This new amps carry upgraded COSM amp models and digital effects, they also feature convenient iOS connectivity.

With the success of the original Cube series, its only logical for Roland to take their portable amp product line seriously. They decided that the amps need more tonal flexibility and portability, features that are now found on the new Cube GX series.

These new combo amplifiers retain the elements that made the Cube very popular, while adding essential features and improvements. Like the original, the Cube GX series come in a tank tough cabinet that is compact and easy to carry around. The amps also retain Roland’s COSM amp modeling and switchable channels, only this time there are even more amp models and effects to choose from.

The amps come with three separate channels, first of which is the JC Clean which carries Roland’s popular chorus tone. The Lead channel gives you access to the many COSM amp simulations that covers everything from warm drive to high-gain. Finally, the Solo channel is where you store the sounds that you have set-up using the various amp models, effects and equalizer.

The amp has three effects sections that include five stompbox-type effects and two types of reverb/delay. These effects may not be as many when compared to other, but they cover all the conventional effects needed for practicing, gigging and even recording.

What sets apart the Cube GX series is the i-Cube Link, which lets you connect the amp directly to your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch. This turns the amp into an audio interface that lets you to play along with your favorite tracks and record your performance straight to your iOS device. Other essential features are also present including a tuner, a line-out for outboard speakers and a headphones jack that also works as a recording output.

The Micro Cube GX is the smallest and most portable of the bunch. and comes with the ability to be battery powered. The Cube-20GX is the ideal practice amp, pairing a 20-Watt amp with an 8-inch custom-designed speaker. The Cube-40GX is a bit bigger and louder, able to handle small venue gigs with its 40-watt amp and 10-inch speaker configuration. Finally, the Cube-80GX is the big brother of the bunch, a combo with an 80-watt amplifier and 12-inch speaker. Note that the 20GX has six amp models, while the 40GX and 80GX have ten.
