Thanks, I thought it was right but I’m not much of an acousticky person most of the time, the scale lengh is the same as my SG so that bit was ok.
    Thanks,

    Tim.

While you’re all on the subject, I recently replaced the straddle on an old arch top acoustic (the original was missing) I didn’t attach it at all just relied on the strings to hold it on, is this right? I couldn’t see any marks where the original had been attached.

    Thanks,

    Tim.

I know this is a ancient thread but I was wondering how you’ve found the Ashdown over time as I’m currently looking at one.

I want something that can stay punchy no matter how low or (if the madness grips me) high I take it. Probably be playing a B sting, any 5-stingers use an Ashdown? I know a lot of this depends on the cabs but I can only afford 1 at a time and the head will probably come first.

Any comments on the built-in sub-octaver on some Ashdown heads?

    Thanks,
    Tim.

Let me get this straight he loves the cardboard bass with the interesting pickup layout, wants an inflatable guitar but thinks the Pearl kit is Ok but not as good as his (a ‘really awsome’ biscuit tin maybe?!)?

Do we have Pro Bassists here?! I like my LMB3 Limiter/enhancer…no more worrying about technique and dynamics just posing and not falling off stage.

I don’t know if my fingers (or memory) could cope with 5 strings…even my guitar is now a 4 string!

Never quite got cricket…I was on both (league and union) Rugby teams at school, but I never really got that either, it consisted ‘of grab this big slippery egg thing, run as fast as hook until you taste soil then people will stand on you…in pointy shoes. I was quite highly revered for this and ‘represented my school in both disiplines’ for 5 years…which may explain something.

I was hit by a cricket ball once…that was enough, I opted to play hockey with the girls from then on, which was nice.

I know this thread has been dead for ages but I thought I’d randomly post as this was my entry point into the ‘Guitarsite Forum world’ don’t know why the heck I was searching for 2 stringed basses on Google, guess the ‘spirits’ must have got to me…

    Tim.

p.s. That is a kick-ass bass, I’ve always wanted a 4-string that I could set up as BEAD instead of EADG, I fail to see the point of the G-string (on a bass!) bring on the B.

    Great for the money.
I’ve also moved the front strap button to the front of the horn (yeah, straight through the top) and moved the back strap button up to the shoulder of the curve, my strap is half leather, half hiking bootlace and both ends are held on with strap-locks, the result being a comfortable, adaptable playing position. Also I no longer drop it on the floor mid set, which I believe improves my performance no end (others may disagree)

Having just played I can confirm I also do this (Mute with both hands) I knew I muted with my fretting hand when playing with a pick but I hadn’t actually realised I was doing it fingerstyle to, like the man says it’s finding what flows best with your style of music and playing…and the shape of your fingers (seriously!)

I’m only a lowly bassist but when I play fingerstyle I mute the previous string with other fingers on my picking hand, I assume, if you play classical you’re picking with your fingers? This is why I play bass…people who can do this well scared me off learning guitar!

I think practise is probably the key, if you’re worried about unwanted harmonics after only a month playing you’ll probably go far.

Is this right? I find classical guitar a bit of a Dark Art.

To be honest I listen to the pistols once in a…well month probably, which isn’t a lot for me. but they influenced people like Duff McKagen who, and I’ll probably get flamed for this, knows when to play and when not to play he inputs as much as the song requires, much as Redding did, bearing in mind the fact Noel Redding was the only thing between Jimi and the drums I think Duff discovered the place for Bass when we have 2 Guitars a piano and any other **** Axl threw at him.

Once again I’m off the Thread and posting to ‘bass’, sorry, I’ll try and be good from now on.

p.s. My biggest ever gig was 4th on the bill to Marillion…but we didn’t actually hang around for their set, which I think excuses us slightly!

The best thing is to do this on stage at a gig, all the tech guys in the audience flinch, then you can avoid them after the gig, although you find you have to avoid them as they all come up and say: “You should always turn off your…’
But yes when you’re cranked up it certainly sounds unhealthy for your, or the venues, speakers.
