I dont think there is a best. I mean I saw Zack Wylde, The original Guns N, roses Van Halen and they were all extremely good. Zack Wylde in BLS was the fastest, Van halen was the most power, But Slash had mood and melody. I definetly liked slash more, but Zack Wylde was better. But Eddie Van Halen was right up their too.
There is one major piece in your puzzle of greatness that you need to discover. His name is Rusty Cooley. He has by far the most technical skill(speed) and technique and he is hardly heard of. Im not some idiot and I have heard all of the people mentioned so please look him up.

Rusty Cooley has been one of the around ten guitarists doing sweeps and the like in the nineties and only after 3 years of playing he could smoke malmsteen, have better technique and sound than Clapton, and he has improved drasticly even since then.
in terms of technical skill paul gilberts extremely fast audibly clear licks are untouchable. there is no best guitarist in the world but in terms of skill people like jason becker, satriani, petrucci alexi lehai bla bla bla are all really good but after listening to some racer x i have to say paul gilbert is pretty damn skilled

I second SRV as being the best guitarist I have ever heard/ seen video of. Pick up live at the El Mocambo, and you will see a show, the likes of which no comparison can be drawn.
I think the fact that Eric Clapton would lay down his guitar to listen to Steevie Ray Vaughan play while they were jamming says a lot about how amazing he really was.
The story was that SRV and clapton met up in NYC late one night after a show for a jam session. Clapton was having trouble with his guitar, so SRV traded guitars with him, and started going to town.. Clapton was so amazed, he just stopped playing, and layed down SRV’s guitar.

I second SRV as being the best guitarist I have ever heard/ seen video of. Pick up live at the El Mocambo, and you will see a show, the likes of which no comparison can be drawn.
I think the fact that Eric Clapton would lay down his guitar to listen to Steevie Ray Vaughan play while they were jamming says a lot about how amazing he really was.
The story was that SRV and clapton met up in NYC late one night after a show for a jam session. Clapton was having trouble with his guitar, so SRV traded guitars with him, and started going to town.. Clapton was so amazed, he just stopped playing, and layed down SRV’s guitar.

While Yngwie is great and i enjoy his music he doesn’t expirement enough with tone and as a result many of his songs soune too similar. I also think that his music Went downhill for his first album.

I think there is many fantastic guitarists out there, some people may not have heard of…but i think the battle has got to be between Jimmy Page and Jimmy hendricks, different styles so it is hard to pick a better player

My favorite band is Led Zeppelin but I do’t think Jimmy Page is the best guitarest in the world realy I think that the best solo guitarest is Jimi Hendrix, but I think Iric Clapton is the best because he is one of the soloest but he is also a really backup guitarest so I think I have to go with Iric Clapton but that is one of the closest comparisons in the world
