lucky- it works! Just finished cleaning it off good. It needs a new nut, one new tuner, one new bridge saddle bolt and spring and strings. It seems to have a nice tone, but i won’t know how good it is till I get the parts and set it up. Seems promising. Any offers on it?
woa youre shootin low.first of all this thing is made in asia(fenders are made in mexico squiers are made in asia).first of all this thing is NOT a very good guitar.they buzz and the stings break ALL THE TIME.if youre lookin for a cheapie id go for the squier affinity strat.much better quality guitar.
You’re wrong on that one. There are two versions of the fender bullet. One is one which is made currently. This is trash. Don’t buy them, they’re horrific. The other is a guitar which existed in the early eighties. These were much higher end. They were made by both fender and by squier. The design is very different with these. They have smaller bodies than normal strats and they have cable jacks directly on the pickguard (no special jack holes). These guitar are beginning to be recognized as quality instruments.

Hi,
I have a bullet made in 1981,the first of the bullets, you can tell by looking at the head, if it says "made in usa" and has a serial # starting with numbers, its a genuine usa made bullet. If you have one of those, congratulations! It was made with old stock Fender parts; the neck is a 1966, 67, Telecaster and the mics are part tele (upper) and strat (lower).
I bought mine new in 1981 and i love that guitar!
Please keep in touch if you want to talk about fenders, i love those axes!
Cheers,
Mike

Hi i have just aquired a fender bullet,it came with original case & paperwork,i think it’s a 1981 it was made at the fullerton factory california, it is in great condition but alas someone as pulled off the star bullet transfer & just left the fender logo & serial number E107266 & made in usa on it,is it worth anything?
Thanks Tony.
I bought a 1981 Fender bullet just for the neck. About a year ago I purchaced a 2004 fender tele body, coplete with all hardware, cheap off of ebay, and needed to find a neck. Everywhere I looked I was discovering that the bullet neck is the ideal telecastor neck, as I could not find one for under $400.00 US for just the neck…it was crazy. Then I came across a bullet with a good neck, with some nice flames in the wood grain, except the owner had butchered the body (think really bad green and beige camo-spray paint…probably tremclad, gross). So I was able to purchace the entire guitar for cheap, and I slapped the neck on my 2004 tele…frig, its beautiful!!! Such a nice neck!!
I guess the moral of the story is…You could get a pretty penny for just your bullet neck if you wanted…AND if you know anyone who wants a bad camo paint job bullet body w/hardware…let me know….OR just the hardware…its all in working condition…minus the neck of course 😉
rock on, etc etc…

If you can send me some pics of this slattered ax i might have a use for it. Also shoot me a price u may be trying to get for it.

I have a bullet neck on a telecaster body, but it just doesn’t feel right. The neck is straight, but the heel of the neck seems to sit low in the pocket of the body.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

As far as I know all f model guitars were japanese made. F models were produced late 70s early 80s. In excellent condition they are worth $250 to $300 (cdn) tops.
The older ones were adjusted at the top of the head stock, the early 80s adjusted at the base of the neck.
