The ESP Guitar Company (Electric Sound Products), located in North Hollywood, California, is a prominent manufacturer of electric guitars and basses.

The company was created by Hisatake Shibuya in 1975 as a chain of music retail stores in Japan. In 1983, ESP started making replacement parts and started making hand-made custom guitars in 1985. In 1986, ESP opened an office in New York City to make custom guitars for American players. In 1996, ESP started a new brand, the LTD. The LTD guitars are similar to ESP guitars and more affordable. According to ESP, LTDs are made on an assembly line in Korea from cheaper materials than ESPs, which are handcrafted in Japan. They still provide the optional custom service which made them in the first place.

ESP found fame by providing guitars for guitarists who went on to become leading exponents of thrash metal music in the 1980s, most famously to Metallica. As a result of these endorsements, ESP has gone on to become one of the largest suppliers of guitars for use in heavy music.

    I’m selling a brand new ESP KH-2 Relic. This one has never been played because I have two of them. I can show you a picture if you like. It is number 007 (James Bond) out of 100, and it still has all the plastic on it. It is an exact reproduction of Kirks main stage guitar. Every detail was considered, including the wear and tear resulting from years of extensive touring. The production of this guitar was in 2001, and was limited to only 100 instruments worldwide. This means they will never be reproduced again. It is definitely a collectors item. It includes a certificate of authenticity signed by Kirk Hammett (himself), warranty card, and all the parts. It features a neckthru body design, skull and bones inlays, original floyd rose tremolo system, and a set of EMG-81 pickups. It also includes an ESP hardshell case.       That was the Mirage. They weren’t a production instrument, or I would have had one for sure. Neck through, carved top tele, with a Jackson headstock. I’ve tried and tried, but can’t find a used one anywhere.

        Although i’m not sure what model it’s called but I can say they were a production instrument as I have seen some around, for example I have seen a picture of James Hetfield (Metallica)with one. They often show up on the second hand market so keep your eyes open.

        It’s basically identical to a ‘1988 USA Jackson Telecaster’ with an archtop, her is how to make one, take a fender telecaster, stand it upright, facing it, and streatch the body by 5% wider, and you get the rather cool tele shape, then make sure it has an archtop, paint it white, get an old origional 80’s Jackson mapel neck with rosewood fingerboard, with black banding. Floyd Rose origional bridge and locking head, Seymour Duncan Alnic II pro pickups (if you want to sound like slash) and Shalor machine heads.

    I was over at http://www.espguitars.com and noticed that they are coming out with Explorers that have Diamond-Plating on them… they look pretty cool, and much less expensive than the JH-2’s that you see floating around… I am thinking about picking one up myself!

      the esp exp that your seeing has a newer shape not the old style(its more pointed and retarded lookung) plus the diamond plate is a differnet design asnd only covers the front(its a inlay)not the whole guitar..

      It does have a diff inlay but other than that its the same.

        what is a tremsetter? if the kh2 you have has a floyd rose and the skull and crossbones inlays and the 2 emg81’s, and is in good condition, then i am very interested. please email me

      Yes, There is one black M-251 at Sam Ash in Tampa, Florida. I actually bought it and brought it home but later returned it and swapped it out for the LTD KH-502. Not that the M-251 was bad…it was awesome with the binded neck and headstock and all…But the gave me the KH-502 with hardshell case for the same price!!! The M-251 is still there at this time. Better hurry, it rox!!!

    I own a 400 series stratocaster in cream pink with a bolt-on maple neck, low-profile rolling Schecter locking vibrato system and a white pick-guard. This guitar plays very well and sounds good. Low fret action with good fret-wire.
    There is minimal body marking for a twenty year old guitar. It weighs about as much as my Fender strat and my Custom Dreams strat.

      i have an ESP JH-1 which is the ESP flying V with the red flames in near mint condition and an ESP JH-3 which is the ESP Les Paul with hetfields drawings on them in dead mint. the ESP JH-3 still has the plastic on the back of the guitar and truss rod cover and has never been played. i have both warranty cards and both come with signed certificate by james himself. both come with signature hardshell cases in mint condition that has JAYMZ written on both. only 200 of the jh-1 were made in 97 and 100 of the jh-3 in 99. i have plenty of pics of both if interested. i am asking $2200 for the jh-3 and $2000 for the jh-1. if you want both, i can let them go for $4000 together. email me if interested at

    I bought a KH-4 (black w/ pearlized pick guard) for $1300. It like new and still has the certificate of authenticity. I know the guitar is worth more than what I paid, but I am just wondering how much.

    Does anyone have an idea how much a KH-4 signed by Kirk Hammett is worth. The guitar is a neck-thru made in USA (i believe) and it is also discontinued from ESP. If you have any information please post a reply.

      I have a creamy pink 400 series by ESP. It is a great strat copy with a bolt-on neck.
      The body is in very good+ condition with a white pick-guard and a maple neck with the usual played appearance in a few positions along the neck. The neck itself is v-shaped.
      This guitar has a low-profile rolling Schecter locking vibrato system. The serial number is 03220 I believe.
