TimParticipant
Hello, your link doesn’t appear to be working 🙁
Westbury were generally made by the Matsumoku Factory in Japan, some very nice instruments too. I have a Westbury Track IV bass myself. As for the ‘Les Paul’ I guess they’re just referring to the shape…It won’t be a Gibson, if that’s what you’re wondering lol.
Pics would be great.
TimParticipantMan, I’ve wanted that Electro-Harmonix Bass Micro Synthesizer for ages, big money though 🙁
All I’ve ever used gigging is the Boss LMB-3 Limiter Enhancer, basically in the role of a compressor.
TimParticipantHey,
The Guitar dater Project also says ’95 I’m afraid: http://www.guitardaterproject.org/epiphone.aspx Production number 0072.
TimParticipantSounds like a good night all in all! How was the crowd? Looks like you’re up on a stage at least with some strong lighting…I always found that easier. Pub (bar) gigs were the hardest; when you can see the white’s of their eyes…lol.
“… my Johnny Rotten/Jello Biafra “vocal stylings”” You got my interest piqued, any recordings?
Oh, one last thing…and I apologise as I’m clearly ignorant of either a US institution or a Christian institution but what is the ‘USO Circuit’?
Peace,
Tim.
TimParticipantDon’t generally pay much attention to the acoustic section, other than me mod-ly duties, but this had me intrigued lol! Epic job mate!
Intrigued by the Union Jack, where abouts were you? Hope I didn’t miss the opportunity to, as 1bassleft used to say, ‘pump the flesh’ (always assumed he meant shake hands!)
TimParticipantHey Brian, welcome!
TimParticipantWould love to see pics…after trawling about there’s a very tentative link…
I’ve not seen Triumph guitars myself, may be wrong obviously, however, the guitarist in the band ‘Triumph’ played a Dean Flying-V at times…
http://www.deanguitars.com/1rikfotos/images/rik3_jpg.jpg
But his signature model had the Dean logo:

…so I may be way off the mark?!
TimParticipantFor me, it defeats the point entirely, 2k for a replica f’d up guitar?!
Kurt bought it because it was cheap…it was cheap because it was cr*p. My SG is more ‘Grunge’ if you want to label it…it’s on it’s third owner and they’ve all made their mark on it (mainly with knives but poly-filler also came into play)
You can’t buy wear and tear and the original was nothing to write home about anyway. 🙄
TimParticipantYeah…just checked some stuff out, looks good! PC platform support is a bonus too (for me anyway…) Just need the bass version 😀 But at least it may help with my extremely slow 6-string progress…
TimParticipantHey, thanks for the review, hopefully it’ll help other’s searching for this topic. Always good to read informed, objective opinions.
TimParticipantWell, you know I love your tutorials but great choice of song too! Good stuff man…as ever. 😉
TimParticipantOi! 1bl, come back!…2 pet-subjects in 1! 😀

Is there anything on that neckplate? I can’t quite decide from the picture.
TimParticipantHey,
Nice looking bass, not taken the ‘fretless-leap’ yet myself.
Forum is on the quiet side atm, 1bassleft would love this being resident CMI and bass geek but he’s been a bit AFK.
Anyway, the picture posting thing should be fine soon, but for now:

TimParticipantHey Scott,
That backplate is probably the vital clue, shouts Matsumoku to me. That being the case the ‘1’ at the start of your serial number probably (notoriously dodgy serial numbers but your’s is fairly safe as it can’t be 1910 or 2010!) means it was made in 1981
Google the Matsumoku factory, specifically Japanese guitars, for more info but be prepared for a lot of trawling about: I play an Aria Pro II and I’m a fan of the Matsumoku Factory (Aria, Aria Pro II, Westone, Washburn, Epiphone…) but it’s a bit of a mine-field!
I’ve not subscribed to this site so I can’t vouch for it one way or the other but just for info check: http://www.matsumoku.org/models/models.html
TimParticipantHey Sandford, welcome to the board.
What type of amps are you thinking of building eventually? We’ve had quite a few valve fans on the board, most notably (the sadly absent atm) 1bassleft…devout valve-sniffer if ever there was one and Dave Hall of DHA
Strangely, I do want to meet an avid SS fan though…for contrast if nothing else!
Good luck with your studies, keep us informed!
Tim.
